jrflowers··on Tennessee inmate still alive after being administered two lethal injections
Execution is a weird thing for a civilized society to do and the bizarre people that fetishize it say weird shit like “It makes sense to murder somebody if they made other people upset” to avoid talking about how it doesn’t solve any problems that aren’t already solved by life imprisonment. The justification for execution is always “I want the state to kill people because I enjoy that sort of thing”

jrflowers··on Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock
The title is missing an ‘n’. It is “Owned a billion dollars in Nvidia stock”. The author owned a billion dollars of Nvidia stock but did not own another, separate, billion dollars of Nvidia stock.
jrflowers··on OpenAI Feared "Optics" of what might appear on Hacker News
> Selective and out-of-context quoting isn't “criticism of OpenAI”, the same way that saying “checkmate” when your opponent isn't in check isn't chess.

Is quoting “criticism of OpenAI” without the rest of the post a way of saying “checkmate”?

jrflowers··on OpenAI Feared "Optics" of what might appear on Hacker News
> Then you misunderstood my point.

No, they were responding to the post defending OpenAI that you wrote. If you meant to communicate something other than “criticism of OpenAI in this context is unwarranted” then it looks like you forgot to do that and wrote something else instead

> You linked to a data center that was a bitcoin mining operation

This is a good point. Was it a data center across the street from somebody’s house when it was mining Bitcoin? Yes. Will it still be a data center across the street from somebody’s house when it reopens as an ai data center? Also yes

jrflowers··on Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents"
You wouldn’t want to live next to a data center because of income inequality? Or you would want to live by one because you think data centers cut checks to townspeople?
jrflowers··on Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents"
> Much of this is coming from people who have never seen a data center in their life and are always going to want critical infrastructure to be built in the next town over.

There are React programmers that don’t want AI but do want AI data centers, which they consider critical infrastructure, to be built in the next town over?

jrflowers··on Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents"
> Now they realize it does React better than them they want it outlawed.

You think people oppose data centers in their towns to protect their React jobs?

jrflowers··on Bill to Ban Private Equity from Owning Medical Practices

From the link you posted:

> Glower is a slang for a Federal Agent, usually used for one in disguise over the internet.

> The slang comes from a racist rant by the coder of TempleOS Terry A. Davis. "The CIA n*gg*rs glow in the dark, you can see them when you are driving. You just gotta run 'em over with your car."

Seems possible to me that somebody might use the terms interchangeably but I’m no expert on slurs. Lol at “horseshoe theory is when somebody has heard a slur”

jrflowers··on Bill to Ban Private Equity from Owning Medical Practices
Hmm yes. Two deaths, over a thousand hospitalizations, and not a single state in the US with zero cases, but those are just things that are real and happened which means they do not take into account things that didn’t happen or things you could imagine in your mind.

If we simply envision a nation without diarrhea have we not eradicated it in our hearts, where it matters mos

jrflowers··on A coffee shop owner used AI to make a menu poster. Then came the angry DMs
Hurt the business in what way specifically?

All we’ve got to go off is a screenshot of a vaguely weird DM. Seeing as the article didn’t mention any type of harm at all, what is the evident harm here?

This is an article on a news website about how somebody got a dm lol, there was never any threat, they would’ve written about it if there was

jrflowers··on A coffee shop owner used AI to make a menu poster. Then came the angry DMs
Can you quote the words in the article where somebody said that the business was or would be hurt

Because if not that would mean that this is an article about a threat that somebody imagined in their head

jrflowers··on A coffee shop owner used AI to make a menu poster. Then came the angry DMs
It is worth pointing out that the article doesn’t even imply that the business suffered any negative outcome here (ie damage or loss of sales etc.) It also doesn’t implied that the person threatened that the business might suffer any negative outcome, just that they would talk about the ad that the business made and put out for people to see and share.

This article is very careful not to actually elaborate on what the “threat” might’ve meant because I’d imagine that baselessly speculating out loud about what they imagine it could be would open them up to getting sued.

It’s all just uwu smol bean coffee shop chiropractor bullied by mean anti-ai mob dreck

jrflowers··on A coffee shop owner used AI to make a menu poster. Then came the angry DMs
It literally is not. You can maybe phrase it to sort of sound like a threat but “I’m going to share your public ad” is never a threat. It’s like if you angrily yell “I’m going to come to a complete stop at this upcoming stop sign!” in a threatening voice and then do that, it wasn’t a threat. Great. That’s what the sign is for. That’s what everyone wants you to do.
jrflowers··on A coffee shop owner used AI to make a menu poster. Then came the angry DMs
How would a coffee shop spend an hour making their coffee better

Like you own a coffee shop and you’ve freed up one hour in the 12 weeks before you have to make a new sign, what do you do in that hour that makes the coffee better?

jrflowers··on A coffee shop owner used AI to make a menu poster. Then came the angry DMs
Nobody threatened the business owner. Somebody offered the business a chance to change up the ad (and help doing so) before it got shared, and the owner figured it would be better to go viral with the slop ad. Now there’s an article in Business Insider painting the business as the victim of mean customers that assaulted it by not liking the slop poster, so it looks like it all worked out for them.
