julianbuse··on The black market in GitHub stars
part of the problem /s
julianbuse··on Pornhub blocks access to entire state of Virginia
its 70k to 90k PER MONTH, not per year
julianbuse··on CICERO: An AI agent that negotiates, persuades, and cooperates with people
IMO a better game is subterfuge, because it allows you to schedule commands into the future, which means you don't have to wake up at ungodly hours of the night to execute a command.
julianbuse··on Framework Laptops now have 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports
I feel like people just really love the product. I have a friend who has one and says its amazing.
julianbuse··on Attempting Linux on Microsoft Dev Kit 2023
the apple silicon macs are probably your best bet right now.
julianbuse··on How to build a personal webpage from scratch
Poe's law in action: I cannot determine whether this is satire or not.
julianbuse··on Kiwi Farms is down across all domains as DDoS-Guard terminates service
sadly?
julianbuse··on Why A4? – The Mathematical Beauty of Paper Size
I dont think the video is really about the paper, it's just a hook.
julianbuse··on JavaScript hydration is a workaround, not a solution
poe's law strikes again
julianbuse··on Gamma – write like a doc, present like a deck
This actually looks quite cool, and looks like something I would use.
julianbuse··on Use one big server
I'm not sure if you know this, and it might not be useful to you even if you do, but workers can interact with the cache directly: https://developers.cloudflare.com/workers/runtime-apis/cache...
julianbuse··on Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom to introduce persistent user tracking
Yeah I pay 65 Euros a month for an unlimited mobile data plan with Deutsche Telekom, and that's with a young person discount and without a phone included.
julianbuse··on Amplify UI – Don't just prototype. Connect your UI to the cloud
There isn't an intermediary api. Aws amplify is a Backend as a Service, and so your components directly query the database instead of you building an api and building the querying logic for the frontend .
julianbuse··on I don't care how you web dev; I just need more better web apps
By web app, I believe the author meant apps served in a browser, not a mobile app made from html/css/js with a cordova/capacitorjs wrapper. Also, google has problems delivering functionality in general. Have you tried using google home? It never works properly for me, and for some reason I can't log in to my family's home with my google workspaces account. Most things except for search are a mess there, and search is getting worse as well.
julianbuse··on Show HN: Nimwave – build TUIs for the terminal, web, and desktop
I've been trying to roll this myself, so it's pretty cool that someone build this.
julianbuse··on Redis To Go is shutting down
> We wanted to communicate this as early as possible

Two months is a bit short for a database change, don't you think?

julianbuse··on Shortsightedness has become an epidemic
When I read the title, I thought they meant not thinking ahead. This makes much more sense though!
julianbuse··on Play with TailwindCSS in the Browser
I agree that tailwind may not be the most elegant way to style a webpage, and I also prefer classes and regular css or sass, but I don't think you will convince anyone to give up tailwind with such a toxic comment. Perhaps it would just be better if you stopped ruining hn for the rest of us. Additionally, styling and accessibility are not related (unless your layout is terrible, but that is just as doable with css).
julianbuse··on Apple announces new flagship M2 processor
I wonder how this would stack up against my m1 pro equipped mbp 14.
julianbuse··on Installing a payphone in my house
that's incredibly cool!
julianbuse··on DALL-E 2 has a secret language
I imagine these would be very interesting, but not very applicable to humans (which I presume is the intended outcome). OTOH, since these language models are trained on human language and media, they might have some value. I'm quite split on which I think is more likely (I don't have any experience in ai/ml nor in psychology so what do I know).
julianbuse··on Algorithmic stablecoins are provably impossible without continuous funding
I believe (with my limited knowledge) that in this scenario the insurer is algorithmic, so in a sense they are "forced" to buy the stablecoin. Maybe that addressed the first point?
julianbuse··on Next.js Layouts RFC: Nested routes and layouts, designed for Server Components
ah I see. Maybe try the route rewriting in next.conf.js? I think thats what the file is. That might work for static sites.
julianbuse··on California parents could soon sue for social media addiction
something addictive is something that you can't stop even if you want to. There are lots of reasons why someone would want to stop doing something that is fun, but if it is addictive they can't.
julianbuse··on Next.js Layouts RFC: Nested routes and layouts, designed for Server Components
if it helps, you could use middleware in next.js to handle routing to separate folders easier.
julianbuse··on The balance has shifted away from SPAs
It's a multi page app.
julianbuse··on The new and upgraded Framework Laptop
well, it is upgradeable...
julianbuse··on My thoughts about Fly.io (so far) and other newish technology I'm getting into
I think some things need to be built out some more, like their postgres and adding more storage after creation, but in general it's really enjoyable to use. The pricing seems fair, and their blog is intersting and fun to read.
julianbuse··on Software Engineering Insights from 10 Years at Google
Hopefully it doesn't get cancelled a week before it's finally ready.
julianbuse··on Software Engineering Insights from 10 Years at Google
I believe it means total compensation.
