jordan_clark··on 5G Mobile Networks: A Systems Approach
I think in this context, it is meant to describe how the underlying hardware AND software work together and to describe the potential cloud (public or private) opportunities of both.
jordan_clark··on I made a smart watch from scratch
Very true
jordan_clark··on I made a smart watch from scratch
I googled and added it up (just out of curiosity) using the BOM, and total cost was ~$88USD (not counting shipping)

Also, the OS is FreeRTOS (Open sourced by AWS/Amazon in '17) if anyone is interested

jordan_clark··on Software Won’t Fix Boeing’s ‘Faulty’ Airframe
Hey Greg - serious question - The A320NEO has a very similar engine placement as the Max8. Wouldn't that air frame be faulty too if the problem was solely due to engine placement being in front of the wings?
jordan_clark··on Software Won’t Fix Boeing’s ‘Faulty’ Airframe
Greg - Serious question - How is that air frame on the Max8 faulty due to engine placement when the A320NEO has almost the same design?
jordan_clark··on Ask HN: I'm a solopreneur and I feel demoralised
Agree completely. Being isolated from people and not making connections can be detrimental. Being in a co-working environment and being able to have small interactions can make a big difference.
jordan_clark··on We don't need a Tech Lead
My opinion is if you don't need a tech lead, great. But, most teams do. Someone needs to be there making a final decision. Also, it depends on the company and the type of team. If it is a government organization and the majority of the development team are contractors, a tech lead is most definitely needed to advocate in the best interests of the government entity. In this scenario, the tech lead would need to be a government employee.
jordan_clark··on WhatsApplebee's: the premiere Applebee's-based social chat app
Forgot the quotes, but yes, "LAZER"-Walker.

Love the idea. Good jorb.

jordan_clark··on Show HN: Selfie Ticket
You bring up a valid point. Presenting a picture as the only means for authentication removes the benefit of digitized confirmation. Pics on the app store link appear to show a clock of some sort over the picture, but even that could be easily recreated.
jordan_clark··on Programmers At Work: Bill Gates (1986)
This is a great, great article. It gives you insight and makes you realize how intelligent he really is. Compared to Steve Jobs, I would bet Gates' IQ is a full 10-15 points higher. However, what Jobs lacked in intelligence he more than made up for with charisma and ability to relate to people. Highly enjoyable read.
jordan_clark··on Programmers At Work: Bill Gates (1986)
That's a great story. Thank you for sharing!
jordan_clark··on Google says tricky job interview brainteasers were ‘a waste of time’
> More interesting was the fact they have given up screening on academic credentials.

I agree. I've always thought screening based on a three tier system based on how quickly you can solve problems, quality of solution and personality (ability to get along with co-workers) would more accurately reveal the best candidates.

Politics.

jordan_clark··on U.S. Is Secretly Collecting Records of Verizon Calls
Even taking it a step further - If monitoring my phone calls about my kid being sick and puking in the back seat of my car keeps me safe from assholes, be my guest. Listen away.
jordan_clark··on Police admit they're 'stumped' by mystery car thefts
They didn't release all of the details. We would need to know which makes and models and years this does/does not work on. In the videos they only showed Honda products (Acura) (The MDX was a 2000-2006 model) but does not work on GM or Ford. So this is most likely is manufacturer specific.
jordan_clark··on Ask HN: and now what?
Take time off and recharge. You'll be able to spot solutions to problems easier if you're not under pressure. Sort of like when couples try very hard to get pregnant and can't. Just take a break for a while, get interested in something, focus inward on yourself (physically and spiritually) and the ideas will come. Also read this: http://www.jamesaltucher.com/2011/03/10-things-you-need-to-d...

And don't forget even startups created by people with lots and lots of money and huge successes in the past screw up trying to make things too. (Airtime)

jordan_clark··on Google’s “Conversational Search” Goes Live On Chrome
1.) Rasberry Pi 2.) USB sound card 3.) Analog mic splitter: (plus other things of course) -

Run small mic's and speakers to most commonly used rooms in house. Star Trek computer search enabled.

jordan_clark··on Creating Shazam in Java
Ah.. good point.
jordan_clark··on Creating Shazam in Java
One possible way to solve the legal troubles is to just remove any references to the product name 'Shazam'. You could title the blog post "Algorithm in Java that identifies music similar to other commercial products" (too long.. but use your imagination)
jordan_clark··on Show HN: Automatic weekly meal planner, also plans your leftovers
This is actually really, really useful. Even pulls in the recipes.. Excellent work. claps
jordan_clark··on When Growth is a Bad Thing
I think the title of the blog post should have been "Taking VC money too early is a bad thing". Because truly, at that point your focus has to switch from 'product' to 'profitability'. Overall though, I agree with the sentiments.
jordan_clark··on My girlfriend tries to explain my startup in 90 seconds
Girlfriends aside, the interface is fantastic. I would use this. Good job.
jordan_clark··on Bitcoin URL scheme whitelisted in HTML5
Me too. Also, If the phone company makes it to where I can't use my 2400 baud modem anymore I am canceling my account.
jordan_clark··on My First Year in the App Store
Is there a link to the app on the app store? Or did I miss it?
jordan_clark··on Keep your CRUD off the Internet
Good points.
jordan_clark··on Keep your CRUD off the Internet
Where? I don't know, but according to the speed test I just ran on my Verizon iPhone 5 I have 30 mbps down and 12 mbs upstream plus 70ms response time. With that speed/latency combo, poor network connection quality and offline syncing just isn't a problem that needs to be solved.
jordan_clark··on Keep your CRUD off the Internet
Like others have stated, I think it depends. Look at your target market. If the market is the USA, mobile connections are getting more reliable and really fast (LTE) and this isn't much of a problem.

OP should market this to devs focusing on countries where mobile networks stink.

jordan_clark··on 10,000 Startups opens for Application
Yes
jordan_clark··on Stolen From Apple
NSHumanReadableCopyright - Good stuff.
jordan_clark··on Poll: How many Bitcoins do you have?
We're going to have to change the name of this site to Bitcoin News. Sick of it.
jordan_clark··on Programming Cheat Sheets
I like it. Nice work.
