keeptrying··on Even after $100B, self-driving cars are going nowhere
Tesla is far ahead on their ability to train a myriad number of heavy AI models (computer vision) at the same time.

That asset will probably be worth far more than the self driving system.

keeptrying··on Everything I wish I had known about raising a seed round
He got funded because: He was a Prof CS at Harvard.

He did hit on the most imp point: be confident in your pitch.

Like 200% more confident than you are about anything.

I can’t overemphasize this. This is more important than anything else.

keeptrying··on Intel plans thousands of job cuts in face of PC slowdown
Used to work at Intel campus on previous job with another company.

No one really worked and would go home early.

It was really weird.

keeptrying··on Learn Exponentially
This article is about memorizing more effectively not learning.

To learn, you need to act and have the world give you feedback.

If you’re starting a company, you need to create something and get feedback on its value and iterate.

keeptrying··on Sridhar Vembu built Zoho by questioning the conventional wisdom
Not even India. Indian villages; essentially a different planet.

He trains them for $3000 for 2 years and then probably pats them $10k per year for first 2 years or less.

keeptrying··on Sridhar Vembu built Zoho by questioning the conventional wisdom
50% net profit Margins - amazing.

Can confidently say theres no business in the US at that scale ($600M+ revenue) with those margins. Ridiculous.

There doesn't seem to be much literature in estimating gross profit margin.

keeptrying··on A Positive Amyloid Trial, Finally?
A bit too many brain bleeds in the sideffects for my liking. :-/
keeptrying··on Ask HN: Do I have a chance to get into FAANG as a slow thinker?
$400k for an senior software engineer.

There is a market for leetCode - unforutnately or not - you have to accept it.

keeptrying··on Ask HN: Do I have a chance to get into FAANG as a slow thinker?
Very true. Practice for 3 months and you’ll know 90% of the solutions cold.

For a salary of $700k - staff - it’s easily worth it

keeptrying··on Evolving my note-taking processes
I find writing and journaling in a real book much more therapeutic.

If you buy an executive notebook and a really nice flowing pen like the G2, it’s a pleasurable practice.

Once I have it written down I feel much less stressed. I’ve never felt hat way about online notetsking

keeptrying··on Accounting for Developers, Part II
Thanks!
keeptrying··on Accounting for Developers, Part II
Love the simplicity of their system but don't like the price tag.

Anyone know of cheaper alternatives to ModernTreasury.com ?

Funtionality needed: ledger + integration with payments.

keeptrying··on To Become Wise, Do Less
Read to the end of the list. /smh
keeptrying··on To Become Wise, Do Less
Because Elon, Gates, Carmack, Eintstein , Feynman, Bezos, Sheryl Sandberg, Buckminister, Darwin did less.

Right.

keeptrying··on Ask HN: Is living in NYC worth it?
Yes! Lived there 7 years.

You can’t compare SF or any city in the US to NYC.

Sf and the bay is a boring piece of suburbia that shouldn’t be inflicted on anyone before 35.

Go .. run!

keeptrying··on Tell HN: I interviewed my dad before he died
Thank you for reminding me to interview my mom.

Unfortunately my dad isn’t at a place where I can do this.

This is a super important thing to connect with my parents.

keeptrying··on Archive of Visualized Concepts
The vast majority of people on this site love being shown either a new idea or an old idea expressed differently.

These diagrams provide that little shot of that creative emotion which is fun.

Don't know how useful it is but I "feel" like I learn something from either the way a concept has been portrayed or a genuine new juxtaposition of ideas.

keeptrying··on Take more screenshots
Everything changes.

Your access to a website could change or the server could go down or a website may get bought.

Good reason to keep taking screenshots.

There have been dozens of times I ve been saved by a screenshot.

- insurance cards on phone - a random screenshot I took of a photo of my citizenship certificate saved me 2 weeks For travel - names of peopel - context during a call

keeptrying··on I should have loved biology
Western methods are very inferior. They work - in the same way that roller blades work for transportation but you'd really rather have a car. I've studied and used both.

Everything you need is in this link: https://twitter.com/nickcammarata/status/1471300341232668679

The capacity for joy at any point of time is infinite - that was revelation for me. Ability to access it - changes everything.

keeptrying··on I should have loved biology
the western medicine solutions are useless.

Eastern techniques seem to be much more practically useful for handling mental health tecniques.

keeptrying··on I should have loved biology
I have always wanted to learn medicine slowly - over years. So I read medical text books slowly over years.

I find it amazing that we give so much agency to doctors over our health while we know relatively very little about our own bodies and health.

And biology is a big part of that learning.

I now study medical books on my soare time.

Would recommend “Clinical Methods” as your first foray. You will understand your doctor and the biology is immediately applicable in your Daily life. Ie how to deal with fevers in your kids.

After that learn about your skeletal system and biomechanics.

Next Neuro degenerative disease and the brain.

Once you’ve caught the learning bug, you can go into 1st year Med School curricula and then the rest from there.

Some big parts of medicine is relatively useless - psychology for example.

Would recommend learning meditation ina real way and reading “Right Concentration.”. Learning about jhanas and mental states.

I remember as a kid when they asked me what I wanted to do, I never understood why I couldn’t do all of the above.

keeptrying··on India's largest stock broker has 30 devs (2020)
In most VC companies you'll be forced to hire fast as a way to show progress.

CEOs and even some CTOs don't understand how productivity can be lost by adding too many people too fast.

I've known of instances where managers have been pushed out because they didn't hire fast enough.

The amount of money wasted due to stupid things like this is incredible.

keeptrying··on Longitudinal cohort study of the displacement of teaspoons (2005)
Butter knives seem to stay forever, since no one really uses them.

Then spoons.

Forks being the most useful, seem to disappear the fastest.

keeptrying··on Ask HN: Any certification that is worth it? Legitimately helped your career?
Having gone to one of the best schools in India has certainly helped me.
keeptrying··on My startup is broken
Do you mean that corporate types ask thee wrong questions - “how much vacation do I get” or don’t ask questions at all?
keeptrying··on Ask HN: Single-person creations that have stood the test of time?
SPICE layout tool?
keeptrying··on Many surprise medical bills are now illegal
A friend once had a an emergency appendix removed and was hit with a $10000 bill because doctor was out of network. Ridiculous.
keeptrying··on Ask HN: What are you learning about?
Meditate and chant. Look up SGI Buddhism or lookup Jhanas. Very different but both solid pathways.

You’ll learn more than from any book.

I would never have believed it until I tried. You can’t reason yourself into mental health but you can silence and focus yourself into it.

WRT mental health Buddhism has forgotten more than what western science has figured out.

keeptrying··on The Price of Discipline
You definitely need a source. I would not say it was anything you mentioned.

In one case it was just sheer ambition but he wasn’t poor to begin with and in the other it was practicing a religion focusses on positive thinking which she adopted that also buikt her determination.

It is interesting to juxtapose with Agassi and The William sisters.

These two people are also on the top 0.1% Of their respective disciplines.

keeptrying··on The Price of Discipline
Better title: The price of not choosing discipline.

The article assumes discipline needs to be forced on you. Which is false.

The few people I know who have been able to build self discipline on their own are immensely successful.

It seems to comes from an extreme form of self determination.
