karlp··on Do It Yurtself
But the problem is this is not DIY, it's professional work, the word is being abused for some purpose.

> He has a do it yurtself website w/ all the fancy content, presumably he's planning on selling that.

Not surprised

Negroponte was DNI when Epstein was on trial, it makes no sense.
karlp··on When I Took My Zipcar Into the Wilderness
This assumes the battery is fully charged, if it's cold or if the battery is slightly defective, it could be a lot less than full charge.
karlp··on Software was eating the world – now landlords are eating everything
And like Java you might have to take San Francisco just because that's where the money is.
karlp··on WiringPi – deprecated
It may surprise some people on HN, but for most people in the world, changing jobs is a hard thing to do. And yes middle managers can be that petty.
karlp··on Activision Blizzard has moved billions of dollars of profit into tax havens
Well, I don't know if you have seen the places where politicians have neither money nor power, but it's not pretty.
karlp··on The Glorious, Profitable, Inescapable Art of Addiction
Plenty of games have less than 10h of gameplay, and an even bigger amount of games have less than 10h of non grind gameplay. Portal is a good example
karlp··on The Glorious, Profitable, Inescapable Art of Addiction
Then you could get games that are long for no reason

That doesn't seem right, even the "Smash Bros" community has a culture, hell people talk about the YouTube community all the time.

Also, soundcloud gave rise to Soundcloud rapper movement and more broadly has been important in the hip-hop community, I don't think it's a good example

Sodium is a highly reactive material pure though, while abundant it's just not easy to work with. You can't compare elements easily it seems
karlp··on Chinese border guards put secret surveillance app on tourists' phones
It's illuminating that even on Hacker News, the first two comment are "It's old news" and "They don't do too much". Even here public perception on surveillance is changing.
karlp··on Hospitalized in Split – Intoxication
Well, there is a reason why infant mortality is so low in western countries, so you can imagine pretty big.
karlp··on I was seven words away from being spear-phished
A compromised Cambridge url gives a lot of credence to their claim though, especially with the paranoid coinbase developer they were targeting.

karlp··on Things I learnt the hard way in thirty years of software development
> Write steps as comments with a higher level language, and write code instead of comments, and have fun developing what you think is the product you need.

Hard disagree on that, there is nothing more annoying than reading code without plain comments, it's always less obvious than the original developer thought and the worst is that it always happen to your own code

karlp··on Penn Jillette fasts 23 hours a day to maintain his 100lb weight loss
> But eventually I realized this has to become my mother-effing lifestyle if I want to keep looking that way.

This is so true, people judge you for not looking like a Hollywood actor (whether you're a man or a woman) but don't realize what it costs to look that way
