jorgec··on Meltdown fix impact on Redis performances in virtualized environments
But since when a VM is used as a workstation?. AFAIK we know that this vulnerability could be executed via javascript. If the browser is safe then we are safe about it without patch-hacking the kernel.
jorgec··on Meltdown fix impact on Redis performances in virtualized environments
I agree. For most cases, the fix is worst than the solution.
jorgec··on The Human Cost of the Ghost Economy
"When you are poor..."

When you are poor, then every DECENT and legal job is fine.

People say that there is not job and its not true. If you find then you could get. However, most jobs are crap but crap that its legal and decent. My first job was 12h x 7 days, however, i enjoyed and earned money. In my second job, i doubled my salary and so on.

There are a lot of people that simply don't want to work. Usually the first job is crap. But most people want a perfect job without having the degree, experience and expertise.

And if you can't find a job then join the army.

jorgec··on A wall of lava lamps helps encrypt the internet
Generating a random number by using microseconds as a seed is more than enough for practically every single case. It still hasn't been cracked or predicted.

Some people say that, in theory, it could be cracked however, i tried and its impossible, modern computers are so complex and fast that it gives enough entropy.

jorgec··on Three Years on Google App Engine
Cloud is worth if you are in the range of $10-$200. Other that, there are better alternatives.
jorgec··on Three Years on Google App Engine
Google App Engine (GAE) was cool because it was for free. Then, Google started charging (really expensive), i got enough with it and i quit.
jorgec··on Dude, You Broke the Future [video]
I predicted a future with flying cars and its not happening.

jorgec··on The Worst Job in Technology: Staring at Human Depravity to Keep It Off Facebook
It starts censoring topics that are illegal, then topics that aren't family friendly and finally, it will end censoring point of view and free speech.

Its 1984 all over.

Im not an anarchist however, if something is illegal then go ahead and cut it but, censoring without a legal cause is a crime.

jorgec··on Maintenance often matters more than innovation (2016)
Is called business continuity.
jorgec··on A beginner’s guide to getting started in the cryptocurrency world
Bitcoin in a nutshell: A small group of companies decide the price of bitcoin arbitrary, the price is not backed by real money or a commodity but thin air. The price is not even decided by supply and demand.
jorgec··on What Makes a Great Software Engineer? [pdf]
In small companies, a software engineer is a social job, it requires to talks with lot of people, specially with the customer (may be not all customers) but also, with others colleagues, with the people of infrastructure, sometime even with the people of finances (such as asking for a new server), with marketing or sales (if any), with design and so on.

In a big business, a software engineer is only a cogs that follows specific orders. I remember a blog of a former engineer of Microsoft that talked about it, he said that, in the past, Microsoft was direct, and having a technical meeting with Bill Gates was something usual. However, the company grow and those perks are long gone, now MS has a lot of bureaucracy and level and sub levels of complexity (so many executives and managers).

jorgec··on What Makes a Great Software Engineer? [pdf]
Memory? It depends, knowing technical knowledge by memory is useless since we could use google. However, if memory means EXPERIENCE then, its a different matter. A seasoned engineer costs a lot more for this reason.
jorgec··on What Makes a Great Software Engineer? [pdf]
A good engineer solves problems in the most feasible and working way possible. If its fast, cheap and usable then its fine. A good software engineer solves problems by generating software. Its amazing the amount of self called software engineers that are unable to design from start to end a simple software. So, a good software engineer is mainly a PROGRAMMER.
jorgec··on Are EV certificates worth the paper they're written on?
Most companies don't care about the EV, aka the GREEN BAR.

For example, Paypal and Apple care but not Google, Amazon or Microsoft. So, its not a matter of costs but its usability that its practically NIL. Even Ycombinator is not using it.

As a developer, i am found that practically all customers don't care about the URL, in fact, most customer don't see the url at all.

jorgec··on After the War on Drugs: Blueprint for Regulation (2009)
> Whether we like it or not, people will seek out chemicals to make their day better, be it chocolate, coffee, wine, or heroine.

Its excuse.

jorgec··on Mozilla Files Cross-Complaint Against Yahoo Holdings and Oath
Since where Mozilla is the good guy?. In fact, since Mozilla fired one of the founders for political reason, Mozilla is turning from bad to worse: a) Is breaking plugins just for the good of change. b) The browser is bloating more and more for each new version. c) Is adding new features that never asked for.

Developers aren't happy, customers aren't happy and now, partners aren't happy. Google is happy.

jorgec··on The Moral Urgency of Mental Health

jorgec··on Laptops Are Great, But Not During a Lecture or a Meeting
If you are a bad student then every single teacher is bad.

jorgec··on Settling Video Game Arguments, Part 1: Game Reviews
Videogames use art but its not art. Or more specifically, its not created for their artistic value. Videogames are a amusement product over an artistic product.

For example, a stunning artistic videogame but boring versus a ugly game but funny.

jorgec··on Settling Video Game Arguments, Part 1: Game Reviews
A journalist is like a Lawyer, they think that they are good at everything but they should be specialized, for example, a business lawyer trying to act in a criminal case.

In this case, a game journalist should be specialized in some kind of games. Its not as simple as "i play xbox" or "playstation". For example Flight Simulation games or Wargaming. All of them are niche, and if you don't get it, you could considers it as a boring game, and yes, they are bore if you aren't part of the target market.

Cuphead is an example, a apparently good journalist trying to play a game where hes clueless. IT WAS PATHETIC.

jorgec··on What if consciousness is not what drives the human mind?
Also hormones.
jorgec··on Facebook Is the Junk Food of Socializing (2015)
In my experience, i tried to join facebook a couple of months ago and: a) It asked me for a lot of private information. I submit all of them. b) Then i entered. Facebook suggested me, a list of contacts. All of them are ugly people. c) And finally, facebook asked me for a real photo. I used a real photo the first time but i think facebook is a bit faulty.. d) The interface is a real mess.

Conclusion: i am seasoned with linkedin, where everybody is a "winner", may be not but they try to do that. In facebook its the opposite, everybody show the worst.

jorgec··on Why Wikipedia cannot claim the earth is not flat
In this case, Wikipedia's editors are the *ssholes. Of course, not every single editor is bad, but a good editor is somebody that: a) accepted the rules of wikipedia (that are unfair and prone to abuse). b) have enough spare time. c) don't mind or have troubles working with abusive people.

If you are a professional then, it takes a single day to find that Wikipedia is ruled by brats and its not your place.
