keewee7··on Birdwatch, Twitter's collaborative fact checking system
Keep the "diversity of opinion" in the tweets but not in the fact checking.
keewee7··on Birdwatch, Twitter's collaborative fact checking system
Birdwatch is not new but this is new:

>Birdwatch doesn’t work by majority rules. To identify notes that are helpful to a wide range of people, Birdwatch ratings requires agreement between contributors who have sometimes disagreed in their past ratings. This helps prevent one-sided ratings.

This is something Elon Musk tweeted out recently. He seems to think that agreement on topic B by people who previously disagreed on topic A means they must be right on topic B.

>Birdwatch doesn’t work by majority rules. To identify notes that are helpful to a wide range of people, Birdwatch ratings requires agreement between contributors who have sometimes disagreed in their past ratings. This helps prevent one-sided ratings.

This means the political fringes get to decide what is truth. The far-left and far-right disagree on many things but also agree on many things that are bad for the rest of society. Until very recently the anti-EU sentiment in many European countries was high among both the far-left and far-right.

keewee7··on Russia temporarily blocked Telegram yesterday
Russian dissidents don't use Telegram because they think it's in bed with the Kremlin.

The Kremlin fears the Russian hardliners on Telegram who are becoming increasingly unhinged and genocide-mongering.

keewee7··on Robot Framework: generic open source automation framework
The hardware people at my job love it.
keewee7··on Radioactive traces in tree rings reveal Earth’s history of ‘radiation storms’
>yet everything we actually need to survive is intact. There are fruit on trees, water is still flowing and drinkable, boars still roam the forests

This is completely wrong. The natural biomass is not enough to support 7.8 billion people. Without modern industrialized food production the vast majority of people are going to die.

keewee7··on In Defense of Missile Defense
One reason US/Western missile systems are so outrageously expensive is because they're (rural/flyover) job creation programs masquerading as weapons programs.
keewee7··on Largest score declines in NAEP mathematics at grades 4 and 8
Remote learning was a global catastrophe for children's learning.
keewee7··on The Wire retracts its Meta stories
It's a blatant fake news site.
keewee7··on Bizarre interview with Russian sci-fi legend Sergey Lukyanenko
The Russian state media interviewer suggests drowning or burning Ukrainian children who refuse to identify as Russian. Lukyanenko disagrees and instead suggests beating them with sticks.
keewee7··on The HTTP crash course nobody asked for
Thanks for the link! Are there other good crash courses on various protocols and standards? Directly jumping into the dry official specs is just too overwhelmingly sometimes.
keewee7··on India fines Google $162M for anti-competitive practices on Android
Good in theory but Google's Android apps and Google forbidding Indian telcom companies and Chinese smartphone manufactures from installing adwarecrap has made the ultra-cheap smartphone experience somewhat tolerable for hundreds of millions of people. It's all going to be insufferable adware hell from now on.
keewee7··on Declassified US nuclear targets – interactive map
>and we put our guy at its head a couple years ago

>we will bring forth the apocalypse

Your comment is pushing Russian lies about the 2014 revolution in Ukraine and the only one bringing apocalypse closer is Russia.

As a European with many Polish and Ukrainian friends and coworkers I'm happy that libertarian isolationist Americans only have a say on Hacker News and r/Conspiracy. The world would be a worse place if American libertarians had a say in foreign policy.

keewee7··on TypeScript is now officially 10 years old
C# and ASP.NET Core feels like the default stack in Western Europe, even among startups. You have to look harder to find companies using Node.js, Rails, Django etc.
keewee7··on Apple asks suppliers to shift AirPods, Beats production to India
Does India have a vocational training and education system like China and Germany?

You can't build a modern factory with just college-educated engineers and no-skill workers with only primary education. You need skilled workers who have been trained as technicians, PLC programmers, CNC operators etc.

keewee7··on Lowest “Who is hiring?” Post Count in 30 Months
I'm European and I feel there is a certain segment of American libertarians who want a global/European systemic collapse because they feel it validates their views. American libertarians are overrepresented on HN.
keewee7··on Europe: How to Become Poor Peasants Again
Why would the US only blow up one of the two Nord Stream 2 pipelines?

Pipeline B of Nord Stream 2 is unscratched and can deliver 30 billion cubic meter of gas per year.

Gazprom now says that two of three "destroyed" pipelines are now in a stable condition hinting that they can be repaired.

Why would the US only destroy 1/4 of the pipelines?

keewee7··on Gazprom: Nord Stream leaks stop, gas supply could resume on single line
This is the Pipe B of the Nord Stream 2. The pipe's capacity is 37.5 BCM which is almost four times greater than the alternative Norway-Baltic pipelines.

It is very convenient for Russia that the "Anglo-Saxons" forgot to blow up the newest of the four Nord Stream pipelines.

keewee7··on Google is shutting down Stadia
>not market it at all

I noticed that too. Google never adversises its producta. Google is almost like the startup founder who thinks their side project is so good it doesn't need marketing or sales.

keewee7··on Gas Leak in the Baltic Sea
He is trolling pro-Russian people in Poland and Germany who blamed the US from the very beginning without any evidence.
keewee7··on Gas Leak in the Baltic Sea
>Germany recently saw protests by people who wanted to open it, and some politicians saying it needed to be opened

The protests were made up of AfD supporters and Russian/Serbian immigrants, and the the only politicians saying it needs to be opened are from the AfD.

They are not representative of German public and political sentiments.

keewee7··on Gas Leak in the Baltic Sea
Nobody in Germany are blaming "Ukrainian sabotage".

Many are hinting at Russia and some individual AfD politicians on twitter are blaming the US.

keewee7··on Gas Leak in the Baltic Sea
The reason Nord Stream 1 was not in operation is because of, according to Russia, maintenance and because gas demands have still not reached winter levels.
keewee7··on Three Nord Stream gas pipelines damaged in one day
I was addressing your claim that Ukraine is "infinitely better" at propaganda than Russia.
keewee7··on Three Nord Stream gas pipelines damaged in one day
>Ukraine is infinitely better at it than Russia

The garbage Australian report that only looked at two hashtags (who even uses hashtags anymore?) doesn't count.

keewee7··on You don’t understand how bad it could get in Europe this year
Just a reminder that both Fortune and Forbes is now almost entirely made up of sponsored articles that often don't mention who the sponsor is even if the sponsor is a foreign government. The most blatant example of this is the Pakistani government sponsoring an article in Forbes calling Pakistan the best place for solo female travelers.
keewee7··on Volvo is using Rust for its in-vehicle software
A few years ago Volvo could be considered a premium brand but I now see Danish cops replacing their aging VW Passats with Volvos. Not a good sign.

keewee7··on Google CEO tells employees not to ‘equate fun with money’ in heated meeting
Pichai's annual salary is close to $300 million.

I understand the dynamics and inequalities that are inherent in capitalism. However the insane CEO and corporate board member salaries are simply not justifiable.

keewee7··on Signal TLS Proxy
Signal has 100 million installs on Android alone. Arresting people for having Signal installed is not a scalable approach for a totalitarian state.
