jmjerlecki··on Sprint Confirms It Will Offer Unlimited Pricing for iPhone
Exactly. 69.99$ is a win for them. $79.99 is not. They should kill that "premium smartphone" fee. Or at least kill it for people willing to switch from verizon or ATT. 5$ a month is not reason enough for me to go through with the hassle to switch. 15$ a month is.
jmjerlecki··on Why I Dropped Out of College to Start a Startup
I found the article linked in the blog to be just as interesting: why i got a job at mcdonald's http://www.heiferman.com/mcd/
jmjerlecki··on RIM reportedly bails on PlayBook, considers exiting tablet market
Updated:

RIM calls PlayBook discontinuation ‘pure fiction’

http://www.bgr.com/2011/09/29/rim-calls-playbook-discontinua...

I still call BS. They should become a hardware only company.

jmjerlecki··on Ask HN: Has anybody here ever successfully started a videogame company?
I loved Crash Bandicoot when I was younger. Thank you for making something that I will remember and relate to my youth.
jmjerlecki··on Heatmap of Twitter knowledge by location (heatmap.js + Google Maps)
It would be great to do something like this for an election. A heatmap for people who voted #red or #blue. Seems like a lot of neat uses for this.
jmjerlecki··on Show HN: textlaundry.com
I didn't quite know what to expect when visiting the site with a name textlaundry.com As tacky as it sounds proofreadmypaper.com would be much "cleaner" (excuse the irony).

Props on launching. I think your provide a useful service. I love the idea of submitting my paper immediately and getting a quote.

jmjerlecki··on Blink 182 + SimpleGeo + Soundcloud = Listen to new album with people nearby
Can there please, please, please be a way to disable the chat sound if I am not on the tab. I understand the experience is supposed to be social, but I may jump back and forth between tabs or not be in that tab at all, yet I keep hearing the swooshing noise. It's unlistenable.
jmjerlecki··on Groupon Restates Revenue, Revenue Fell In Half, COO Exits
This is an interesting hypothesis, certainly not the first thing that came to my mind, but an interesting thought. Why Google would want to buy Groupon at this point is beyond me (perhaps for their gigantic sales force and access to local businesses) but I guess you never know. I don't think there is anyway Google offers Groupon the amount they previously did.
jmjerlecki··on Color Recasts Itself as a Facebook Photo and Video App
I think they are just going after something people really don't want. People don't want to see what their friends are doing because chances are its nothing. This appeals to 5% (the scobles) of the social world. They aren't solving a problem that sally facebook has.
jmjerlecki··on Facebook f8 Livestream
Can you imagine Steve Jobs doing a comedy skit at the beginning of a keynote? This is just painful to watch. "errbbody's hands go up!"
jmjerlecki··on The Internet is my Resume
Q: "What have you done?"

A: "Google me."

I think thats the best resume you can have.

jmjerlecki··on Prepare Yourselves: Facebook To Be Profoundly Changed
"I have seen what Facebook is launching on Thursday, and it’s going to change the world of social media."

"On Thursday, developers will be elated, users will be shellshocked and the competition will look ancient. On Thursday, Facebook will be reborn. Prepare yourselves for the evolution of social networking."

These are some pretty bold quotes. It certainly caught my attention. I am pretty anxious to see what they will be launching. The music tweet from earlier I think is a neat idea.

jmjerlecki··on Paul Carr resigns from TC
I'm sorry but I've watched and seen Schonfield a couple of times now and do a bunch of interviews, but there is just something off about the guy. And at this point, no matter how he responds he comes off looking like a loser. The smartest thing he can do is shut his mouth. Especially if MG leaves.
jmjerlecki··on Paul Carr resigns from TC
MG leaves in 5...4...3
jmjerlecki··on Facebook Launches Twitter-Like ‘Subscriptions’
This a pretty big difference though. Becoming someones friend on facebook has social implications. By friending someone you get stuck in the friend limbo stage (do I know this person, is this person a stalker, why wasn't there a message attached to the friend request, all sorts of weird things). By making this subscribe, the other person doesn't have to approve your request in essence because they decided that when they made their post public.
jmjerlecki··on Show HN: Ernie's, Click & Collect Groceries
I think its an interesting approach setting up physical storefronts. Has this been thought about as a "drive-thru" add-on for existing grocery stores managed by the ernie's software? I think the number one use case is the quick trip – I need milk, eggs, bread etc. on my way home for breakfast tomorrow. I think this is really neat and I wish you complete success.
jmjerlecki··on Third Apple Co-Founder, Ronald Wayne, Releases Autobiography
You can gather all you need to know about Wayne from this article: http://www.mercurynews.com/top-stories/ci_15214122

