The Street View lookup seems to favour interior views - sometimes this works well (search for "tate modern"), and other times not..

It is using the standard Google Maps API (version 3).

It would seem so, but the limit is quite generous and you only have to pay if you exceed it for a prolonged period of time.

You can zoom the map out to cover any area you like, including the whole world!

There's also a random button which shows random views from within the current map.

That's strange as the generated links are only designed to contain alphanumeric characters - the link didn't work because the regex rejected the hyphen.

I've changed it now - does the link correspond to the correct location? If not, please can you let me know the address which generated this link?

Love the simplicity of the design.

I know it's not original content, but if he is collecting and republishing interesting images that other people have spent their time looking for (rather than trawling through Street View himself), then he should credit the source.

I run such a site myself and have been accused of stealing from Rafman's gallery, which is impossible as he does not list the location for each image.

See my comment above. The sites where the pictures were originally found generally have a link to Google Maps for each image.

These pictures are all taken from other Google Street View gallery sites, with the location information removed and the source uncredited.

I scrape the Google RSS feeds myself. I've set it to only show news published in the last 8 hours, in order to limit the number of articles on screen.

I plan to add HN & Reddit as sources.

First off, yes, it's very much a clone of Newsmap (www.newsmap.jp), but it's written in Javascript rather than Flash, so it works across most (all?) devices.

The tiling algorithm is my own and should work well even on small screens.

The news articles are sourced from the Google News RSS feeds.

Combining multiple countries shouldn't be a problem, but I'll have to modify the UI a bit.

Sports subcategories I've looked at as well, but it starts to get messy and I wanted to keep everything simple.

I don't think I could accept donations, but I'll try to add those features when I have time!

I had not considered zoom functionality at all. I'm not sure that it's possible to specify that an element shouldn't be resized (the menu), I'll have to investigate.

I experimented with that, but if you click a link from the "app" it loads the browser, with no easy way back to the app.
