kentf··on Show HN: Runner – A Better Claude Cowork
Hey HN Fam,

We are excited to share Runner with everyone. We have been working on this for the past few months and are super excited to share it with the world.

What makes Runner different than other AI apps / Cowork?

Runner is action oriented -> We have spent a ton of time working on how your task gets interpreted, delegated and passed between your apps to get you what you need. We benchmark it, and ours gets better each week.

Runner remembers -> We have first class built in memory and team memory. This means that each time you use Runner it learns and gets smarter.

Runner runs on your computer -> Runner access the cloud but lives locally. This means that you can do work across Word, Excel, text messages, Apple Reminders, and files on your computer. It’s like an AI superapp with access to your machine and the cloud.

Runner can drive -> Well, it can drive your browser. We have a first class built in MCP server that lets us automate browser tasks for you. This is a game changing and something most people haven’t tried before.

Runner stays connected -> We invested a ton of time into how your connected apps connect and stay connected to make it more fun and easy to work with each day.

Runner automates what can be automated -> Stitch together complex workflows between apps and files and whatever else you need and put them on a schedule. Runner makes sure they run and you get notified when the work is done.

Runner is built with your privacy and security in mind -> We are undergoing final SOC2 audits and are CASA audited. We built your privacy and autonomy in mind and always ask before taking an action the first time.

If you have tried ChatGPT or Claude, or any other AI app, you should give Runner a look and see how its output compares. I promise you won’t be disappointed. We can’t wait for you to give it a try and tell us what you think.

---

Give it a try and let us know.

kentf··on Don't post generated/AI-edited comments. HN is for conversation between humans.
I don't understand the need to use AI for this kind of convo. +1 to this.

This is beautiful. Have you looked at Stephen Wolfram's Physics project?

Reminds me of watching his idea of spacetime coming into existence.

This is really cool. Thanks for building it.
kentf··on Ask HN: What boosted your confidence as a new programmer?
Not knowing how to do it and reading and failing until I figured it out. Repeat for 15 years to become a skilled crafts person.
kentf··on Andrej Karpathy leaves Tesla
I shared a desk with Andrej when he was interning at our lab for the summer at the University of Toronto. One of the smartest people I ever connected with about all CS topics. Hopefully he finds what he is looking for and takes a well earned break.
kentf··on Buttons as Finite Automata
I love computer science.
kentf··on Ask HN: What book changed your life?
Age of Spiritual Machines. Made me want to be a software engineer.
kentf··on Farming Co. Says John Deere Is Monopolizing Repair Market
Nilay Patel had a great interview with John Deere's CTO where he pressed him on the right to repair for farmers. Highly recommend the episode, and all decoder episodes, Nilay is a fantastic reporter and doesn't let his quests squeak away with half answers. https://www.theverge.com/22533735/john-deere-cto-hindman-dec...

kentf··on Heroku's Managed DB's have been down for 2+ hours
Luckily we had followers in different zones by chance. Still scary though. What are the best solutions for replicating Heroku in different clouds?

kentf··on Ask HN: How to attract perm Snr Engs when the contract market is so lucrative?
Have a really bold mission and focus on autonomy and culture.

Senior developers can work anywhere they want. Don’t make the job description about what they will do, but about the impact that will have.

We are hiring Staff and Sr. Engineers at ClearAngel and it’s easier because our mission is so clear and empowering: build the YC 99% of online founders.

The work we are doing will have ripple effects through the economy and through the lives of hundreds of founders.

I spend 90% of the interview talking about that and asking them about what they want.

Then I spend 10 mins on: oh yeah, we use Rails and Python, monolith moving to micro services etc.

Focus on the mission and the culture you will be bringing them into.

Oh and pay them top of market salary and give them meaningful options.

kentf··on ClearAngel – Angel investments and data-driven advice for early EComm and SaaS
We are currently finding Canada, US, UK, AU with more countries coming soon. Good call out, will add to the FAQ.
kentf··on ClearAngel – Angel investments and data-driven advice for early EComm and SaaS
That's the idea. We think that we can really tip the balance for early stage founders. Everyone has a different mountain to climb, we have seen thousands of mountains, and tens of thousands of paths up the different 1000s mountains. We give you a map, and a GPS.

We are planning on having a path for pre-revenue by summer, so definitely get on the waitlist. We process the waitlist on a first come, first serve basis. If we think we can help you, we will make you an offer, and give you access to our data-driven next actions / OKRs.
