kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on Trump exempts phones, computers, chips from ‘reciprocal’ tariffs
He's been talking about tariffs since before the election, so they likely were anticipating it.

> Weirdly the same explanation works if you're being less uncharitable

Annoyingly, "assume the worst about people, especially those on the opposite side of the political spectrum" seems to be the norm these days.

kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on White House Says Gold Reserves May Be Used to Purchase Bitcoin
I can't decide if this administration is purposely trolling, or of the trolling is a byproduct. Either way, they seem to reliably trigger everyone on the left, and a few on the right, too.
kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on This is no world for an axolotl
3 cows a week is an insane amount of food. Most I can manage is 1.75, but my average is 1.1. Which is actually quite nice, because that's about the most I can comfortably fit in my monster truck.
kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on Athena landed in a dark crater where the temperature was -280° F / -173° C
> Are you making the argument that anyone with enough money should be able to do whatever they want on the moon?

No, I'm making the argument that anyone who invests the time and money into landing on the moon isn't doing it for giggles and the joy of littering.

And let's be real, if we found "space junk" on the moon of an alien planet, we'd be thrilled as heck, so perhaps we're just seeding the moon with artifacts for alien races.

Also, little atmosphere means the sun doesn't heat up the area like in your house. Once you're out of the sunlight, it's darn cold.

Well, there's a natural barrier to entry, i.e. it costs millions on dollars and years of time to be able to "crash" your "junk" onto the surface. So it's not like a bunch of hobby rocketeers are throwing away their McDonald's garbage.

By the way, in comparison to the cost and complexity of said "junk", everything you own is cluttering up the Earth. You should really do something about that.

kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on The shrouded sinister history of the bulldozer
More regulation, of course. It's worked so well for guns, after all. Because making more laws prevents people who disregard laws from breaking other laws.

Really, we should just cut to the chase and outlaw murder.

kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on A DOGE staffer appears to be posting DOGE work on his public GitHub
Point of contention - according to a recent YouGov[1] poll, 48% of respondents think DOGE should be kept or expanded, while only 37% think it should be reduced or eliminated. A far cry from 90% either direction. You may be subject to confirmation bias.

kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on 'The tyranny of apps': those without smartphones are unfairly penalised
People should instead just vote with you feet and dollars. That'll be inconvenient, but if it bothers you enough, you'll make the effort.

A crucial part of this approach is to let your doctor know exactly why you're leaving. If they're losing business over it, they'll look for alternatives. And if the EHR company loses money, they'll look to make changes, too.

I found "Natural Navigator" by Tristan Gooley to be a fascinating read with a lot of good ways to train your navigation skills without instruments.

kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on Eggs US – Price – Chart
Didn't grow up with chickens, but have had them for 8 years now. Easiest pet I've ever owned, and they provide eggs. Haven't seen a weed in the yard in years. They'll decimate a garden bed, though.
kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on Google removes pledge to not use AI for weapons from website
Unfortunately, the only way to keep things "fair" and "equitable" so nobody revolts is to reduce everything to the lowest common denominator.

In other words, everything would be terrible, but at least it'd be terrible for everyone.

Until we realized we could sacrifice some for the betterment of the rest, find a way to rationalize it, and then we throw it all out the window.

Honest question: would the margin have been sufficient if the outcome was reversed? Would you be understanding of their position if Republicans had the same feelings and ideas of resistance if roles were reversed?

kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on A story on home server security
> every stud finder in existence these days

Slightly pedantic point of order: you mean to say every stud finder for sale these days, not in existence, for the old stud finders still exist.

Okay, that's all. Carry on.

kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on US newspapers are deleting old crime stories, offering subjects a 'clean slate'
That seems exceptionally high, and I'm assuming the study was mostly (all?) urban subjects, which could skew the results heavily. I can't think of more than 2 people I know that have an arrest history, and I know a LOT of (non-urban dwelling) people.

kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on The Year of McDonald's
At all the McDonald's I've been to recently, you can still walk in with cash, give your order to a human, and walk out with a bag of food. You don't have to use the app. You don't have to use the touchscreens.
kQq9oHeAz6wLLS··on The Year of McDonald's
The stunt worked because there's some controversy over the ability to verify Harris worked at a McDonald's as she stated. Trump very publicly worked there for a day to sort of rub it in. He was trolling her, and it appears to have worked.
