jollyllama··on California closed the Montana license plate loophole
> I'm looking forward to the last Harley getting recycled.

Dream on. It'll never happen.

jollyllama··on Redditor buys used CPU, turns out it was banned on Valorant and they are SoL
First, they came for the gamers...
jollyllama··on The death of web development education
> which the global capital order falls into a version of late-Soviet decay and collapse -- a major boon to the oligarchs, just as it was in Russia

We were already on track for that anyway. This just adds an interesting twist to it.

jollyllama··on The AI Race Just Got Awkward
Where do you think most of the hardware is manufactured, and do you think the hardware manufacturers will keep getting paid if labs start going under?
jollyllama··on Pi.dev: You Said No MCP
These reason why they were proclaiming MCP dead and crowning CLI the influencer is that they aren't serious people. They're either vibe coders who never knew what the meaning of engineering for production or they are those who chose to forget the meaning because it fits their chosen vibe coder narrative.
jollyllama··on AI needs $6T in annual revenue to justify data centre boom
Fair point about global vs US as your sibling notes.

> 2. Global GDP will be ~$165T by 2031

But GDP is a very different thing than payrolls.

jollyllama··on AI needs $6T in annual revenue to justify data centre boom
What's total US annual payrolls? I don't think it's beyond the order of $20 trillion. So they're going to have to replace something on the order of magnitude of half of all jobs OR "create" the difference, in terms of jobs going to AI.
jollyllama··on Allow Carriers on Planes
This. The web page title should be "Allow Babywearing on Planes"
jollyllama··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
> it turns out that was a stroke of luck

> demand has cooled off for EVs massively.

Or, maybe they just accurately realized that US consumers don't want EVs.

jollyllama··on Seattle City Council votes to ban surveillance pricing in sale of groceries
There's plenty of other laws that limit the choices of the poor for their own good. You can't just build a lean-to slum, you can't buy swill milk.
jollyllama··on What It's Like to Work in One of America's Data Centers
When it all goes bust, at least you'll have some real estate.
jollyllama··on Seattle Bans Rental Junk Fees
Which is exactly what another post was saying: that large corporations will step in instead.
jollyllama··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
Some longer amount of time, potentially. Point taken.
jollyllama··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
You're not wrong. But the only solutions appear to be varying levels of being a free-rider, which means the thing you like probably gets deleted anyway when it's deemed unprofitable. The long-term solution is probably to only consume locally-made goods and content, public-domain content, or vintage goods.
jollyllama··on Oracle’s 6am layoff emails hit staff amid new wave of cuts
If it happens in 2026, they will likely be bailed out.
jollyllama··on My Health Insurance Denied My Cancer Treatment. I Emailed the CEO
> Typically brisk, my oncologist was tender. “There’s good news,” she said. “We can use a much milder chemo this time.”

It's really weird to go to bat for the health insurance industry.

jollyllama··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
I'm not aware of any mass desertions by Western armies.
jollyllama··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
It's not clear that non-mercenary Arab armies are much better in this respect.
jollyllama··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
"AI is critical for National Defense."

"But I don't see it helping us, it's just helping our enemies get closer to parity ."

"Precisely. How else are we going to justify the budget?"

jollyllama··on Ask HN: Anyone still coding like 2021? Where do you work?
> Weirdly our contractors can. They wrote it into their contracts. It’s not even fair, really.

Do you draw any other conclusion than that your management wants to replace you with the contractors?

jollyllama··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
With all due respect, what's scary about a fanfiction wiki?
jollyllama··on Mom gets 6-month suspended sentence for letting 5-year-old walk to the pond
Yeah, it's not really clear from the article. Wild that you can get on some list of abusers without a jury trial. Maybe she waived her rights? Can that even happen?
jollyllama··on Mom gets 6-month suspended sentence for letting 5-year-old walk to the pond
> Parkinson's attorney, Andrew Gordon, took the case pro bono and argued that the only real "evidence" against the mom was that Sam was 5, and that, hypothetically, a host of horrible things could have happened.

You get what you pay for, I guess.

> David DeLugas, founder and executive director of ParentsUSA, a nonprofit that provides pro bono legal help to parents wrongly accused of neglect, scoffed at the charge.

Sounds pretty cool; do they have a better record of legal wins?

jollyllama··on Wendell Berry has died
[flagged]
jollyllama··on It's OK to hardcode feature flags (2025)
It depends if the JSON file is in source control, or if it's an environment file.
jollyllama··on Launch HN: Nori Robotics (YC S26) – A low-cost humanoid robot for development
Humanoid on wheels might be the winning form factor.
jollyllama··on Fastpotify
> class BuffaloBill
jollyllama··on A society that runs on stimulants is badly broken
Hasn't it been that way for at least a few hundred years? I'm surprised the article didn't mention the OG stimulant, tobacco.
jollyllama··on Nvidia Starts Pac as AI Chip Maker Builds DC Influence Force
GP username checks out.
jollyllama··on 11,000-year-old sculpture of man riding a leopard found in Turkey
No, you have it reversed, the leopards have the monkey on their back.
