junaru··on Serious security breach hits EU police agency
I would encourage everyone to use translate on https://blackmap.org/ and judge for themselves.

In my humble opinion its just a politically charged map where everyone not sharing the same political affiliation are being doxxed. I can read a bit Cyrillic and the language is informal and full of prejudice, stuff like:

> sniched so hard he got recognised by the regime

And the link leads to https://t.me/nexta_tv/21342 where the text translates:

> Cops began to reward informers with certificates. This is done in order to encourage Christianity.

> The regime cultivates the worst in people. No one likes informers and traitors, but for the junta they are useful fools who help them in the war against the people.

> It was such "Stakhanovites" as Anatoly Bambiza, who received a certificate for denunciations of BCH flags in windows, who betrayed Jews and partisans to the Nazis. Everyone knows what awaited them at the end of the war.

> So a jar of jam and a pack of cookies from punishers is a mark, as well as state awards to rapists and propagandists. When Lukashenko plays in the box, such a letter certainly does not bode well.

This is neither civil nor objective and just illustrates the pettiness of both sides.

Comments like yours do that for me. Every day we suspend several WP sites for failing to put basic captcha on their contacts page that results in the form being abused for email bombing.

Maybe on meeting 27 they will put the damn thing on and save themselves the headache of getting out of RBLs.

If theres one thing WP developers cant write its contact forms! :)

P.S. Wordpress is fine in general.

junaru··on I used to not worry about climate change. Now I do [video]
> Jevon's Paradox

This looks to support my argument as its indeed what is happening and what is causing emissions to go up (less developed nations industrialising) due to technology trickling down. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

> My own view is that the paradox makes the idea of population reduction moot

Lets use math and assume all pollution comes from end users who can afford/drive cars (~20%) and ignore the rest of modern civilisation and set current efficiency of 1x.

8 000 000 000 * 0.2 * 1 = 1 600 000 000

Lets call the 1.6Bil a hard line that we want to sustain aka the perpetual enviormental doomsday in the current year+x.

Over the next 80 years with strict population control and current technology we can make that:

4 000 000 000 * 0.4 * 1 = 1 600 000 000 and bring 20% more people into the top percentile bringing the misery, disease, war and resource shortage down or keep it to its current form.

Or if we wanted to bring same 20% of population to the same mark with efficiency (11.2 bil is expected population by 2100) we would need to achieve efficiency of:

11 200 000 000 * 0.4 * x = 1 600 000 000

x = 1600000000/(11200000000*0.4) = 0.357

Thats an efficiency increase of ~2.8x

So it boils down to you claiming that in the next 80 years we can increase efficiency 2.8 times across the board. This does not only include energy but materials too 2.8x less materials used to build cars, houses, roads etc. And on top of that we will do it with a completely new source of energy since fossil fuels are going dry in the coming decades.

Furthermore you calling population growth moot suggest thinking that this can be repeated again ad infinitum in 2180 and 2260 and so on.

I'll put it mildly - don't think its feasible.

Edit: fixed the last calculation for clarity/typos

junaru··on I used to not worry about climate change. Now I do [video]
> are you not saying that it may be better that 10 poor people are not born, than for rich people to do minor changes to their lifestyle?

I definitely would say that and would argue it needs to be way more than 10.

If you want to solve manmade climate change you need to solve the demand for goods that cause it. You lower demand by increasing the the supply (can't do that because that increases the emissions you try bringing down) or you increase its price making only the very rich able to afford it and delaying the problem for a decade till population catches up. We already see it with migrant crisis all over the west - both Europe and US.

You do this decade after decade, again and again each time creating more and more privileged cast that can afford it (current policy) and in essence pushing the rest of the civilisation further and further into poverty as they will never catch up and if they do - new legislation will bring them down again to mask the issue once more.

An example of that would be farmers in Europe protesting removal of diesel subsidies or just in general people being able to afford smaller and smaller cars due to taxation in Europe every year.

The problem with these "minor changes to their lifestyle" is that they need to accommodate exponentially growing population that already is a magnitude or more higher than persons who need to adjust.

We are talking about 90%+ reduction in what you call "minor changes" to achieve emission equilibrium to begin with and add that with exponentially growing population and its simply not feasible not due to lack of compassion from top percentile but because changes like these would completely anihilate the modern human civilisation and bringing it back hundreds of years.

As an example theres a very informative video on what happens to country and infrastructure when 4 million people join the power grid in a decade [1] Imagine that scaled to 4 billion and the extreme worldwide devastation.

Population control is the only way to solve climate change and it needs to be reduced everywhere but especially in the undeveloped nations as they have the most potential of bringing everything down.

junaru··on Windows 11 Update 23H2 is stealing users' IMAP credentials
> firewall azure ranges

This will happen naturally as users change their credentials on server but not on outlook. Outlook proxy will try wrong password for 5 or so times and will get their IPs banned. This will affect many more users using the same server.

This will generate tickets for you and you will direct them to use plain local IMAP clients instead.

This whole idea at Microsoft was clearly forged by someone who has never served mail and is bound to fail as it trips standard security practices present for decades.

junaru··on Making TV Useful For My 94-yr-old Aunt
As people grow older they want less complexity not more, doubtful the aunt appreciates it as much as the op.

For everyone else looking to consolidate a settop box and tv to a no bullshit remote highly recommend

https://www.oneforall.com/universal-remotes/urc-6820-zapper#...

Gone are all the superfluous netflix or change input buttons that make your parents stuck and generate support calls.

You configure the remote for tv and when thats done you (optionaly) configure it for the settop box. At that point only the dedicated TV power button goes to tv all other keys go directly to the settop box and theres very few of them with comfortable size and best rubber quality i've seen in a remote ever.

The settopbox/tv compatibility list is not published online but spans decades and i had no problem setting up a noname one that wasn't even on the list.

junaru··on EU says X hosts "illegal content" connected to Israel-Hamas war
What "illegal content"? What 'disinformation'? All the gore that gets pasted on 4chan should be the opening and closing footage on every evening news.

If people saw the shear brutality and horror the only heads that would fly would be of the politicians and media that exploit conflicts for a profit.

But we can't have that. EU made sure its 'illegal' and that people need to be 'protected' from viewing the fallout of our policies.

Through out the history suppressing alternative points of view was never about protecting anything it was always about staying in power. This is no different.

junaru··on Amsterdam to use “noise cameras” against too loud cars
> My 1200 petrol car is so quiet you can't actually hear the engine from within the ca

Because your car is actually insulated from that noise. Look at every car review ever and there is a section about noise isolation.

Furthermore the sound is also dependent on the length of exhaust - your average car exhausts is longer than a whole bike and for example previously mentioned BMWs wriggle it around the whole engine back and forth just for that reason. This comes at the price of weight and thus handling/fuel efficiency and actual pollution.

junaru··on AI bots are now better than humans at decoding CAPTCHAs
That approach will not work at all.

Majority shops have captchas since crawlers are like mini denail of service attacks on their resources and they continue day and night.

You will not pay a single webshop to browse its inventory let alone dozens you currently check before buying anything.

Like it or not this is what the internet runs on nowadays so killing that would have much bigger fallout than anything annoying captchas could do.

junaru··on Petition to stop France from forcing browsers like Firefox to censor websites
> Then don't try to put discredit to the saying of an insider.

The GP in question is a generic ramble about distaste for current government. You can apply that for each and every country - there's not one where citizens are happy with their leaders. And if this flies for 'insider knowledge' in France you really are f**d and, its not because of the government.
