karakoram··on Socialism's Positive Rating Tops 40% for First Time
I find the farmers to be the funniest. Like without their stimmy cheques and subsidies they'll all be homeless. For some reason not many farmers call this socialism.

karakoram··on The University Degree Is Losing Its Lustre
> A striking new analysis by economists José Azar, Mireia Giné and Javier Sanz-Espín finds that, after climbing for decades, the wage premium for college graduates in the US has fallen in every one of the past four years. The total drop is almost 10 per cent — its first sustained decline since the 1970s.

Obviously quality in terms of governance encompasses a multitude of things. In the case of Singapore, higher pay has always protected against corruption.

Cultural nuances have to be factored in. In Asia and particularly Asian politicians, corruption was/is a huge problem so Lee Kuan wanted to address the issue at its root.

karakoram··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
Very good point. In the UK, the NHS is on the same level as a religion.

The NHS can NOT be meddled with whatsoever.

Complete political suicide.

karakoram··on Which universities pay their faculty the most?
Interesting. Expected MIT to be at No.1.

I guess the symbiotic relationship of Princeton and IAS has something to do with this.

karakoram··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
In all seriousness, this would be a massive stimulus to the economy. Americans are consumers at heart. All the money saved on insurance and/or other healthcare related costs would then be spent elsewhere.

Cars, clothes, TVs, Labubu dolls. People will use the savings to buy things. In massive quantities.

karakoram··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
>A single-payer universal health care system could cover every American, save more than 100,000 lives a year, and still cost $1 trillion less than the system it would replace, according to a new preprint study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health.
