kelukelugames··on When hiring senior engineers, you’re not buying, you’re selling
I've paid off my mortgage and am now more open to working on something more altruistic than selling ads for slightly less pay. The problem is I can't find any interesting without a large paycut.
kelukelugames··on They Rejected Us
This isn't some collection of rags to rich story. I know some authors get dozens of rejections over years before being published. This isn't close.
kelukelugames··on Tracking China's Muslim Gulag
Trump demonizes both China and Islam. So I'm not sure what the best play for the Republican party is here. If you praise the Chinese government then that's going too far. But if you criticize them then you have to soften your own Islamophobia.
kelukelugames··on Consensual Hugs Seem to Reduce Stress
I feel like non consensual anything adds stress. One of my least favorite things is being hugged by people I work with and I always feel awkward turning down a co worker.
kelukelugames··on Diaspora: Hello and a big welcome to everyone arriving from Google+
What are the technical challenges of handling an influx of dozens of new users?
kelukelugames··on Google staff walk out over women's treatment
That 75% number is not from the EEOC study. It is something the EEOC study cited. The original is from:

Lilia M. Cortina & Vicki J. Magley, Raising Voice, Risking Retaliation: Events Following Interpersonal Mistreatment in the Workplace, 8:4 J. OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH PSYCHOL. 247, 255 (2003).

kelukelugames··on Google staff walk out over women's treatment
"speaking up" means "not staying silent about harassment."
kelukelugames··on Compare career levels across companies
I just did an interview in Go. I think people have done javascript too.

Sounds like a miscommunication happened somewhere. You should provide feedback to your recruiter.

kelukelugames··on Former Googlers on how they knew it was time to quit
It's a big company. Big company things happen at big companies.
kelukelugames··on Paul Buchheit on Joining Google, How to Become a Great Engineer, and Happiness
I got better when two things happened.

1) Write a lot of code. Like a ton, more than anyone else on the team. 2) Get feedback from people on that code.

kelukelugames··on Former Googlers on how they knew it was time to quit
It's a company with 10s of thousands of people. What did you expect?
kelukelugames··on The cyclist behind an anti-cyclist Facebook group
What the heck is a gun cyclist?
kelukelugames··on What I Learned Working for Steve Ballmer
I can't wait for Ballmer to become the lovable, goofy NBA owner instead of be remembered as the guy who dragged down Microsoft.
kelukelugames··on Job-hopping increases, in possible boon to wage growth and productivity
I just paid off my 720k mortgage in four years.
kelukelugames··on Job-hopping increases, in possible boon to wage growth and productivity
Thanks for pointing that out. I should mention I'm in Seattle.
kelukelugames··on Job-hopping increases, in possible boon to wage growth and productivity
With the exception of Amazon, I haven't received an offer with base pay lower than 150k in a long time. I'm a mid tier SWE at best.

I think people are downvoting out of jealously.

kelukelugames··on Job-hopping increases, in possible boon to wage growth and productivity
lol, reminds me of a twitter thread. A guy said "As a hiring manager, job hopping is a red flag" . Then someone else posted that guy's LinkedIn page, which was a succession of short stings.
kelukelugames··on Harvard University is fighting to keep its admissions process under wraps
Well, tech is hiring from HBCUs now because 1) it's PR and 2) Stanford grads are a finite resource.
kelukelugames··on California law requires businesses to let you cancel your subscription online
Let me clarify. The bank accepted a 7 figure wire transfer but I wasn't allowed to pay the full amount. I had to pay the leftover in person, even after I got the payoff statement.
kelukelugames··on Harvard University is fighting to keep its admissions process under wraps
Many big tech companies made their hiring processes more transparent. Partly because of the call for more diversity in tech. I hope colleges follow suit. Even if the formula is "Rich daddy" + "lacross".
kelukelugames··on California law requires businesses to let you cancel your subscription online
I wish this applied to banks too.

I tried to pay off my mortgage this week and I had to go to a physical bank and handle them a check for seven hundred dollars. So stupid.

kelukelugames··on How Netflix became a billion-dollar titan
I have a job offer with HBO about three years ago. They told me they wanted to become Netflix faster than Netflix became HBO.
kelukelugames··on Using achievement stats to estimate sales on Steam
That's not the consensus from game devs at the moment. Perhaps they are wrong.
kelukelugames··on Booze, Sex, and the Dark Art of Dealmaking in China (2015)
> When I ask friends that have they tell me "oh the stories I could tell" but they don't actually tell.

Well, the first thing I can tell you about us Americans is we make up a lot of stuff to impress people. Look at our president and his tweet about being a best selling author. Happy Fourth!

kelukelugames··on Booze, Sex, and the Dark Art of Dealmaking in China (2015)
lol, the Republicans coined that term. Pretty sure they wouldn't describe visiting prostitutes with your customers as not "politically correct."
kelukelugames··on Using achievement stats to estimate sales on Steam
Makes me sad that Valve keeps on trying to kill Steam Spy.
kelukelugames··on Booze, Sex, and the Dark Art of Dealmaking in China (2015)
In an episode of Billions, they go to a strip club for some full contact lap dances. I met a Wall Street I-banker who went on and on about hooking up with strippers. I wonder how common this is still in the US.
kelukelugames··on Google Engineers Refused to Build Security Tool to Win Military Contracts
Microsoft had a blog post bragging about their work with ICE. But only 300 employees have signed a petition to denounce it.

kelukelugames··on The Age Gap in Religion Around the World
Thank you for calling out the no true scot's man fallacy.
kelukelugames··on The Age Gap in Religion Around the World
On most days, I think people should allow to worship however they want. And then there are days when my government quote the Bible to support laws that are otherwise indefensible.
