kioleanu··on Revolut confirms customer data breach through fake government requests
You assume wrong if you’re taking about old-school banks. They’ll still scan your id and it ends up in the same system
kioleanu··on Diesel prices in U.S. top $6 a gallon for first time
What you on about? A gallon of diesel is 5,9 euros in Italy and 8,6 euros in Germany. In other countries anywhere in between
kioleanu··on Meta wanted to reduce teams by 60% because of AI
Do we have another source that’s not an excerpt of an article?
kioleanu··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
There‘s a checkbox called “Enhanced Protection” (name might vary, I have the app in another language) that specifically says it’s for stuff like YouTube
kioleanu··on We Are Rebuilding Monica
Great! Maybe this time around I’ll manage to get the email notifications going
kioleanu··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
I don’t have YouTube ads with Safari and AdGuard
kioleanu··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
I was on the resort’s WiFi, no vpn. What is strange maybe is that if I search my outgoing ip address, the resort is listed as the ISP
kioleanu··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
I am currently in Italy (just passing through) and was able to open the archive link with the article
kioleanu··on Kobo can run apps now
You can jailbreak your kindle and get similar functionality through KOReader plugins https://omer-faruq.github.io/appstore.koplugin/
kioleanu··on Take-Two subpoenas Microsoft and Discord in hunt for GTA 6 leaker
I am a complete legal layman here. What is the actual damage produced by this leak? What can actually be asked for in a trial should it go there? Money? Or is this just a normal hacking case and some cyber law was broken?
kioleanu··on Error by AI scribe during medical appointment leaves patient devastated
This reads to me like “Some of you may die, but it’s a sacrifice I am willing to make”
kioleanu··on Error by AI scribe during medical appointment leaves patient devastated
I am shocked by the comments in this thread ranging from “yeah but humans also make mistakes” to “yeah but how many mistakes does an AI do compared to a human”. Neither of those is the point here. We have doctors that have employed AI as a software to help them and that software is flawed. I am a software developer and if I write some piece of medical software with bugs that are so blatant in it, I'd see hell up to potentially being sued into oblivion
kioleanu··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
It’s the same in Romania where they use the system for every little thing from it’s raining heavily (often the alert comes during said heavy rain) or a nearby fire, or one infamous message saying something on the lines of “here comes the bear” when a bear was spotted within city limits. And it’s loud so a lot of people simply disabled the alerts altogether. But now that the real alerts are coming - see Russian drones entering the country, many people have them disabled
kioleanu··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
I avoid speaking to AIs in anything else than English as the results are almost always worse
kioleanu··on More German than many Germans
There is one rule of thumb that I’ve noticed: if you are a reasonable person and integrate you will be treated as one of their own. Otherwise not.

Your article mirrors my own experience 1:1, it’s like I’ve written it myself. Apart from the citizenship process. Even though it was also 14 months long (eerie lol), I had to do a lot of noise about it, because they are processing applications out of order (some people got theirs in two weeks, some in two years, no rhyme or reason) - press, meetings with local politicians etc. Which helped my personal case but didn’t fix the problem at all.

kioleanu··on 'Crush this lady': how eBay harassment campaign led to $56M payout

I’ve been in the corporate world long enough in my life to know that that is not out of the question

kioleanu··on More Tailscale tricks for your jailbroken Kindle
ACSM, I don’t know about Amazon. In my case I can still use the kindle software itself to read those if I decide to ever buy from Amazon again
kioleanu··on More Tailscale tricks for your jailbroken Kindle
Same for Kindle. Nothing changes, you just have a link to open KOReader and you can still use your device as before, if you choose to
kioleanu··on More Tailscale tricks for your jailbroken Kindle
I’ve only just installed it this week, but for me:

- DRM support (via a Plugin)

- Dark mode on an older device

- SSH Server

- Custom dictionaries

Next on my list is to find a plugin that can transform imperial to metric for when I’m reading American books

Edit: oh and also something that syncs my progress on books not bought from Amazon on multiple devices

kioleanu··on More Tailscale tricks for your jailbroken Kindle
I had no idea I can update it manually, I’ve always relied on the over the air update, that, in this case, says I’m on the newest version
kioleanu··on More Tailscale tricks for your jailbroken Kindle
I’ve just jailbroken my Kindle this week. I have a Paperwhite 7th Generation and my biggest problem was that I didn’t have dark mode on it. Turns out the only reason that is is because Amazon didn’t want me to have it. Maybe maybe I’ll buy a new device. KOReader has no problem with dark mode and is much faster and snappier than the Kindle software.

What’s funnier is that both my son and my wife have the Paperwhite 10th generation, but only my wife’s device has dark mode. Same exact device, different software depending on when it was bought.

The second major reason for Jailbreaking is that KOReader can do DRM through a plugin so I was finally able to loan out ebooks from my library. No need for a new device, the 10 year old one works extremely well with the right software

kioleanu··on London Gatwick has launched a robotic airport parking service
What exactly would be subsidized by the people taking the train if the people driving up to (not parking at!) the airport wouldn’t pay a fee?
kioleanu··on London Gatwick has launched a robotic airport parking service
I may be a socialist but being able to bring your heavy luggage to the door of the place you already pay a fee to be at (airport taxes) should be free, no? Like in all other parts of Europe

And they say, oh, no, you can come for free if you’re willing to walk 15 minutes to the terminal. No, that’s greed plain and simple.

kioleanu··on London Gatwick has launched a robotic airport parking service
Are these not the guys that ask like 7 pounds to drive up to kiss & fly? Good to see that money’s put to good use!
kioleanu··on I tricked Claude into leaking your deepest, darkest secrets
you're not wrong at all, this was abysmally handled by Anthropic and is a slap in the face for OP. I would have been much more upset

kioleanu··on Ask HN: Best Hetzner Alternatives?
I second this, been with them for 6 years. Very reliable and transparent and the owner still answers emails himself
kioleanu··on Notes from the Mistral AI Now Summit
I just got an email from them saying that they’re retiring some (most?) of the dedicated models like devstral gradually through August and one should now use the general model. Cost grows exponentially

Devstral 2 (devstral-2512 and devstral-latest) → We recommend transitioning to Mistral Medium 3.5 (mistral-medium-3-5 with reasoning_effort set to "high"), a stronger model, priced $1.5/$7.5 per million input/output tokens (change from the previous $0.4/$2).

kioleanu··on Protestware for coding agents
> Would you count this as malware if it was about the author trying to profit or steal from inattentive people using AI?

That’s a slippery slope and not at all related to the subject of the article
