kelipso··on Olympic Committee bars transgender athletes from women’s events
Basically proving my point. Very few women in top chess. Currently there are 0 women in top 100 chess players. Only 3 women were ever in the top 100 chess players. And chess is not even a game where men have a natural advantage like in almost all of the physical sports.

See all three medalists.

kelipso··on Olympic Committee bars transgender athletes from women’s events
It will end up being all men at all the skill rating levels.
kelipso··on Slovenian officials blame Israeli firm Black Cube for trying to manipulate vote
Yeah true, these protests raise awareness that the people opposing this stuff are a bunch of non-serious airheads.
kelipso··on Slovenian officials blame Israeli firm Black Cube for trying to manipulate vote
Actual disruptive protests that have actual goals.

Having a roadside party with signs and calling it a protest is just pathetic, ineffective, and embarrassing. These people simply are not serious people.

kelipso··on Slovenian officials blame Israeli firm Black Cube for trying to manipulate vote
The size of these “protests” compared to their complete lack of results proves my point.
kelipso··on Two pilots dead after plane and ground vehicle collide at LaGuardia
Much more obvious solution is to not include overtime pay in the pension calculation.
kelipso··on Ripgrep is faster than grep, ag, git grep, ucg, pt, sift (2016)
I had that happen too recently… Basically rg x would show nothing but grep -r x showed the lines for any x. Tried multiple times with different x, then I kept using grep -r at that time. After a few days, I started using rg again and it worked fine but now I tend to use grep -r occasionally too to make sure.
kelipso··on Iran launched unsuccessful attack on UK's Diego Garcia
It’s resistance against genocide.
kelipso··on Iran launched unsuccessful attack on UK's Diego Garcia
More like normal people who don’t want their country razed by outside forces.
kelipso··on Iran launched unsuccessful attack on UK's Diego Garcia
They only attacked countries that host US bases, correct?
kelipso··on Iran launched unsuccessful attack on UK's Diego Garcia
Seriously. WWII propaganda from multiple countries being compared side by side need to be part of everyone’s high school curriculum.
kelipso··on Iran launched unsuccessful attack on UK's Diego Garcia
These are just propaganda words. Could say the same thing about Israel, US, many countries.
kelipso··on OpenCode – Open source AI coding agent
Even then, you still need to read that code and Rust is way less read friendly than Go.
kelipso··on Wayland set the Linux Desktop back by 10 years?
> The python 2 to 3 situation was a similar colossal mistake of honestly incompetent developers who really enjoy programming in their free time who don't understand that time is money for most people.

It’s been years but even then, this sincerely cannot be repeated enough.

kelipso··on Wayland set the Linux Desktop back by 10 years?
X11 worked fine. Then Wayland came from somebody’s fever dream and forced everyone to use it, just for everyone to encounter some kind of bug every time they do anything slightly off the beaten path. For me literally every new install is some stupid Wayland BS I have to deal with, probably because I use Nvidia drivers, but X11 worked perfectly fine. Wayland should have stayed in the playground as the post says.
kelipso··on Denmark was reportedly preparing for full-scale war with the US over Greenland
Lol. They knew it was lies and they went along with it anyway.
kelipso··on Denmark was reportedly preparing for full-scale war with the US over Greenland
You say NATO defends etc but NATO is fully lead and controlled by the US. Without US permission NATO does not act. And in all likelihood, NATO cannot act without US approval since the US very likely has remote shutdown capabilities for almost every major weapon that NATO countries can deploy.

Joining NATO means you show the US all of your military secrets and basically embed your military into the US military structure.

kelipso··on The strait of Hormuz blockade will strangle US defense industry
Wow, seeing tech manager talk in war context is really something. Finding new and innovative way to kill millions of civilians everyday. I suppose there are real people who do actually do this.
kelipso··on Ask HN: Why is everyone on HN obsessed with Rust?
I think this is the main reason. Dedicated group acting in coordination to comment, post, upvote, downvote is enough to build influence and some type of seeming consensus in a voting based forum like this.
kelipso··on Denmark was reportedly preparing for full-scale war with the US over Greenland
The US is very good at turning a functional state into anarchy, razed buildings and infrastructure, and lots of death. It doesn’t really matter if the US can pacify Denmark after its population gets decimated. It’s pure posturing to pretend any government in the EU or NATO countries will do anything to resist.
kelipso··on Denmark was reportedly preparing for full-scale war with the US over Greenland
Lol there is posturing and there is whatever this is.
kelipso··on Cursor: Frontier Models Moving to Max Mode for Legacy Team/Enterprise Plans
Not sure if Cursor is worth it after this.
kelipso··on Judge orders restoration of Voice of America
Not really. He is just one of many imperial managers.
kelipso··on Python 3.15's JIT is now back on track
Risk my money based on a bunch of wallstreetbets idiots yoloing their money using a random number generator and seeing the word AI on twitter posts, sure lol. I’ll let you play in that cesspool.
kelipso··on Ask HN: What is it like being in a CS major program these days?
Yeah. I see a phrase like “hirable skills” and… it feels like “skills” that are probably going to be outdated every couple of months.
kelipso··on Qatar helium shutdown puts chip supply chain on a two-week clock
Lightning can mess you up in every country lol. Had to replace a PSU because of that, thankfully it was just that and minor damage to GPU.
kelipso··on Dijkstra's Crisis: The End of Algol and Beginning of Software Engineering (2010) [pdf]
Yes, who would say structured programming is bad these days, though maybe it wasn’t a popular sentiment at the time. Though I find this thread funny, “Dijktra was elitist, oh no, he did the gatekeeping, what horror, let’s abandon structured programming and seeing programming as a discipline altogether”.
kelipso··on You can turn Claude's most annoying feature off
This was the first thing I googled when I started using Claude lol.
kelipso··on Iran-backed hackers claim wiper attack on medtech firm Stryker
Because they have nukes unlike Iran.
