jkira··on NASA.gov is completely down
Having problems here too, and I live right by JSC. argh.
jkira··on Stripe has decided to nuke my entire business
What payment processor did you switch to?
jkira··on Habits of Highly Focused People
There’s a similar app called Focus Timer that does this without the trees. It only counts the time spent if you keep the phone face down.

I've always thought this was a great opportunity for VR. Pop on your favorite VR headset and see the sights without having to fight the crowds or spend a fortune getting there.

And being VR it could add the optional time-travel element so you could go back to see whatever historical event made the place famous... :)

jkira··on Old Smartphones Are a Problem for Apple and Samsung
I feel like this is the real reason that new phone sales are down. At $200, getting a new phone every two years is a no-brainer. At $1000, it’s more like my desktop computer... maybe I’ll buy one every 4-6 years, it requires budgeting for (or debt), etc.
jkira··on Analyzing the names of almost every Chinese restaurant in the U.S.
I had some fun with this idea by modding Dot-o-mator's name generator code to cook up random restaurant names... http://www.dotomator.com/namers/asian-restaurant.html :)
jkira··on Poll: Were you banned by AdSense? When in the cycle were you notified?
I'm one of the publishers whose account got nixxed (just a few months ago), and also within a few days of payment. It wasn't a big account; I only made maybe $100-200/month on it, but it was a nice bit of extra change. (I'd also had the account for a long time... since the early days of Adsense.)

I think the biggest frustration is having the account pulled with no explanation as to why. I assume it was click fraud, but it wasn't my doing - I generally just ignored the site. Was I clickbombed? Don't know. But it feels like Google punished me for something beyond my control.

One curious thing - I noticed in my analytics account that the site had gotten about 2x the usual traffic for the day before, so when I emailed my appeal I said maybe that had something to do with it. But a few days later (after the appeal was denied) I looked at analytics again and that traffic spike no longer existed. I wish I'd taken a screen shot the first time. (Or saved some server logs.) Didn't do either though, so oh well.

Still don't know what happened, but the experience definitely makes me bitter towards Google.

jkira··on My First Year in the App Store
I'd be interested to hear how you marketed the app. Just building an app seems to be only half (or less) of the battle these days, as far as App Store success goes.

I've got seven apps on the App Store, and combined they usually don't even bring in $200/mo. Discouraging.

jkira··on Must-have OS X apps for developers and designers
I know it's a list of desktop apps, but I just recently launched a quick reference (iPhone) app for iOS devs: http://www.idev101.com/app/

The color picker is my personal favorite. It'll convert between hex colors, RGB and HSB. Plus it shows the UIColor code for whatever color you're previewing.

jkira··on How Apple.com will serve retina images to new iPads
I sure would like to see a (simple!) web standard for this. Maybe with something like a 2x_src or HDsrc addition to the img tag.
jkira··on Ask HN: Best games to play with Family and friends this holiday season?
Munchkin :)
