I'm a tech aficionado with a lot of passion and eagerness to share what I learn. Likewise, I like connecting with other people, whether they are involved in the Startup community or not. If you ever want to suggest me something, complain or simply talk about anything at all, please let me know. My door is always open.

joshbert··on Closure, from why the lucky stiff (2013)
> As for _why, there is nothing special about him

That sounds patently false to me considering we're still talking about him almost 20 years after his flagship work was published.

Minimizing _why because of a tired, narrow-minded focus on identity politics seems disingenuous and like a missed opportunity to learn

joshbert··on Purchase and manage domains directly through Bluesky
Only issue with that thesis is that HN hates 100% of the things that it comes across.
joshbert··on Apple Vision Pro: Apple’s first spatial computer
It was part of the keynote how it can integrate with Magic Mouse/Keyboard and presumably other bluetooth accessories
joshbert··on A cryptocurrency company had a $65M bill, per Datadog’s Q1 earnings call
That's a great approach and I'd also be curious to know if somebody has paid you, my immediate guess would be "no" - but you never know
joshbert··on Google “We have no moat, and neither does OpenAI”
I don't feel sorry for Google, nor the big amounts of PR nonsense they're putting out there in order to try to spin their being too slow to move LLM tech to the side of the consumer. Get better or get out.
joshbert··on Australia’s new mass surveillance mandate
Australia's always been a bit icky when it comes to digital rights and censorship, but this just takes it over the top.
joshbert··on Tesla Announces a Humanoid Robot “Tesla Bot”
You clearly have no point to make.
joshbert··on Apple says photos in iCloud will be checked by child abuse detection system
What a horrible, horrible take.
joshbert··on GitHub Copilot
There's that insecurity thing he was talking about.
joshbert··on No evidence that chance meetings in office boosts innovation
You admitted previously that there's companies with remote cultures that are tremendously successful. By definition of their very existence, they have replaced "face time with online" - which you claim can't happen.
joshbert··on A backlash against gender ideology is starting in universities
I disagree, those labels have many aims, none of which are good and most of which seem to be a form of ending conversations before any meaningful conclusion is reached.
joshbert··on A backlash against gender ideology is starting in universities
That was my perception of that person's posts as well.
joshbert··on How a fake story about Angela Merkel led to a far-right cluster on Reddit
This is my exact experience when asking questions about a broad subject that has to do with politics. You get downvoted, therefore information doesn't flow properly your way, which leaves people just as ignorant as they come in and resentful that they get punished for asking serious questions in a respectful tone.
joshbert··on Trump Is Right: Silicon Valley Using H-1B Visas to Pay Low Wages to Immigrants
There's an arrow next to the username that will help you express this sentiment without the need to comment.
joshbert··on Not Everyone in Tech Cheers the H-1B Visa Program
The point being, it needs to be updated.
joshbert··on Lyft surges to the top 10 on App Store following the “DeleteUber” campaign
I agree wholeheartedly, but I think this phenomenon is to be expected.

I don't know any more about the founder of Whole Foods than I do about the founder of Target, nor is it really relevant to me as a consumer. All the vast majority of people have to form an opinion on their image is the companies themselves and their experiences with them. So, we do.

joshbert··on Lyft surges to the top 10 on App Store following the “DeleteUber” campaign
Hear, hear.
joshbert··on Trump Fires Acting Attorney General
Truly a riveting read. I had no idea Bush was like that behind closed doors.
joshbert··on Dropbox Paper
My immediate thought was "another Dropbox project that'll be sunset in a year's time, huh?"
joshbert··on Trello Spins Out of Fog Creek With $10.3M
Trello is such a fantastic tool, I use it every single day. It has stood the test of time for me, unlike Evernote, Clipboard and many others. This is fantastic news, kudos to the Trello team.
joshbert··on Drinking behind 1 in 10 deaths of working-age adults
I had a similar experience to your father growing up and that's exactly the conclusion I reached. Learning what not to do through the example of others can be quite efficient.
joshbert··on Write Code, Crush Foes, Get Hired – Multiplayer Programming Tournament
That's a great response, thank you.
joshbert··on Write Code, Crush Foes, Get Hired – Multiplayer Programming Tournament
I wonder how their last employment program went. Any comments, gsaines?
joshbert··on The next version of DuckDuckGo
This is fantastic. I already had DDG as my search engine, this just takes it to the next level. I'll be looking forward to the full release. Kudos!
joshbert··on Ask HN: Listen to HN articles as radio.
It seems like you have a pretty good idea of what you want to do. That said, assumption number 3 is not entirely true. Pocket (which is already widely used) has TTS tech integrated and it's really easy to use.

I could see the value so long as the articles are narrated by a human. A condition that, like you said, seems to have a lot of strings attached to it.

joshbert··on Ask HN: How do you validate your idea?
Check out this article:

http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2014/04/10/a-guide-to-valida...

I read it and really enjoyed it. It seems like a great fit for your situation.

joshbert··on The user is drunk (2013) [video]
I remember watching this last year. It's one of the best UX videos I've ever seen, thanks for the reminder.
joshbert··on A New Codecademy
It looks great, modern and slick. Somebody else mentioned the fact that you guys are coming out with something that'll take users out of the console. Can you elaborate on that?
joshbert··on Mike Judge Skewers Silicon Valley With the Satire of Our Dreams
I saw SV's first episode and found it overly boring.

I got the jokes and even got a couple of chuckles here and there, but the show as a whole is not worth the hype it currently has behind it. I'll keep watching, however, hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

joshbert··on How Mike Judge and Co. Are Turning "Silicon Valley" Into the Next "Spinal Tap"
Yup, Thiel Fellowship included.
