I agree, for better or for worse.

If I had to bet my money, it would be on "for worse".

kingofthehill98··on Will It Mythos?
Only if you buy their math, which basically is "hey, if we don't do any training we can actually make a profit".

The problem with that math is that if they don't do any training they would be out of the market in 12 months, they're only relevant ("profitable") precisely because they trained the current reference SOTA model.

They can't just release Mythos and sit on top of it forever, competition is catching up fast and people expect a new more powerful model every 6 months.

kingofthehill98··on US holds off blacklisting DeepSeek, more than 100 firms deemed security risks
>The US has a long history of protecting individual freedoms

You can't be serious.

Was the individual freedom of those 120 Iranian girls protected?

Was the individual freedom of Renée Good protected? Alex Pretti?

kingofthehill98··on US holds off blacklisting DeepSeek, more than 100 firms deemed security risks
Yeah, I remember clearly when China invaded/bombed: Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Venezuela, Panama, Syria...
kingofthehill98··on How to setup a local coding agent on macOS
Yeah, if the future is "Claude, think for me" I'm happy to stay at the good old present.
kingofthehill98··on The Technocracy Movement of the 1930s
Peter Thiel is the definition of "rich people bad", he's the stereotype of the billionaire who wants to rule over the state because somehow he knows what's best for us.

He's a lunatic.

kingofthehill98··on Claude Sonnet 4.6
What?! That's well regarded as one of the worst features introduced after the Twitter acquisition.

Any thread these days is filled with "@grok is this true?" low effort comments. Not to mention the episode in which people spent two weeks using Grok to undress underage girls.

kingofthehill98··on Fragment of a human face aged over one million years discovered
The craziest thing for me is that there's a lot of evidence for claiming that Sapiens interbred with other Homos, such as the Neanderthal.
kingofthehill98··on Meta Movie Gen
But mostly just porn.
kingofthehill98··on I Quit Teaching Because of ChatGPT
That's unfathomable to me. I live in a 1kk metropolitan area and I can go basically anywhere without a navigation system, in fact I'll only pull the GPS if I'm going to some remote neighborhood.

P.S: I was born here and lived here all my life.

kingofthehill98··on Twitter/X migrated to Cloudflare, bypassing Brazilian block
No, it's not.
kingofthehill98··on Twitter/X migrated to Cloudflare, bypassing Brazilian block
Don't see why they would join this fight agains't Brazil.

The money X Corp is paying them cannot be THAT great to justify losing all brazilian costumers and Cloudflare doesn't seem like a very ideology-driven company.

kingofthehill98··on Twitter/X migrated to Cloudflare, bypassing Brazilian block
Exactly, they were the ones burning books. I'd like to keep them prohibited from openly defending their ideology online or offline.

If you're a Nazi the only place you belong is in a prison cell.

kingofthehill98··on Twitter/X migrated to Cloudflare, bypassing Brazilian block
Free speech is not a law set in stone, in the US you can be a Nazi without any legal repercussions, here in Brazil you cannot.

I'd like to keep it that way.

kingofthehill98··on Twitter/X migrated to Cloudflare, bypassing Brazilian block
I'd say it's more likely that Cloudflare will receive a legal order to block X in Brazil.
kingofthehill98··on Twitter/X migrated to Cloudflare, bypassing Brazilian block
Then our Supreme Court will have to issue a legal order to Cloudflare, which has representatives in Brazil, to block X nation-wide.

Blocking Cloudflare itself wouldn't make any sense as our country systems themselves would get hurt and I don't think Cloudflare will deny such order.

kingofthehill98··on Which open-source projects are widely used but maintained by just a few people?
One of those people is Nikita Popov (nikic). PHP core development took a hard hit when he left to work on other projects at JetBrains.
kingofthehill98··on Swift is a more convenient Rust
Thank you!

The whole time I was like "what in the absolute hell is a ML language".

kingofthehill98··on Google Pixel 9 Pro
The Nexus 4 was beautiful, IMO one of the coolest smartphones ever made. It was manufactured by LG, but AFAIK Google was responsible for the design.
kingofthehill98··on Google Pixel 9 Pro
I never used a case in my life, owned like 6 phones since my first Galaxy back in 2012. Much rather deal with a few scratches than touching some cheap case instead of the premium metal/glass.

My reason is that I never sell phones anyway, after 2 years I get a new one and give the old one to a cousin or something like that.

kingofthehill98··on Premature Abstraction
That's the strategy I always take when designing a system. Funny that I never thought about it before, I think most PHP developers will relate to that aswell.

- Procedural single point entrance into the system (network -> public/index.php, cli -> bin/console)

- OOP core for business logic, heavily borrowed (copied) from Java OOP model

- Functional code inside classes/methods whenever possible (callables/closures, array_map/filter/reduce/walk, illuminate/collections, etc.)

kingofthehill98··on Ask HN: Is there any software you only made for your own use but nobody else?
I would totally use this no matter how bad the code is.
kingofthehill98··on Show HN: I'm Building a Better Goodreads
How is it better than Goodreads?
kingofthehill98··on US Supreme Court allows cities to ban homeless camps
Can't have a home if you don't have a job. Can't get a job if you're homeless.

It's the year 2024 after the birth of Jesus Christ, mankind has produced more wealth and technology than we ever thought it was possible, meanwhile we're living this miserable life, working these shitty jobs, while less than 1% of the population has more money than they could ever spend.

Capitalism should be left behind, we're ruining the only planet we have. It's a system with a critical bug deep in it's core and it'll never be fixed.

kingofthehill98··on After Furiosa flops, Hollywood could be facing a biblically disastrous summer
Marvel forever ruined Hollywood.
kingofthehill98··on Show HN: LangCSS – An AI Assistant for Tailwind
Honestly a FREE and simple web service for managing subscriptions sounds like a great idea. It could sent out emails every month saying how much you're paying for all your subscriptions, for how long you've been subbed to them, etc.

If someone builds this, please do not ask for yet another subscription. At least make it self-hostable and charge for the hosted one.

kingofthehill98··on For Brilliant Color: Packaging the First LSD Blotter
If you ever get the chance of taking LSD on a good set and setting (don't even try otherwise) and your family has no history of mental ilness, go ahead and take it. It's gonna be one of the most interesting experiences in your life, to say the least. There's nothing like a psychedelic experience, I can't even put it to words.
kingofthehill98··on Are We Watching the Internet Die?
I just want them to stop ruining every good platform out there. The enshitfication process of Twitter and Reddit has been remarkable in this sense.

I think this is the idea behind the post, users shouldn't "get" anything, they just need to stop destroying every good online experience left.

kingofthehill98··on Open-sourcing our progress on Tailwind CSS v4.0
It's not exactly easy either.

In the end I'll be writing <PricingCard :price="product.price" /> anyway. All that Tailwind garbage will be nicely hidden inside the component.

kingofthehill98··on Open-sourcing our progress on Tailwind CSS v4.0
On my pet projects? Absolutely.

On work projects with 5 years of contributions wrote by 50+ collaborators and close deadlines? Hardly think so.
