From the creator (of Sass) "it's Sass not SASS"

keeran··on Why critics of Rails have it all wrong (and Ruby's bright multicore future)
6 month old flame bait dug up and reaired as more flame bait.
keeran··on Tomorrow Theme
I tried explaining a similar concept to a designer recently - When I use Sublime Text 2 I use the minimap to visually identify sections of code based on their rough shape, and get to learn bits of code or sections of a file purely on its indentation / minimap pattern.
keeran··on Dreamforge (YC S12): Make your own superhero
Cool to see custom toys taking off, http://makie.me launched something similar earlier in the year.
keeran··on Dan Bull: Censored By Copyright For Protesting Being Censored By Copyright

keeran··on Nexus 7, Made for Google Play
I always think 'side' should be in there, but it isn't :)

keeran··on John Carmack is making a virtual reality headset
The hardware kit hes talking about - Oculus RIFT. Kickstarter coming this month!

keeran··on Wallpaper That Blocks Wi-Fi
I thought along similar lines, but with some special texture that made monitors emit some kind of wifi-jamming RF :)
keeran··on WebGL: 80,000 particles

keeran··on This Is 2016 Not 2012
I found http://khanacademy.com extremely helpful when trying to catch up on the math involved in the ml-class / ai-class material.
keeran··on [dead]
If Yehuda cared enough about what I was talking about to pull me up on getting things wrong, I'd be pretty chuffed (after some initial embarrassment sure, but I'd get over it).
keeran··on EveryMe (YC S11) hits the App Store
Congrats on the launch!

Landing page image scaling doesn't handle tall windows very well:

keeran··on Designer of the Porsche 911, Dies at 76
For the hairdressers.
keeran··on How many Apple accounts do you have to remember?
I have one account for all this stuff. I thought this was going to be a post about how everyone else is getting it wrong :)
keeran··on Linode Manager Security Incident
Likewise.

Suspicious events prompted an immediate investigation and the compromised credentials used by this intruder were then restricted
Does that mean the credentials were gained outside of Linode and used to change the root passwords of the accounts for the purposes of the theft, or were those credentials used as part of an exploit in Linodes systems?
keeran··on WIKILEAKS RELEASE: The Global Intelligence Files. Over 5 million emails
The press release (if servers are still being hammered):

keeran··on Humble Bundle Mojam live stream - notch & co. coding for charity
The PeepCode PlayByPlay series do this for development (kinda, it's not live) - very entertaining and informative.

keeran··on Mountain Lion: John Gruber's personal briefing
Some inline context - this appears to be about protecting against malicious software. Was always going to catch flak :)

keeran··on Rails is Definitely Not for Beginners
Building web applications is not for beginners.
keeran··on Ruby Frameworks? Which one? Bye bye Rails.
Would like to hear from people who have taken a user-facing Padrino/Sinatra app all the way through production and into maintenance.

I have a few tiny services and extremely specific apps running on Sinatra, but any time I've needed to expose any kind of richness to the user I've ended up reimplementing in Rails as I kept reaching for things in ActiveSupport / ActionView etc.

At some point I notice myself essentially recreating Rails' structure in my 'lightweight' app and think 'why don't I just use Rails?'.

keeran··on Apple announces iBooks 2, iBooks Author to "reinvent textbooks"
"We wanted to get started with partners early, so we're starting with high school textbooks priced at $14.99 or less. "

keeran··on No New Accounts Today
I would have thought that while the effect was due to Reddit (and others) being down, it was more a case of existing users refreshing for fresh content, rather than potential new users coming to register.

Is there really that much crossover? I need to spend some time seeking HN-esque subreddits perhaps.

keeran··on TinyProj Shuts Down, Users Sent To TechStars GroupTalent
Just scanned the ToS - seems like GroupTalent own the relationship between dev/client for 3 years subject to the client buying them out.

Careful what you agree to if you move over!

keeran··on US Authorities Silence NinjaVideo Founder, Rush Her to Prison
First they came for the torrent site admins...
keeran··on When GitHub kills Open Source
Was this written (conceived) before the new pull requests mech & UI was introduced?

How can the dead end of an ignored patch submission be better than what we have now?

keeran··on Mr. Daisey and the Apple Factory
Brilliant and incredibly sad storytelling.
keeran··on Why I Won't Hire You
Based on the comments in this thread I think I'm glad HN has taken his server down ;)
