kirtijthorat··on Windows Phone is outselling the iPhone in 24 countries
And there are over 170 countries... Also, when it comes to smartphones it's the western world and particularly US mkt. is what counts. If your product rocks in this mkt. then you have a chance. Look at Samsung how badly they need US mkt.
kirtijthorat··on BeWifi lets you steal your neighbor’s bandwidth when they’re not using it
Liked it. Very intelligent way to utilize the spare bandwidth. One thing everyone forgets is that we are actually paying for the full-month bandwidth from Cable companies so they shouldn't worry if I use it 24 x 7 x 30 OR my neighbor. As long as there is mechanism to give priority to the owner when he demands the full bandwidth.
kirtijthorat··on Amazon Considering Online Pay-TV Service
An excellent move by Amazon. This is something I've been waiting for. I hope it becomes a reality though...
kirtijthorat··on Supercomputer takes 40 minutes to simulate 1 second of a human brain
One thing we have to understand here is that 1 second of human brain activity is quite a lot of computing! It's not 'just one second'. This incredible experiment shows how the human curiosity has gone so far to build a artificial thinking machine. It would be great to see the compute result of if we could add 10 Supercomputer.
kirtijthorat··on Joyent co-founder on why AWS will win, OpenStack will flatline, connected cars
Google+ rant post is just amazing! Very interesting and way better than the Joyent co-founder article. I hope Google will launch its G+ API so that 3rd party developers can use it just like twitter and FB which will be a great reason consider using Google+ more seriously.
kirtijthorat··on Female Founders
Too Long; But Read (i.e. TL;BR which is exactly opposite of standard TL;DR). I gotta admit this is an excellent read. If this was not from "Paul Graham" I would not have read even the half of it. One thing is for sure that, I don't care what media and others (haters) think. Paul has done so much for the tech start-up world. Just see the "Thanks" section at the bottom of the page and you will see the names of women entrepreneurs names and do a Google search on them and you will see their start-up venture. Some of them have been aqua-hired by notch firms. That's matters. Period.
kirtijthorat··on Why Apple Is Losing Ground To The Samsung Brand
So basically Apple still wins in terms of CASH whereas Samsung will have noticeable presence in the market with low profit. But then eventually few years later if this same trend continues provide Samsung still can survive on low profit, Samsung will have majority % share of consumers with their device which in turn will start adding profits. There only $7 Billion people on the planet who will Apple sell their iPhone if the Samsung (and others except Apple) captured most of them? Also, due to the high cost of smartphones and contract terms it's not easy to upgrade the device.
kirtijthorat··on Keen On 2014: Apple, Apple & Apple
Why would Robert Scoble compare Apple’s iWatch & Google Glass together? These two things are totally different. One is smart watch where as other one is a wearable computer. I don't get it. Then he goes on giving everyone meaning Microsoft and Google fair chance of disrupting market with some if logic. And, finally he says there won’t be any truly new-new things in 2014 which will be just refinement rather than revolution. But, what about other tech companies beyond these three biggies? They have as good as chance of disrupting the market with some new innovation.
kirtijthorat··on Oracle set to issue 147 security patches, including 36 for Java
This Java thing is getting tiresome. It's feel like Microsoft's Windows software updates that we all are used to. Oh well, I am glad that I use Google Chromebook laptop which doesn't have Java and Windows OS (of course). One thing also good about Chromebook is that I don't any anti-virus software at all.
kirtijthorat··on Supreme Court Will Hear Aereo Case, Settling Broadcaster Battle Once & For All
This will be an interesting battle to watch. Will Aereo prevail? Any prediction? You all have probably heard of a little trend going on called “cord cutting”? I watch streamed digital content via Netflix and Chromecast. I will NEVER go back to Cable or Satellite again. Too much restrictions on channel packages also long term commitment.
kirtijthorat··on Nintendo battles patent troll and wins … a patent portfolio
This is excellent victory to the honest. Also, it is nice to see that big companies are fighting for them instead of just accepting the defeat due to the upfront legal lawsuit cost which is high. Many times it is less costly (non-lawsuit route) to pay these patent trolls just to go away.
kirtijthorat··on ‘Anti-Amazon Law’ is About To Become A Reality In France, But It’s Not A Bad
"So the real question isn’t whether the law is going too far, but whether it will be enough to save the 2,500 independent bookstores in France" IMO this law itself needs to be revised. This sounds like union law that we see in some companies. They are good in certain cases but not in this case. We're in internet world where technology is shaping our lives daily. Govt. is going opposite direction.
kirtijthorat··on Tesla Model X Spotted on Public Road in Culver City, California
It seems to be the only fully operational Tesla Model "X" yet in existence as we don't have any other media source who has spotted or covered this model before. Also, I personally think other car Mfg. need to support as Tesla cannot be the only manufacturer lobbying for side cameras instead of mirrors. The camera with sensors, and a rock solid software will ultimately do a superior job with blind spots than the mirrors.
kirtijthorat··on Oculus VR’s New “Crystal Cove” Prototype Is Kind of Amazing
Does anyone know when this will be released? It says Prototype Model and then there is a developer kit. I am not a big fan of Developer Kit as they tend to be far from ready to be a consumer product. Also add the price factor. Ditto goes to Google Glass which has a developer edition for $1500 (of course only for selected/invited ones) but if it ever becomes a reality i.e. meaning a real consumer product and drops the price to $300 then I will not be happy since it cost me $1200 more and the latest model may have better h/w components.
