I think "listen" deals in influence where as yes, one vote per citizen deals with democracy.
Do you listen to everyone equally? Can it even be done?
Decide now, before you get drawn in, what your specific minimum acceptable financial and family time goals are.
If you are going to burn the midnight oil, you get less time with your son and your soon to be wife. Talk to her about it. You want to be a unified team that has a battle plan that you both support and work toward.
Those things you name and want, be sure you are measuring them and getting them. If you succeed and make a lot of money, it can feel right to chase the money long after you've made plenty. If that is a choice you made and own, that's good. If it is a place you wake up and find yourself in, that is not good, even if the result is good.
If you set family as your top thing, don't go home to strangers. Don't be the always too exhausted to interact guy.
If you set money as the top thing, make sure your wife is part of that path and not some other ball you have to try impossibly to hold up. Do this either by her direct participation or by taking the time to keep her looped in when you get home - but do it. She is on your team and you are on hers.
That hits a little too close to the core...
Anyone can take a picture of a CPAP machine but not every can do so after 5 years experience serving customers using them. What angles do they want to see, what zoom shots make things most clear, how do those zooms relate to the specific features and usage of that machine/mask/product.
CPAP is unfamiliar and visuals are the guide. It is important to do it right and hard to do it right. I think they are special as are the people who made them.
If we publish our home brewed content without watermarks and it is lifted off google and used to compete against us, we have no effective recourse.
Detail:
In our company, one advancement track is from Customer Service to Products. It seems like a good and obvious thing to do, but typically photos and product materials in our space are produced by teams without direct experience helping customers make CPAP equipment work for them. We often find that the stock images and materials available to us are ineffective for internet customers, as they are often designed to target physicians and the owners of traditional brick and mortar CPAP retailers.
We have spent a lot of time and effort to do better. I believe we have. Our product presentations are end CPAP user driven and focused. We view both the images produced and the knowledge that produced them as an earned competitive advantage.
We've had instances where we woke up to find anothercpapco.com copying our product catalog verbatim. I think software patents slow innovation and that the DRM situation in the music industry is bad. Yet, I made the decision to water mark our images in order to prove them stolen.
Give us a paypal link and we'll gap you.
I'm working back from median household income in the US.

I think the proposal's underpinnings are "lets pay everyone enough to live on, shrink all the complexity down to one number so we can all understand and impact what that one number is, and hope that those who produce for love of the game do so to an extent that allows us to keep the system running". Basically communism with a uber-capitalist kicker (slogan proposal: "Musk's gonna Musk").
From your comments, it sounds like you'd think that if we put 30k more per person on the table, the incentive to work would go away, and the poor are needed to work so it would break the system. Well, I believe we've already crossed this line with current entitlements and programs and there's already an advantage to not working.
This is a far right alt source so read it carefully and do your own thinking (could say the same for CNBC though!):
http://www.zerohedge.com/article/entitlement-america-head-ho...
In conclusion:
1. 3k is just another entitlement added onto a haze of entitlements.
2. The value would be a single number. We're giving it away inefficiently now, why not clean that part up and hope democracy/the light of day will bring a moderation to it. Likely not, but better than what is.
3. 30k would be a better number if all other entitlement of any kind were truly going away and we were going to truly play it strait up.
4. If I'm wrong on this and the number after cutting everything else off is really 8k or 10k or whatever, I'm still fairly skeptical we could pay for it.
5. I've focused a lot of my life on not being poor-ish like we were when I was a kid. I think I'm pretty disconnected from what that word really means, and intentionally so, but thanks for the reality check anyway. If you'd go into more detail, I'd read it. Specifically, say you were poor but wanted to make something, would the amount of money you'd need increase and by how much?
My second was "there would at least be one and only one number to vote on and administer in this area of government"
My third "oh...wait, you can't live on 3k anyway. The rest of the machinery would have to stay and this would be in addition. Worse, next year its 3.5k, and then next 4k..."
So my counter is this:
Will it work if we give everyone 30k a year? Because that would actually simplify and change things.
Anything less and this isn't a serious proposal.
QE Infinity policies will devastate the US economy and cost us our reserve currency status.
Not everything needs a blog post.
I think my favorite part was "I have iterated on this idea a bit." where you post the fails.
It can get discouraging looking at all the beautiful stuff posted and thinking it just sprang out of nothing. Clearly this is neat because you put a lot of work into making it so.
Thanks for taking the time to write it up and share it.
I don't think this would be a walmart down thing but instead a "the valley out" thing - kind of like REST and APIs are today.
The npm install errored out, I got it going via sudo, loaded a large project with it and it crashed.
I will be back in a month to have another go. :-)
In my case, I'd like to allow customer service candidates who have passed initial skills test screeners to be prompted to select a primary and secondary scheduling slot and have those selections pushed to gcal.
2. Token rebuttals.
a. Someone lives irresponsibly, I live responsibly. The sick that comes for us all devastates them early and I'm told "since we all get sick, they got sick much earlier due to all the crack and booze, they can't pay because they were grasshoppering it up while you worked, so now you pay". This is an extreme example, but I work in healthcare and I think I'm no stable ground saying that you can substitute cheeseburger for crack and get a majority. Is this how we want to set things up and call it just?
b. Snow comes. I get out my shovel and go help my neighbor. I don't think doing this flies in the face of Rand. I do it because it is right to do in my gut because I know I'm fit to do it and they aren't. I don't think Rand says not to shovel, I think she says it is MY CHOICE to shovel or not and I own that moral choice after I make it. There's still a right and a wrong choice.
How would sidekiq/delayed jobs worker instances be deployed using a setup like this? I glanced through the docs section and didn't see that.
An Exchange Traded Fund or ETA was originally a way to buy an index or basket of funds.
Say you wanted to buy Standard and Poor's top 500 stocks. As an individual investor, you'd would need a lot of money and would pay a lot of fees to buy up all 500. Then if some stocks were added and others were removed from the index, you would have to pay to get in and out of those.
Enter the ETF ticker symbol SPY. If you buy it, you own a single stock that reflects the composite value of the Standard and Poor's top 500.
ETFs are generally cheaper than mutual funds.
Common ETFs:
DIA is the Dow Jones index, it is only the biggest/"safest" blue chips.
RUT is the Russel 2000 which is a larger number of smaller than SPY stocks.
There are now ETFs for everything. GLD for gold, SLV for silver. I'm pretty sure if you wanted to buy cows via ETFs you could do it.
ETF Negatives:
There is a lot of debate on the precious metals ETFs because there is a LOT more paper being traded than known world supply of Gold or Silver. If everyone called it in, there would be a lot of unhappy people holding paper instead of metal.
My opinion on a bitcoin ETF:
Bitcoin is bitcoin. Unless you want to say that you are starting an ETF that represents a diverse amount of exchanges and in so doing lowers spread risk, then there is really no technical reason for this ETF being founded.
However, if you think that the less technically savvy stock traders in the world might not be able to buy bitcoin because they do not know how but do know how to trade stocks, then you could act as an easier means to the value store they wish to hold.
This is likely what they are up to, and I think it'll work for a while.
how about..
because the quality of a degree has been falling for decades and it is now widely known outside of government and very large corporations that the skills people have are valuable but the skills a college claims a given person has are fairly unlikely to track reality or to be real world valuable.
Said the federal land grant college graduate!
