This uninformative blog-spam should probably not be on HN. Reads like an ad, and a bad one.

> The /e/ ROM helps enhance device security and makes your Android powered smartphone much more secure. /e/ is a project of the E-Foundation, which is focused on enhancing a user’s device security by restricting anything that logs user data.

Can someone tell me what this thing actually is without marketing blurbs? Because I still don't get it.

> It is because due to Android being open source many apps can track you.

I already don't like it. How did this get to the front page of HN?

> Most important of all, these services are open source. Being open source makes it possible for meddling users to actually look at the source code and find out, whether they are sending the data to any servers or not.

> /e/ is a project of the E-Foundation, which is focused on enhancing a user’s device security by restricting anything that logs user data. As per the company, /e/ is a non-profit project, made in public interest. The E Foundation is building an open-source mobile operating system, which respects a user’s data privacy.

Well, maybe judged too quickly. Looks like there's more information at https://e.foundation/e-solutions/ – including a download link and gitlab instance. I guess the primary selling point is that it's an "un-Googled" smartphone OS.

There is a roadmap and a link to a list of supported devices on that page.

Here's another link I found when I went digging:

There have been several completely uninteresting posts about "slash e slash" on the front page already these last months. I think they are paying some spam farm for the upvotes or something.

At least it's clear from the slashes that it apparently has nothing to do with the E Foundation, as in E Foundation Libraries (which is currently down! that's surprising, whew https://enlightenment.org)
