For well over a decade, I've felt we missed the boat with XML, XSD, and friends to make a generic, literal user interface for configuration such that you didn't need to rely on referencing documentation for valid options and such and usable interfaces could be presented instead of editing the text directly.
You aren't really a generalist if all you do is solve the problem without understanding anything, and this approach will usually bite you or your replacement down the line. Just consider solving "I need a message queue", "I need to add Elasticsearch", or gods forbid, "We need a frontend JS framework". I've been at companies where this has happened, and it's a dumpster fire weeks afterward.
OTOH, when I see these people after years, it's like no time has passed. OTOOH, in order to be friendly, I have to overcome my general annoyance with their lack of effort.
I was lucky, my physics department administrator told me the same thing when I was graduating.
The 2ND best piece of advice is to rollover your 401k when you move to a new company -> this cost me at least 500k because they effectively stagnate when your company isn't paying the maintenance cost (AIUI).
While cool is subjective, what new, mass-market products should they create? Which product market should they "re-invent"? I wish they'd buy Sonos and fix that shit show, but that's not a profitable market to enter.
Barring the price jump around the iPhone 7, their smartphones have stayed about the same price. [1]
Over half of all smartphone repairs are battery replacements, which implies people don't take care of their batteries or are keeping their phones long enough to wear the battery down normally. [2] Additionally, Apple ranks very well in repairability. [3] They also support their phone's software longer on older devices than the competition.

Either that, or I made the correct slash and my teacher interpreted it incorrectly!
I quit using 1password around 3 years ago
I haven't checked recently, but 1P may still the best option for WE vs I. 1password has a very similar model to lastpass, that had 16bln creds leaked.
Except that 1P has been very security conscious since day 1 (which is a freaking long time ago!). Maybe an insider could give us some dirt...One company adopted it, but my current company loves them a "standup" conversation.

In the future, they will sift through infinite amounts of worthless trash before finding something interesting.
That worthless trash, of course, will define us the most.
1. There's too much money directly opposing the goals of fighting climate change
2. Humans aren't big on alignment. FFS, we still don't have good UX/GUI for Linux and it's mainly been stagnant* and divided into Gnome and KDE for 20+ years.
* despite the impressive accomplishments, it's essentially true
I don't think I've aged faster than expected that cannot be explained by a lack of serious exercise.
Maybe not soon, but sooner than if you’d asked me 5 years ago.

A CLI for on-device speech transcription using Speech.framework on macOS 26
The MacStories article made it seem about 2x as fast as Whisper, but there's no network or shared servers involved, so it's effectively faster. It seems more likely that they found a script they like finally and the cast considers this to be a fun project for them to do.
They said that about Indiana Jones 4, and it kinda sucked. I think this will lead to many apps looking out of place which worsens the overall experience.
I think this was a business decision aiming for this result. It’s hard to reasonably conceive us moving from short sighted desire fulfillment to a more thoughtful and considerate attitude.
Any existing literature on this?
I’d prefer having Confucius-like exams that filter insufficiently educated candidates. Then the problem is having very capable crooks, but at least it would be obvious they know they are crooks.