kirtijthorat··on Snapchat Says Sorry for Data Breach, Updates Apps With Find Friends Opt-Out
It’s taken a while but SnapChat has finally said sorry for their infamous data breach. But the question still remains is what would you do if your were one of the victim of the 4.6 million usernames and phone numbers that were leaked. Would you just accept an apology? I don;t thinks so.
kirtijthorat··on LinkedIn Files Lawsuit to Unmask Anonymous Hackers
This is very interesting. How can you sue an unknown person? Beats me. Also, as GigaOM points out, it’s unclear really if LinkedIn has a solid leg to stand on since it isn't exactly illegal to copy information from a website. In addition to the aforementioned laws, the company also says the unknown users are violating their own terms of service. Read GigaOM article here: http://gigaom.com/2014/01/07/linkedin-sues-to-stop-bots-that...
kirtijthorat··on Apple and Samsung CEOs to meet by February 19th, give peace another chance
Neither company is exactly playing nice here. The legal battle over smartphone patents across many countries for supremacy in the mobile device market is far stretched. Let's wait and see what happens this time.
kirtijthorat··on Stop Writing JavaScript Compilers, Make Macros Instead
I would also recommend the WISP: A homoiconic JavaScript dialect with Clojure syntax, s-expressions and macros. More details at: https://github.com/Gozala/wisp
kirtijthorat··on LG Chromebase hands on: More room to work but at what cost?
My guess price is $599. Would it offer a tough competition to Apple's iMac? Yes and No. It depends but If I could get the same experience of iMac on a similar device for $500 or less, I probably would buy this device.
kirtijthorat··on Yahoo Girds Its Loins For The Battle Over Your Home Screen
How is this different from "Google Now"? The basic premise appear to be just the same as Google now apart from the launcher grid layout. Is this Yahoo's answer to Google Now?
kirtijthorat··on Ahoy, Geeky Google to transport workers by private ferry in San Francisco
Why is Google experimenting with ferry route to get employees from San Francisco to its headquarters in Mountain View? Does this has to do something with San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee who has just proposed to charge $100,000 a year per tech companies whose commuter shuttles stop at public MUNI bus stops? This is a very interesting move. Read Mayor Ed Lee's Tech Crunch article at: http://techcrunch.com/2014/01/06/charging-tech-shuttles-for-...
kirtijthorat··on Twitter Co-Founder Biz Stone Explains Surprising Goal Of His New Company, Jelly
Yet another social networking which will add more noise to our virtual space. I liked the concept but I don't see the very need of it as I could just post my question on Facebook? Why do we need a social media tool just for Q&A?
kirtijthorat··on Why good governments should embrace open data
OpenGov is a very nice initiative. I did not know any such project in existence at all. One thing is for sure that in order to build trust one need to be transparent and accountable. Who says modern technology won't solve into Govt. related issues? This great initiative is a perfect answer. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing with us.
kirtijthorat··on Why good governments should embrace open data
This is an excellent article to read. I am very impressed with the thoughts. Here are some of the best quotes(for those who r in hurry or that TL;DR): We’re a long way from where we need to be — and end that will require governments to change, too. "No one tries to judge what uses people will have for it,” he said, “but having the information enables people to derive whatever they need.” ‘Are we saving money with open data?’ The only question I would suggest public agencies should focus on is ‘Are we doing the right thing? Are we making our data available and machine-consumable to our communities?’”
kirtijthorat··on Meet tech billionaire and real life Iron Man Elon Musk
This is an excellent read. Every tech entrepreneur should read this article if they want to Know Elon Musk. Very inspiring. Reminds me Steve Jobs loved phrase "Stay Hungry Stay Foolish".... A must-read.
kirtijthorat··on Are the Best and Brightest Still Coming to Silicon Valley?
Also, worth reading their next segment that answers the following related question: So why do people still come to Silicon Valley? Visit: http://techonomy.com/2014/01/people-still-come-silicon-valle...
kirtijthorat··on Facebook bots grope our 'privates', and every wronged user should get $10,000
Here we go again: another class action lawsuit against a big tech company accused of over-stepping privacy boundaries. This one says Facebook scans private messages opportunities in search of ad opportunities. You can view Facebook Class Action Re Message Scanning on Scribd: http://www.scribd.com/doc/195402798/Facebook-Class-Action-Re...
kirtijthorat··on This girl just got fired? BlackBerry parts ways with Alicia Keys
She shouldn't be a "directors" post from the beginning anyway. Why would a tech company bring a on "creative directors" that have no practical experience? She is a terrific singer - no doubt about that. I love Alicia Keys and her music. This is no one else's fault but BB's. On the other hand, Blackberry: who? do they still around?
kirtijthorat··on 15 Quotes To Inspire You To Greatness in 2014
These 15 quotes from Forbes magazine are just amazing! Hard to find gems. Great quotes can inspire us, motivate us, and help us get through hard times.
kirtijthorat··on Leak shows LG's radical new interface for its webOS Smart TVs
This is actually pretty sweet looking interface. After HP gave up on their PC business they open-sourced some of the webOS code, and LG bought the rights to it. Palm’s webOS, once a dead-cert for smartphone OS supremacy, is tipped to be resurrected by LG at CES 2014. Can't wait.
