kateho··on Google Cloud vs. AWS Onboarding Comparison
my understanding is that GCP has recently changed their startup programme. I applied a few weeks ago, and had the same bad service as the OP.
kateho··on Launch HN: Finmark (YC S20) – Financial planning software for startups
If you take out the startup bit, something like Float app feels more useful since it connects with Xero and can do some of the scenario planning too: https://floatapp.com/
kateho··on Show HN: Lemonade – the world's first P2P insurance company
I have to say, I'm pretty excited by this. Mutual insurance companies have existed for a good while, but they're not easy to find. Having one that's married to great tech definitely makes me want to use it.
kateho··on Show HN: Lemonade – the world's first P2P insurance company
I'd agree with that. There's a general feeling that people are surprised when their insurance companies pay out/cover some big cost (like rot), rather than it just being part of life. That says something about how much we trust existing insurance companies.
kateho··on Project Murphy – An imaginative bot answering “What-if” questions
Just typed in 'What if robots ruled the world?'

No reply after 10mins ... shouldn't I get some sort of error handling/user expectation management if it's a question that can't be answered by Murphy?

kateho··on But Where Do People Work in This Office?
As much as it pains for me to say it, I do think small, quiet 1-2 person offices are great for thinking and getting real work done. I believe the IDEO offices in the Bay Area have a combination of a centralised area for discussions and collaboration, but a set of smaller offices for more focused work time. Something which would actually be quite nice to see more of ...
kateho··on Show HN: Supercharge GitHub with ZenHub
+1 on the comment.

I'd still give it a spin though. We've been looking for a way to make github work better for us, and this looks like it's going to hit the mark.

kateho··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (July 2014)
Ginsberg - Edinburgh, Scotland, Full Time Head of User Acquisition, Project Ginsberg

We’re looking to complete our team by hiring a Head of User Acquisition to drive and execute our strategy around building a world-class mental wellbeing service for the Scottish population.

Key tasks are the planning and execution of our public beta launch plan and driving users to a number of smaller products that might be part of our product suite. Your ultimate success criteria is the number of relevant users that arrive at and activate our services.

We’re a data driven project: part of your responsibility is to identify and quantify the most appropriate acquisitions channels for reaching our target users.

Very competitive pay. Get in touch through kate at project-ginsberg.com see: https://www.project-ginsberg.com/blog/were-hiring-looking-fo...

kateho··on Miracle health device crowdfunds $730k, but might be bullshit
I just tried to get a refund, but realised that indiegogo doesn't hold funds like kickstarter do.

I understand that its my own fault for not waiting, but if Indiegogo doesn't do anything about this, I think their reputation could get quite badly damaged ...

kateho··on To the Girls of HackerNews: I am a Female Founder who Codes
Well, that's cool. While I totally get the point of what the OP was trying to do (and it's awesome trying to be make female coders/founders more visible), I have to confess that as a fellow 'girl of HackerNews', I think the title could be less leading and a bit more constructive.

There are other female founders out there that code. I'm sorry to say that you're not the first, nor the last. It's about how we get MORE female founders and female coders to increase the diversity of the startup world.

(Incidentally, I'm female, a startup founder and I code. )

kateho··on Ask HN: How do you manage your sales leads?
+1 for Pipedrive.
kateho··on Not Wanted
I second that. I was just about to email Nate to ask him how he would deal with this issue but struggling to articulate it. Thanks!
kateho··on PrimeSense bought by Apple for $345M
This makes a lot of sense especially if Apple wants to move Apple TV on. Lots of TV manufacturers like Samsung has gesture navigation implemented already.

This should be exciting.

kateho··on Stop participating in hackathons just to win
What should really happen is for hackathons to stop awarding prizes. There's no need for them. Most people go to hackathons because they want to meet people, try new things and learn stuff.
kateho··on Ask HN: Good iPad apps for children to help with learning?
[shameless plug]

We build collaborative educational games on the iPad. You should check out Equator (https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/equator-2-player-problem-sol...).

kateho··on My startup story
It's a real shame to hear this story. I met Toni back in 2010 at a mobile event called MEX and thought the concept was super exciting. It's a shame this happened... I hope the team go on to do bigger and better things.
kateho··on Show HN: iPad game to help toddlers with Autism
Awesome. Please pass on any comments/feedback. We'd love to hear from her.
kateho··on Show HN: iPad game to help toddlers with Autism
It was designed by autism researchers based at the Univ of Edinburgh so its pretty pedagogically sound.

Direct link is: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/findme-autism/id491925436?ls=...

Also, the app is done in Cocos2D, but we might rebuild it in Unity and release it onto android if there's a demand for it ...
