kiicia··on LLM-Deflate: Extracting LLMs into Datasets
no, the simplest example that it is not possible in practice is in heraldry, where blazon - that is description, yield different emblazon - that is depiction, depending on who and where creates crest

crest always stays true to descriptions but details are always different

now when I think about it, heraldry is practical way to describe how generative algorithms work

kiicia··on Philips announces digital pathology scanner with native DICOM JPEG XL output

kiicia··on LLM-Deflate: Extracting LLMs into Datasets
it's exactly the same as JPEG images being lossy, while you can see image as a whole (and it is enough for 99% of people), you are obviously missing some details

and the more you rely on those details (professional photography, scientific data) the more obvious it is (to the point of image being useless in some cases)

same with LLMs, we are currently testing how far we can go before we seeing obvious issues

kiicia··on 60 years after Gemini, newly processed images reveal details
Absolute least they did is to rescan original film with newer type of scanning process/device into higher resolution and bit depth „digital negative”. You cannot replicate that from low quality jpeg image.
kiicia··on Chat Control faces blocking minority in the EU
And how camera is supposed to prevent shooter from firing bullets? You think like shooter cares if they are filmed or not? If anything it will encourage them to shoot because there will be more permanent record of their actions…
kiicia··on Chat Control faces blocking minority in the EU
Because nazis were peak of totalitarianism disguised as democracy and stemmed directly from seemingly (that is while looking at smaller parts of it) democratic process
kiicia··on Chat Control faces blocking minority in the EU
So what you say is that you accept one side of extremum but not other side? Democracy as in having common goal is bad but democracy as in tribalism is good?
kiicia··on Why our website looks like an operating system
It’s because those were made to be bad solution by very advertising companies wanting people to be denied their rights and making it look like law is bad instead of implementation being bad
kiicia··on Why our website looks like an operating system
Law was created as response to advertisers invading privacy, are you arguing that unchecked invasion of your privacy is worth it? If anything unchecked invasion of privacy wasted all of those hours plus hours of work of lawmakers plus hours of work while implementing all that advertising in the first place…
kiicia··on Why our website looks like an operating system
So you know who “bad guys” are and you still make strawman argument?
kiicia··on Is OOXML Artifically Complex?
It mostly did that until they changed it few versions ago, now it sometimes does, sometimes does not and sometimes falls flat on face depending on exact context of your action…

Kitchen appliances generally use powerline ethernet, ethernet over power is just simple inversion of power over ethernet already used in certain network appliances.
kiicia··on Tiny, removable "mini SSD" could eventually be a big deal for gaming handhelds
There are specialized heavy duty sd cards like Kingston industrial, Samsung pro endurance, gigastone mlc, that have MLC memory and are designed for long term storage in extended environment parameters There are also other brands but are less known, more expensive and not available in typical places with consumer electronics

Same applies to SSD drives, there are consumer drives that have colorful boxes with claims like speed or size, and there are specialized SSD drives based on MLC chips that are still available here and there

GDPR is about accountability for handling identifiers like full name of actual person. Using parts of names, where each part does not identify any particular person, in generalized list like described here does not fall under GDPR.

If you can get crypto currency, maybe yes in some cases. Currently available currencies are not anonymous, but pseudonymous. You can track who transacts with whom.

To help with that new laws were passed.

If you want to buy crypto for fiat currency legally, like on some well known crypto exchange, newest laws require naming recipient of crypto you are sending and if that wallet is self hosted or exchange hosted (and which exchange). You either need to provide full name of person or company, or confirm it’s your other account you are sending crypto to.

There is one actually private crypto, it’s monero, but - surprise - it’s nor available on legal crypto exchanges so you cannot buy it by any official means.

kiicia··on Transmitting data via ultrasound without any special equipment
This reminded me of „Ultrasonic investigations in shopping centers”[1]

> Ultrasonic pilot tones, commonly used in PA systems to monitor speaker connections, are often modulated by background noise or movement. These tones can be used for various purposes, such as speed detection, escalator monitoring, positioning codes, ad delivery, and finding quiet areas in shopping centers.

kiicia··on Dimension 126 Contains Twisted Shapes, Mathematicians Prove
> Mathematicians Weinan Lin, Guozhen Wang, and Zhouli Xu have proven that 126-dimensional space can contain exotic, twisted shapes known as manifolds with a Kervaire invariant of 1—solving a 65-year-old problem in topology. These manifolds, previously known to exist only in dimensions 2, 6, 14, 30, and 62, cannot be smoothed into spheres and were the last possible case under what’s called the “doomsday hypothesis.” Their existence in dimension 126 was confirmed using both theoretical insights and complex computer calculations, marking a major milestone in the study of high-dimensional geometric structures.

it does not matter in practice, let's say you do a full refresh once a second, it would take more than 11 days to do 1 million refreshes, if you do full refresh once a minute, it would take 2 years
kiicia··on What If We Made Advertising Illegal?
Ad business stopped to be necessary and started to be almost exclusively evil years ago. If you pay sociologists and psychologists to design „most effective ad” for you, something is clearly wrong. 100 years ago ads were indeed ways of discovering products and services. But now ads are almost exclusively battlefields for more and more money paid for by consumers’ anxiety, wellbeing and health when ads are more and more dishonest and hostile.
kiicia··on What if we made advertising illegal?
There are two ways of trying to achieving goal. One is to start from big picture, think if we even want to do something, then plan how to go there. Second is to start from technicalities and probably immediately go nowhere.

You are starting from technicalities before you even took the moment to actually think of goal is worth it.

If it is worth it and we would indeed be better off - plan how to go there, it may not be easy, but it will be possible this way or another. If it is not worth it after all - just say it, no technicalities needed, redirect time and effort elsewhere.

clearly he was planning this move ahead of time with one goal in mind, that is to get specialized help for his kid thanks to amounts of money he has

of course he would be happy with this move even if "normal" people would burn around him because he and his family is shielded and have gold parachute that allows him to go back to eu within hours
