what a show!

k_vi··on Show HN: TaskBotJS – TypeScript and JavaScript background job processing
I'm using Kue heavily and so far had no problems using it. Can you elaborate on 'pre-ES6 universe' or any other issues you had with it?
k_vi··on Techniques for vertical storytelling
Cartoon and comics is the other thing I truly love. Its so satisfying to just space out and get immersed in it.

I've been primarily a consumer but I really wish I could create good art.

k_vi··on The best employees are not the agreeable ones
The best I've worked with have a knack for presenting making their contrary ideas agreeable.

While the jerks assume they are being attacked for their beliefs, the smart ones understands the value of group effort.

k_vi··on Chatbots were the next big thing: what happened?
I actively use chatbots on Telegram, but not so much on messenger. Telegram bots are predictable compared to messenger which relies heavily on NLP.
k_vi··on Ask HN: Tips for getting your first remote gig?
My last startup failed and I was actively seeking some remote work so I could have some time to work on personal projects and pay my bills. Even after one month I never got any offers, mostly because people couldn't trust me(had no blog, no social media. just an old GitHub profile).

I applied for several fixed-price jobs from UpWork and Freelancer(mostly preferred UpWork). Clients were generally happy with my work but hated the tiring process.

Luckily one of the projects did really well and I took up the offer to work with the client full time. I still work with the same client, love the work, the pay is really good(considering my PPP-India) and I get enough time to work on my side projects.

Soon after UpWork decided to suspend my account, never fought back even though I knew I did nothing wrong.

Now when I say I have previous remote work experience I generally get a good response.

k_vi··on Extracting the private key from a TREZOR with an oscilloscope (2015)
trezor or ledger?
k_vi··on Behind the Messy, Expensive Split Between Facebook and WhatsApp’s Founders
Facebook having access to your contacts and maybe location too is still scary.
k_vi··on SSH vs. OpenVPN for Tunneling
SSH tunnel as proxy is easier and simpler to use if you have a VPS.

Setup the tunnel: ssh -D 8080 vv@xx.xx.xx.xxx

Change your system proxy settings: Socks proxy, 127.0.0.1, 8080

Done!

k_vi··on Bottery – A conversational agent prototyping platform
So this is a more developer friendly version of AIML?
k_vi··on Ask HN: Will We Get Close to a General AI in 2017?
"It may be evidence of greater difficulty, but not of impossibility"
k_vi··on Ask HN: What is your favorite internet rabbit hole?
This is deep, never gets boring - http://textfiles.com/
k_vi··on Modern science and Chinese philosophy tell us about how we think (2014)
I guess that in hierarchical structures of companies there is a varying degree of using(ACC/lateral PFC). Probably people higher up in the structure should have mastered having a strong PFC than ACC, people in the lower structure are like the ox-butchers, who ideally should have mastered one or few tasks which might not be so easy for people handling many tasks together.
k_vi··on Slow Motion Video of a Speed Solve of a Rubik's Cube
I wonder if they have an algorithm solving the cube with 20 moves for any combination, if not Rubik's cube solution optimisation with a longer time limit could be a more interesting competition than speed solving.
k_vi··on WeChat Impact Report 2016 – latest data about Chinese social media
Is there any way I can ascertain the validity of the report? Although it says "Translated from Tenscent penguin intelligence and China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), 2016 WeChat impact report", I wanted to make sure.

Is there possibly a link to original source?

k_vi··on Voxel art
"Error establishing a database connection."
k_vi··on Show HN: Swift and VR – Google Cardboard Ported to Swift and iOS
what is the limiting factor with Cardboard VR? Is it possible to improve frame rates of Cardboard to 90fps(like Occulus) with better hardware alone?
k_vi··on We Cooked a Peacock
no, bald eagles are not radioactive.
k_vi··on 10 examples that show Sales Experts are the new Pick Up Artists
Now I'm curious as to how much sale the author will make. $4200 per "tuition".
k_vi··on Comcast injects JavaScript into webpages to show copyright notices to customers
This might not be relevant to the topic(I don't use Comcast), but Im curious how web elements are forced to be overlay consistently across all websites, doesn't the existing css properties on the page affect the behaviour of the injected scripts?
k_vi··on Comcast injects JavaScript into webpages to show copyright notices to customers
It is possible to run VPN on a host using a socks proxy. It is easy with something called "ssh tunneling".
k_vi··on How Apple Is Giving Design a Bad Name
The aritcle is just vaguely describing user experience from a "first time user" point of view, which is clearly wrong, like someone is going to throw away his idevice after his first use. As a counter-point this might be true for websites or even some kind of apps, but not really for a device that is going to be your everyday thing.

I've been a regular user of windows and linux and while back, until I switched to a Mac a while back. It took some time tinkering and reading to get used to it, but once I got the hang it has become really productive - some gestures like three finger drag, switch panes, two finger tap to double click are some time savers.
