OnboardIQ is a hiring automation platform for companies employing lots of hourly workers — think delivery companies, retail, call centers, and service marketplaces. We went through Y Combinator’s batch last summer (S15), raised a $3.3m seed round, and we’ve grown tremendously in the past year. On the surface, we're a b2b software tool.

Underneath the hood, we've collected approx. million applicants by serving as the backend that processes every single one of our customer's hourly-workforce applicants, and we've started to build algorithms that can predict hire rates and retention of applicants in a service economy that is characterized by unpredictable labor.

Our stack is in Ruby on Rails + React.

So where can we see this "move 78" that everyone is talking about, without having to go through the entire match counting?

Lead Ruby on Rails Engineer | San Francisco, CA | Full-time only | 120k-140k, 1-2% equity | https://onboardiq.com/

OnboardIQ (YC S15) is a hiring automation platform for companies employing hourly workers — customers like Munchery, Sprig, Caviar, Shyp, and ZIRX use our software to vet and onboard 100% of their hourly workforce. What we build fundamentally affects the way people work across the world.

We are a young company backed by some of the Valley’s top investors, including Y Combinator (S15), SoftTech, Crosslink, Slow Ventures, Thiel, and more.

Our MRR has grown 10x in the past 3 months, and we are continuing to grow at a break-neck speed.

If you're excited about being employee #3 at YC-backed startup and building our engineering team, email me at keith@onboardiq.com

kibaekr··on How to Start a Startup: Fall 2014
Wow this list is unreal. It's the Olympic lineup of the startup world. So jealous of the students that get to attend in-person.

Haha!
kibaekr··on California deems carpooling via all ride-share services illegal
Didn't SF try to ban Airbnb a while back too? Whatever happened to that?
kibaekr··on Last day to apply for Startup School
They say "apply for the audience, not the talks." Haven't had the opportunity to attend in the past, but would love to go and meet the awesome people attending!
kibaekr··on New Requests for Startups
It would be awesome if programming could actually be as easy as you imagine it to be in your head. Any non-tech person could program in their head: When this happens, do that, except for when this happens. It's more of the hidden bugs and shit just not working for no reason that makes programming so difficult and frustrating, but if there was a way that things would "just work," that would be game changer.
kibaekr··on Show HN: Handshake - a Haptic Effects Library for HTML5
Not sure what I'm supposed to do on that link.. are the buttons supposed to do something?
kibaekr··on Researchers Develop Method for Getting High-Quality Photos from Crappy Lenses
This is awesome! I actually was just thinking this earlier today looking at one of my profile pictures. I liked a particular photo a lot but it had bad resolution when magnified and I was wondering if it would be possible to make it high def through some software that automatically divided and colored in the pixels.

Although it's not the exact same, I'm sure this sort of software can be applied to restore old photos!

kibaekr··on Observations from a Tipless Restaurant
If restaurants really wanted to insure prompt service, install bells at each table that would silently notify the staff members when a customer presses it. This is how it's done in Korea, and in every airplane, and it works perfectly.

No need for waving and trying to make eye contact on that part, and no need for servers to constantly interrupt your conversation. Not to mention this is also more convenient for the servers as they can monitor a single screen rather than the entire room.

kibaekr··on Observations from a Tipless Restaurant
I never understood why servers need an extra incentive to do their job well. It's their job - shouldn't they have some sort of entitlement to do perform well, even without the extra cash? There are so many other professions in the service industry, where the tip culture is nonexistent, yet there never seems to be an outstanding issue.

The cashiers at Safeway, McDonald's drive-thru, flight attendants, and anyone in the workforce for that matter, don't whine about tips. They do their job, and they get paid for what their services are worth from their employers.

I'm not opposing giving tips if you received amazing service and you truly feel like giving one. I just hate the fact that the 18% tip is almost taken for granted nowadays, and you become the cheap one if you tip less. The tip system, if at all it should exist, should work so that the extra money customers pay actually reflect the service they received - not be socially forced down their throats.

kibaekr··on MIT Level Introductory Physics - Free Online Course Starts March 1st
I wonder if MIT will offer free web development courses. I know Harvard's David Malan offers free online courses (academicearth), but it's mainly PHP. It'd be nice to have a legit Ruby on Rails course.
kibaekr··on The New Web Typography
I feel a little stupid in not really understanding the significance of this blog post. So what are the examples suggesting? I can't seem to notice anything too radical.

One thing that I've noticed/learned of web typography is that fonts with edges (Times New Roman) work well offline on actual paper, but is extremely hard to read on-screen. After realizing this, I started to notice that most fonts meant for on-screen reading were edge-less (sans-serif).

kibaekr··on Why I Hate Android
If anything, I think the US carriers should be blamed for the imprisonment of mobile technology. It doesn't matter how advanced the Android OS becomes if the hardware on the market can't handle it. Consumers are locked up for 2 years with outdated devices, and the OS developers need to intentionally lag themselves to suit the entire market.

I understand that the carriers are only doing their job, but I feel like a new system needs to take place - maybe sign a 3 year contract, but allow updates each year with discounts.

I don't exactly know what other ramifications such a system may cause, but I for one would love it. I don't see myself changing carriers unless something major happens, so I would be happy to sign for a longer "enslavement" for the tradeoff of being able to update my phone more regularly.

kibaekr··on Microsoft launches an HTML5 version of Cut the Rope
This really does show the power and potential of HTML5. Personally, I'm really looking forward to the day where I can easily make notes and draw on any given webpage, and be able to save and share them.
