khqc··on I wasted years of my life in crypto
Is it really a waste if you made enough money to retire?
khqc··on Surprisingly, Emacs on Android is pretty good
Another (easier imo) way is to just install Emacs in the standard termux installation and run an X11 server, see https://hadi.timachi.com/posts/emacs_GUI_on_android/emacs_GU...
khqc··on Starship was doomed from the beginning
SpaceX doesn't do scale model testing?
khqc··on Using MPC for Anonymous and Private DNA Analysis
I'm pretty sure it's model predictive control
khqc··on Neurite
Great concept! However like many zettelkasten implementations it gives the user too much freedom imo. To me zettelkasten are most useful because of their limitations, like restricting the size of each note, limiting how many notes you can see at a time, or limiting how fast you can traverse through notes. I think it's more important to be able to hold the overall structure of notes in your mind, which zettelkasten facilitates by intentionally making everything harder to do.

khqc··on My LLM codegen workflow
I guess you're not a big fan of rubber duck debugging then? Whenever I get stuck I like to ask myself a bunch of questions and thought experiments to get a better understanding of the problem/project, and with LLMs I'm forced to spell out each one of these questions/experiments coherently, which ends up being great documentation later on. I think LLMs are great if you're actually interested in the fundamentals of your problem/project, otherwise it just turns into a sinkhole that sucks you in.
khqc··on My business card runs Linux and Ultrix (2022)
Just from the schematic, it took me longer than necessary to figure out the leftmost symbol was for USB-C
khqc··on Watch cars evolve using genetic algorithm
Slight bug: there's no road past about 280m, all cars fall into an endless pit
khqc··on Elegant open source project tracking, Trello like but self-hosted
Anyone using icescrum? I like how it can be self-hosted
khqc··on Show HN: A game to memorize scale degrees on the guitar fretboard
Were you able to transfer some of what you learned back to standard tuning or did you never go back?
khqc··on Why do software nowadays take so much more memory and processing power (2020)
Probably because old software (e.g. emacs) feels a lot faster than new software (e.g. vscode) on the same hardware, that and nostalgia
khqc··on It's My Monitor
Probably not the smartest idea to lead with "we threw most of them away"
khqc··on North Korean campaign targeting security researchers
there is an open issue that warns about this
khqc··on A clock where the time is in a song title
The light/dark mode toggle (I think that's what it is) does nothing for me
khqc··on Draw.io: Open Source Online Diagramming
The fact that you cannot create an arbitrary filled polygon in drawio baffles me.

I seriously tried to use this for documentation at my previous company, but the inability to create these basic custom components really limits this otherwise excellent tool.

Has anyone been able to do custom component libraries in drawio?

khqc··on The Jupyter+Git problem is now solved (2022)
org mode ftw
khqc··on Ask HN: Those with success using GPT-4 for programming – what are you doing?
I've been using it to do image processing in opencv, it's saved a lot of time I would've spent figuring out the required transforms and matrix operations
khqc··on ‘Why beethoven’ review: Can a genius survive?
personally Holdsworth is a must, it's some of the most replayable music imo
khqc··on What is the minimal polynomial of a matrix?
This is related to minimal realizations of state space models in control theory
khqc··on The extensible vi layer for Emacs
what made you move off emacs?
khqc··on Vimium – A browser extension that provides Vim-style keyboard controls
I actually like using "i" to toggle enabling/disabling the extension, more convenient and powerful imo
khqc··on Setting up an electronics workshop
I bought my Weller soldering iron and all the tips I needed for $200 CAD new on Amazon, not sure where these numbers are coming from.
khqc··on Path to a free, self-taught education in Computer Science
looks like they have some of that in the advanced theory section
khqc··on The ThinkPad TrackPoint tried to build a better mouse (2020)
completely anecdotal, but when Diablo 2 resurrected came out I went on a 2-day binge, 16 hours a day. A couple hours into the first day I was already feeling pain in my mouse hand, but after switching to trackpoint I had zero issues grinding for the next 2 days.
khqc··on Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/vAkOJHbWYn9AvxSOmlHp_1VrzW...

Does this meet your requirement?

khqc··on “Why should I use Nyxt if I can use Vimium?”
The pdf viewer is one of the reasons I won't use FF. on chrome vimium-c has already solved these issues (its pdf viewer is the smoothest I've used in any application)
khqc··on The Framework is the most exciting laptop I've used
I guess a workaround for now (until someone designs a trackpoint keyboard that fits in the framework) could be Lenovo's bluetooth trackpoint keyboard, I use it with every laptop and it's been great
khqc··on China unveils 600 kph maglev train
In my experience, it's actually pretty common for folks to get massive compensation for land in China. There's even a term (拆二代) that describes a whole generation that suddenly became rich after their parents' land was appropriated by the government.
khqc··on Show HN: Sioyek – PDF viewer for reading research papers and technical documents
Have you looked at the Onyx boox series? They have an e-ink tablet in A4 format (though no color yet)
