justanothersys··on Evaluating AGENTS.md: are they helpful for coding agents?
i definitely have gone so far as to treat my llm readable docs in this way and have found it very effective
justanothersys··on $Lei – Aesthetic Computer
I'm working on a playful lisp interpreter for mobile friendly use and here is a little example url.
justanothersys··on Catalog of Novel Operating Systems
cool list! i make something web based like this called https://aesthetic.computer
justanothersys··on Ask HN: What are you working on (September 2024)?
i'm writing https://aesthetic.computer which is a 'social computer' designed as a more open and integrated alternative to existing kids media networks like roblox and tiktok

recently discussed here on hn: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41526754

and i'm currently seeking funding to support another year of development (just enter the command 'bb')

justanothersys··on Ask HN: Platform for 11 year old to create video games?
you can use my aesthetic.computer vscode extension for quick publishing of interactive pieces that work on phones and laptops just the same
justanothersys··on Notepat – Aesthetic Computer
hey thanks so much for all the info, i will apply some of these concepts to 'notepat' - technically there is encoding ability like if you enter 'notepat twinkle' it takes you through a monophonic track and i have a little syntax for that - you can also 'tape notepat' to record a video - i really enjoy playing it on my tiny unihertz jelly star android phone which is part of the 4 buttons per row design
justanothersys··on Notepat – Aesthetic Computer
they are sculptures i made in the oculus browser using a webvr tool on the site
justanothersys··on Notepat – Aesthetic Computer
they are generated in a web AudioWorklet on a per sample basis https://github.com/whistlegraph/aesthetic-computer/blob/main...

you can use the up and down arrow keys in 'notepat' and press the '/' key to see the waveform output and increase or decrease the sample size to better visualize them

justanothersys··on Notepat – Aesthetic Computer
if you tap the '-' key on ur keyboard it shows an overlay in red and green with the steps down and up which i've been using as a transposition aid
justanothersys··on Notepat – Aesthetic Computer
u can enter 'notepat twinkle' after tapping notepat in the corner to actually run through that melody
justanothersys··on Myths about platform engineering: what it is and what it isn't

justanothersys··on Emacs used as a message router in Germany's ATC systems in the 1990s (2021)
i run emacs inside the terminal in vscode so i can have a terminal multiplexer with vim shortcuts clipboard sharing and other weird integrations :)
justanothersys··on Picotron Is a Fantasy Workstation
i've been writing an interface like this called aesthetic.computer and trying to work out a full stack for it - i love the ideas in your writing
justanothersys··on Ask HN: What have you built with LLMs?
i built autosuggestions / catch all prompt responses on https://aesthetic.computer and you can also talk to characters like boyfriend, girlfriend, husband and wife. characters are great for kids and older users who really wouldn't experience the tech otherwise.
justanothersys··on Netflix: Piracy is difficult to compete against and growing rapidly
good, i prefer the old internet
justanothersys··on Ask HN: Did any of you first encounter programming through Scratch?
this is what i'm designing aesthetic.computer for!
justanothersys··on TikTok is scary good. It's digital crack
i run a tiktok page with 2.1m followers - not huge but mid-level, and it's seriously impacted my mental health
justanothersys··on Portrait vs. Landscape – more than meets the eye
honestly the real sadness here is that apertures don't project rectangles and all photos should just be fuzzy circles with a focal point
justanothersys··on Mario Paint Masterpiece
my game https://nopaint.art takes a lot of inspiration from mario paint and kid pix
justanothersys··on uxn: a portable 8-bit virtual computer
why thank you
justanothersys··on Making Your Own Tools
Beautifully put. Do you have a community where you talk about this stuff?
justanothersys··on uxn: a portable 8-bit virtual computer
Yeah this is exactly why I came up with whistlegraphs. I was doing a lot of thinking about how to define a VM for dynamic graphics and drawing and then realized I could start to specify things at a much higher level of abstraction before ever needing the computer. justanothersys··on The Art of Mathematics in Chalk
of course it's you
justanothersys··on Ask HN: Best Talks of 2020?
I loved this!
justanothersys··on Why We're Building Observable
I also found Observable and spent a week or so rebuilding https://nopaint.art in it! I really liked how you could export a Notebook and it would pull in all the dependencies to make a SPA. I think it would be such a beautiful way to develop my software with other people. (Edit: I only built a prototype that has not been released, but I still believe it would be viable over the current game engine I'm using, especially for collaboration.)
justanothersys··on Eight Years at Roblox
Roblox is really culturally interesting for kids. So much of my TikTok audience plays Roblox and I tried making some games in there but the tooling and UX has a lot of friction. I loved reading this post though and feel happy that things will improve in the future. Roblox is huge!
justanothersys··on Getting Users Is Hard
Get TikTok - it worked for me!
justanothersys··on Coding and drawing
I've been doing a lot of scored drawing pieces, where I draw the same marks in a certain order within a certain timeframe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6n4FpHbqZs

This is a sentiment close to my heart.

justanothersys··on Crab – an interpreter for a tiny subset of Logo
A cute implementation! I really love Logo / that whole aesthetic of the early versions... I like the slowness of building a picture that way, and I like the interactive development process. It's much closer to a video game kind of experience.
justanothersys··on Desktop Means Web
Yeah this resonates a lot with me as much as I'd like to disagree. I know of course as the author points out, there are exceptions in other domains, like video games or voice platforms in particular, and as a developer I understand that but as a consumer I don't really know what to think anymore.
