jobseeker990··on Ask HN: What interesting problems are you working on?
Is there are way to get involved in something like that? It sounds so fascinating.
jobseeker990··on State Farm uses payment signature for HIPAA disclosure authorization
I wonder why no one has tried to build an AI around TOS and other contracts. It could be trained on 1000s of documents and learn what clauses people want to be made aware of, and/or provide a score from 0-10 on how bad it would be to sign it.

To head off the objections: no, it would never be perfect. Yes, there is some risk. But it could be way better for 99% of the population that doesn't read anything they sign.

jobseeker990··on Illinois governor signs law capping insulin costs at $100 per month
why isn't there a generic for insulin?
jobseeker990··on The Pacific Ocean is so acidic that it's dissolving Dungeness crabs' shells
Last time I went in the ocean I noticed my skin was getting burned a bit. My wife thinks it might be that same ocean acidification. Swim while you can I guess.
jobseeker990··on A 60 GHz phased array for $10
Have any further reading I can do on this?
jobseeker990··on How is search so bad? A case study
I always wondered why a search engine can't use SEO tactics as a kind of anti-signal. What comes to the top of a google search if you filter out anyone gaming SEO?
jobseeker990··on Will Bright Star Betelgeuse Supernova?
That would be a shame. Write to your congress person and let them know.
jobseeker990··on Drinking 1% rather than 2% milk accounts for 4.5 years of less aging in adults
Isn't milk such a small part of most people's diets that it couldn't possibly have much of an effect? Especially for adults. Most people I know just put a bit in coffee and that's about it. I can't remember the last time I drank a glass of milk.

(Note I mean milk the drink, dairy is probably a big part of diets but that's not being studied here)

jobseeker990··on Drinking 1% rather than 2% milk accounts for 4.5 years of less aging in adults
I'm skeptical. I've seen other studies where whole milk has a whole host of health benefits.
jobseeker990··on We’re approaching the limits of computer power – we need new programmers
What about Rust or D? OR even Go-lang?
jobseeker990··on Scientists Use Recycled Sewage Water to Grow 500-Acre Forest in the Desert
So you can find me a large barren field in a rainy region that was created by unsustainable agriculture?

On the contrary, life finds a way. unless an area is nearly 100% devoid of water you're going to find some life there, and if it's rainy, something will certainly be growing.

jobseeker990··on A teenager discovered a new planet on the third day of his NASA internship
Usually who ever is in charge of the lab gets the credit for any discoveries. You never hear much about undergrads making discoveries because the professor's name goes on the paper.

I wonder why this article keeps appearing everywhere. I'm not sure why they're allowing the student to get the credit. Maybe it's a feel-good-encourage-STEM piece.

jobseeker990··on Apis Cor builds world's largest 3D-printed building in Dubai
Plus easier maintenance!
jobseeker990··on NASA’s X-59 Quiet Supersonic Research Aircraft Cleared for Final Assembly
Great point. Or motors in the rear wheels could probably get it up to 100MPH on the runway before the jets had to take over.
jobseeker990··on Object-recognition dataset stumped the world’s best computer vision models
It seems like, to be really good the AI needs to construct an internal 3D model of objects so it won't matter which way it's rotated.

It seems to be how the human works. I can rotate an object in my mind and picture it from any angle.

jobseeker990··on Ask HN: Is there a better employment route to high earnings than FAANG?
Where do you find start ups like that?
jobseeker990··on Ask HN: What's the most valuable thing you can learn in an hour?
Another question to pile onto this. Maybe you're the right one to ask.

I was always taught that the body uses up its glycogen stores before burning fat. But if that were true even a small calorie deficit would gradually use up our glycogen stores and we'd be walking around without any after that.

Plus before losing any fat you'd have to experience a glycogen crash/wall which most small deficit dieters don't experience.

jobseeker990··on New, slippery toilet coating provides cleaner flushing, saves water
Why not other applications? Boat hulls, water slides, dishes, cookware?
jobseeker990··on Brave launches 1.0
It's so weird, I had this exact idea when bitcoin came out. But it seemed like you'd need a money transmitter license to be able to do it? So I gave up.
jobseeker990··on The post-exponential era of AI and Moore’s Law
We could make AI more efficient by switching to analog. Otherwise we're encoding the real world into digital and then back into analog again.
jobseeker990··on NASA Flew Gas Detectors Above California, Found ‘Super Emitters’
Compost IS natural decomposition, my dude.
jobseeker990··on Is Crispr the Next Antibiotic?

jobseeker990··on The SpaceX Starship is a big deal
Cue the Kessler syndrome comment ...
jobseeker990··on The SpaceX Starship is a big deal
If it's just one company doing the mining, there's no reason to crash the market. Hold 100x the world's annual demand for platinum and sell off 1% per year for 100 years. 20 Billion times 100 years isn't so bad.
jobseeker990··on Elon Musk tweets using SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet
I think your math is way off. I'm getting less than 2 ms to go 500 km.
jobseeker990··on Ask HN: What's a promising area to work on?
What are some examples of new areas to apply machine learning?
jobseeker990··on The Gravitational-Wave “Revolution” Is Underway

I'm interested in joining an early stage start up with a promising business model and good founders.

I'm looking for a little more high risk/high reward type job where I can really make a difference.

Salary-wise I'm interested in a mostly equity mix for the right company.
