What is the recommended screening frequency ?
joseakle··on Airbnb S-1
To me it sounds like there are several startup opportunities there.

How would a solution to each of those for airbnb look like?

joseakle··on Stripe migrates Stripe Subscriptions users to more expensive Stripe Billing
Cool!

btw there's a small bug on the storage part of the pricing plan calculation. It shows 5,525 GB units but then the calculation is for 10,100 units.

joseakle··on Clojure at Netflix (2013) [slides]
We use Clojure at Nubank.

We’re actively hiring Clojure devs or we can teach those who don’t know it yet.

We’re very happy with it.

joseakle··on Ask HN: What is your advice for a technical founder learning sales?
Don Tempelton's Sales Ready Product concept [1] (adopted by Sequoia), especially the ideas around MVP vs. SRP [2] were very useful to me.

Summary

To transform your product into a Sales Ready Product, you need:

- Unified Engineering, Product, Design and Sales teams

- First-hand customer research

- An inventory of customer objections

- Understanding of what matters most to customers (and what you can ignore)

- A qualification list (and the right initial customers)

- A demo that uses data from the prospect and includes a light switch moment

- Standardized and unified sales training and materials

Thank you :)
joseakle··on Ask HN: What business would you start in 2018?
A not for profit ride sharing platform, in the spirit of ghost.org .

Self driving cars are still years ahead, besides that, humans will still be needed for other kinds of gigs for some time.

That sounds like anti competitive pricing all over again. Bundling Windows with a cloud subscription. Will it call for anti-trust action?

Having it plugged into a security camera would be amazing though. It could alert you when your dog is bored and wants to go out to play for example :) or if it's feeling sick and needs to go to the vet :(
joseakle··on Comma.ai will ship a $999 autonomous driving add-on by the end of this year
Why not position it as an accident avoidance system?

Most accidents occur due to distracted drivers. A self braking car preventing drivers from rear ending other cars can easily be justified as a good investment. Having something like this to "upgrade" any car to a better safety system makes more sense to me from a marketing standpoint.

joseakle··on Semco – Insanity That Works
Ricardo Semler's is indeed a true visionary, he started applying the principles of democracy and trust to industrial production decades ago, his first book Maverick[1] was written in 1995, it is full of interesting anecdotes on how he implemented his ideas in his father's business. I find his methods very similar to what is now being called Holocracy [2].

Is your site www.flymaids.com ? Seems to be down, getting a Heroku no such app error.
joseakle··on Write like you talk
when i first read Saramago [1], i was impressed how he wrote with no punctuation or even capital letters, and how enjoyable and easy to read it was, it was definitely a breath of fresh air, only a few times it was hard to follow the story, mainly on dialogues i sometimes got lost who was saying what, overall his writing style made reading his novels a lot of fun, my feeling was more like listening to someone tell me a story directly, rather than having to get hold of the rhythm and style of the writer.

joseakle··on A redesign of the Django websites
I'm colorblind and some links on the documentation https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.7/ don't look different enough from normal text. Mostly I'm having a hard time identifying links that aren't underlined.
joseakle··on Can an Argentine startup reinvent governance through a smartphone app?
This is the github link of the project: https://github.com/DemocracyOS/app

The initial implementation seems to be around discussing bills.

From the FAQ: "citizens can present projects to be debated, and representative present for debate those bills currently in debate in Congress. DemocracyOS has three basic actions: "get informed," "join the conversation," and "vote.""

joseakle··on Why Can't Startups Find Designers?
Great, thanks. Have they thought about hiring themselves to make the site friendlier to mobile browsers? If you know them, could you tell them please? I already did, but i guess coming from you the signal would be stronger. I had a hard time browsing on my phone.
joseakle··on Open-plan offices must die
What are the dimensions you would recommend for the rooms?
joseakle··on Defining Property
I think the debate is much more complicated. I would start by analyzing the various dimensions that property can have.

Let's list some:

- Non property vs property. Religion vs. patents.

- Public property vs Private property. Rain vs. bottled water.

- Intellectual property vs Physical property. A song vs. a gong.

Any other dimensions you can think of?

joseakle··on Justin Kan Launches Exec (YC W12) For Real-Time Mobile Jobs
I would love to have an Exec for tasks inside my company. The money would be drawn from a company´s bank account. Sort of like internal bounties perhaps. Maybe even complementing salaries, I don´t know. Thoughts?
