Linux made the political decision not to allow this, at the expense of end users.
If they are afraid of getting bug reports from guys running out-of-tree drivers, they can still keep using the "tainted" mechanism. It is not incompatible with having a stable API.
I agree that a more modern init system is necessary, but the idea of systemd is meh and the implementation is subpar.

Important: this coming from my background, which is WoW, and not any of these modern games and communities. Maybe things have changed? The average WoW player is definitely older than the average Fortnite/OW/whatever player.
Wait... Shouldn't it be the opposite? Paying for the game should make you more reticent to being an ass because losing access to it means you've lost money.
Something is really fucked up if getting one of your Google accounts banned is a "nightmare".
To everybody who's reading this: make the necessary arrangements to make sure getting one of your Google accounts banned is not the end of the world for you.
You also have private servers of all expansions.
That's where it breaks down: they will say "well, maybe 16+ yos CAN consent after all!", and then the number will start getting lower and lower.
I mean... I hope I'm wrong. But we have gone down this road already ;)
So maybe it is not surprising after all that youtube is doing this.