It always amazes me how life changing one decision can be. Imagine if he simply just "stuck around."

jmjerlecki··on If this then that
I personally like the large font. It caught my eye right away. I can understand the "legally blind" comments, but I think its unique.
jmjerlecki··on Show HN: Breezy comes to iOS
I would think about adding/changing your splash call to action on breezy.com to: "Now you can easily print AND FAX any document - from any device." At least add fax since thats an important value proposition. I can read in one sentence what the app does.
jmjerlecki··on Carol Bartz Out at Yahoo; CFO Interim CEO
This was a great diatribe against Carol. If you guys missed it from a couple of months back an angry shareholder confronts Bartz. He's dead on and with this now happening – absolutely right.

jmjerlecki··on Michael Arrington: Editorial Independence
I could see MG Siegler joining Thisismynext/The Verge.
jmjerlecki··on How Microsoft misunderstands the concept of user research (& how Apple doesn’t)
I think the OP brings up a good point here in that Mac OS X users and Windows users are two very different types of users who both use their computers in different ways. I imagine the Mac OS X user has a higher base level of skills than the average Windows user (just based on a shear numbers game Mac OS X 10% of market, Windows 90%).
jmjerlecki··on How we got featured in the App Store in less than a week
This speaks to nothing of how they got featured in the app store, but of a "vague email" they received from Apple. Don't get me wrong, its great for them and I think their app has a great design, but the title is misleading.

And the correct title should be: Forkly is featured in the App Store. It’s been a tasty first week!

jmjerlecki··on Sublets Just Got Easier
This is another area they should take from craigslist. I have tried many times to sublet my place and its a frustrating experience. Normally it turns into a facebook message/event and I just reach out to friends and hope they pass the word. Navigating through craigslist is frustrating and its hard to sift through all the noise. I think it would be really smart for them to get college campuses on board.
jmjerlecki··on Applying to YC as a Single Founder
I would be interested to know with the odds already stacked against single founders, what the likelihood of a non-technical single founder getting accepted is. I can't imagine it is high. Has there ever been one in YC?
jmjerlecki··on Why Advertising Works, Even When You Think It Doesn't
This particular quote isn't about advertising, but its something Steve Jobs said that reminded me of your post.

"When you're young, you look at television and think, There's a conspiracy. The networks have conspired to dumb us down. But when you get a little older, you realize that's not true. The networks are in business to give people exactly what they want. That's a far more depressing thought. Conspiracy is optimistic! You can shoot the bastards! We can have a revolution! But the networks are really in business to give people what they want. It's the truth."

jmjerlecki··on The economics of good looks
I see this as a skill that can be improved – just like anything else. Even if you don't consider yourself the most attractive person, having a strong self worth and putting an effort into your appearance can go a long ways. There are enough sites/books/friends out there to help you figure out what is a good look for you. I have constantly harped on friends that it is amazing how much dressing better can do for your career. Control the things you can control and what you wear is certainly something you can.
jmjerlecki··on Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple
The Edison of our generation. Sad to see Jobs go and hopefully his health has not gotten worse. The greatest turnaround of a company ever – Steve will leave a long legacy.
jmjerlecki··on Facebook Targets Instagram With Photo Filters
Someone needs to make an SDK for photo filters that allow apps to easily put photo filters in their app. It seems like you would be able to charge for this pretty easily as well.
jmjerlecki··on Dunnhumby launches a competition to predict grocery store purchases
to sell more products.

This could be added at the end of your sentence. You are right it may not be strictly advertising, however, if the goal is to find better ways to understand customer behavior it is so you can reach them...to better advertise to them.
