kcbanner··on Open Source Hardware Hearing Aid Part 1
Ah, interesting! Thanks!
kcbanner··on Open Source Hardware Hearing Aid Part 1
> No way I can get that kind of money, so I gave up on that idea.

I'm curious if the Tympan solution has done this testing? What is the perceived downside to not doing human testing on what is presumably going to be a hobby project?

How does third parties disassembling and reselling parts equate to licensing a cpu design?
kcbanner··on Canada to ban keeping whales, dolphins in captivity
A few paragraphs in:

"Whales and dolphins that are already in captivity will be grandfathered in by the bill, meaning parks can keep all the animals they currently own."

How is this any different from paid reviews.

Wouldn't a subset describe that?

Yep, I both enjoyed it and found inspiration for a project. Thank you for your awesome blog!

You can reconfigure the keybindings however you'd like, on any version.

That would make sense, because for a game to be popular it would have to have a consistent viewership; something you wouldn't have with a single playthrough story based game. I think that story based games are very popular in the short term when they come out, but then die off (because most streamers have played them before their audiences). I think OP's point is valid.

Check out dedicated-mode, it sets the "dedicated" flag on a buffer so that things don't use it for their temporary output.

It's not really up to you to decide if a puzzle is mundane for all players. Maybe it was for you, but there was a real aha moment for me on some of those puzzles.
kcbanner··on End to End Learning for Self-Driving Cars [pdf]
"Nvidia is one of the main reasons my computers, I do not want this true of my cars as well." If this was a joke I think the grammatical error led to confusion?
kcbanner··on Never trust the client
I think you might be misunderstanding the scope of an "input". It's something like "the player pressed the key/button that maps to move forward", not "move to position X". Teleport hacks wouldn't be possible in the former case because the player has to actually move their avatar to the desired position by traversing the game world through a series of inputs. The server would then process the movement inputs, and the avatar would say, bump into a wall, preventing it's movement. There would be no input for "my position is now X".

Why do companies insist on disabling the youtube controls when embedding. I want to turn the volume down but I have to copy the URL and watch on youtube instead.
kcbanner··on WINE 1.9.4 Released
There wouldn't really be a big advantage to that I think. The whole point of Vulkan is to give more control to the application developer (submit work from multiple threads, etc).
kcbanner··on How I fixed a bug in Atom
I am still unsure why anyone uses Atom when it consumes so many resources. The emacs instance I have had open for some time now is using 92Mb. Atom instances have been reported in the hundreds of megabytes [1]. Of course, this is because it is actually a web application running in an entire browser, renderer and helper processes included.

I understand the need for people to be able to "easily" hack on it (easily in quotes here because really that just means "people who know web languages"), but that goal could still be accomplished in a native application that embedded a JS runtime for plugins.

kcbanner··on Show HN: Super Wizard Fever – A retro style infinite runner for Android
Hi everyone! I've been working on my first Android game in my off time from my day job as a game dev, and I've finally released it. I was inspired by games like Canabalt, but wanted to put my own twist on the genre. The gameplay is simple but challenging (I can't even beat the current highscores on the leaderboard, dangit!).

I have full Google Play Games integration with leaderboards and achievements.

I'd love to get some more feedback!

kcbanner··on Don't copy paste from a website to a terminal
Keep in mind that if the paste buffer includes a newline, everything preceding that newline will be executed. Pasting into an intermediate buffer, like a text editor, would be advisable.
kcbanner··on Unreal Engine 4.10 is Released
How is it sad? Everyone is learning how to build a better game engine. Are you suggesting that the same pull requests should have been made against an open source game engine? No open source game engine comes close to UE4 in feature set.

kcbanner··on CodePush by Microsoft
You could, and still are, able to download html/javascript/css to the phone, and then load those files in a web view.
kcbanner··on CodePush by Microsoft
Wrong. Many apps that have been in the app store for years use this technique. Apple in fact explicitly allows this.
