I'm definitely one of shadow-cljs folks. We are trying to shorten the steps and paths people coming from JavaScript world to ClojureScript. Figwheel is a great tool, just not a perfect one to people with JavaScript background.

Hard question. Try this thread? https://clojureverse.org/t/is-there-a-good-resource-to-learn...
jiyinyiyong··on ClojureScript beginners' home page
Well, you may need this one https://www.reddit.com/r/Clojure/comments/8anepx/a_fake_home...

The main purpose of this page is trying to make new developers come to ClojureScript feel better by providing informations. People in Clojure community already knew it so I don't have to emphasis that my side is unofficial again. Plus I added a link at the corner.

Still thanks for putting down you impressions. But I thought about you option before when posting to Reddit.

jiyinyiyong··on ClojureScript beginners' home page
Agreed. David definitely knows that.
jiyinyiyong··on ClojureScript beginners' home page
I use shadow-cljs as a replacement of figwheel. shadow-cljs is quite powerful already, in development and bundling.

Make sure you also know the goodies in shadow-cljs https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16866085

I saw David adding commands that Windows users need in the docs. Personally I don't like treating Windows users like how I treated Linux/macOS users. You chose Windows, you chose the hard way, you have to figure it out on you own.

Post your question to http://clojureverse.org/ see if others can help.

jiyinyiyong··on ClojureScript beginners' home page
Still, please try shadow-cljs https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16866085 and join us on Slack.

Try shadow-cljs https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16866085 you want npm modules in ClojureScript and you get npm modules in your ClojureScript. If not, then I'm quite sure you can get help from thheller who created shadow-cljs.

I posted it on Reddit/Clojure before. People on ClojureVerse read Reddit a lot, I think.
jiyinyiyong··on ClojureScript beginners' home page
Does the first paragraph the page help? I was expecting this paragraph telling people what ClojureScript is.

> Clojure is a dialect of the Lisp programming language. Clojure is a general-purpose programming language with an emphasis on functional programming. ClojureScript is a compiler for Clojure that targets JavaScript.

jiyinyiyong··on ClojureScript beginners' home page
I put some random snippet gathered from the community about all the features ClojureScript supports. This page is not targeting JavaScript developers alone. It's visited by many Clojure and ClojureScript developers. And I want to exhibit more on what ClojureScript is capable and the beauty of the code.

I was trying to ask what are the best snippet we should display. But it turned out we didn't reach a conclusion, not even close. https://clojureverse.org/t/which-piece-of-code-do-you-think-...

BTW what's your background? What do you refer to by "something they are familiar with in JS"?

jiyinyiyong··on Incrementally Improving the DOM
Someone please explain that without ADT? And with graphs?
jiyinyiyong··on Ask HN: Resources to Learn Functional Programming?
Learn Haskell and use Clojure/Elixir/Scala/ReasonML/Elm...
jiyinyiyong··on Compiling ClojureScript Projects Without the JVM
Also, you can "compile ClojureScript without configuring JVM" with https://github.com/thheller/shadow-cljs
jiyinyiyong··on Ask HN: Learning Lisp, and I have some questions
I'm using ClojureScript. I would definitely argue that ClojureScript is the right language you should pick up. It's based on JavaScript ecosystem and all pieces from npm are available. It's the largest ecosystem currently. If you argue JVM is the largest one, then just choose Clojure.

For ClojureScript, what package manager? npm. Also you may need Clojars and Maven for some Clojure(Script) packages. But you can use shadow-cljs to abstract the Clojars part. What framework? search in Node.js community, you can use it in ClojureScript. Which database? check out Node.js community. How to run on VPS? it's Node.js question.

jiyinyiyong··on A Simple Approach to Building a Real-Time Collaborative Text Editor
For the keys, I created a similar library called https://github.com/Cirru/bisection-key to generate string keys.
jiyinyiyong··on Learning Clojure Made Easy
Clojure comes with a nice solution to persistent data structure, and it fully adopted the ideas behind it. Also it was designed for STM, it suits browser programming naturally. I think it's a nice balance between Functional Programming and practical usages.
jiyinyiyong··on As Bike-Sharing Brings Out Bad Manners, China Asks, What’s Wrong with Us?
Let's see what will happen outside China. Then compare them with data :P
jiyinyiyong··on Clojure will affect the way you think about programming
Agreed. Debugging Clojure(Script) is a pain. Although I still need to use ClojureScript.

I got a virtual DOM solution in ClojureScript too http://respo.site/ less features, more pure.
jiyinyiyong··on Ask HN: Have you created a programming language and why?
Yes, Cirru, in 2013, which is only a language front-end that compiles to JavaScript, Clojure, JSON or HTML.

* http://cirru.org * text.cirru.org (temporary solution) * https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13773813

I was trying to explore the expressiveness of graphical editing(at first using indentations). And it ends up with a nice tree editor that I can editor as DOM. With DOM, the layout of the code is actually the layout of AST controlling by algorithms that is responsive to screen size and AST structure.

jiyinyiyong··on Ask HN: Have you created a programming language and why?
Using at work even at major product in Teambition Shanghai https://github.com/teambition?language=coffeescript https://github.com/jianliaoim?language=coffeescript
jiyinyiyong··on Cirru – An editor for AST
Maybe Prettier? It's for JavaScript:

https://github.com/jlongster/prettier https://twitter.com/search?q=atom%20prettier&src=typd

jiyinyiyong··on Cirru – An editor for AST
That would be a huge feature. I got some ideas but have no time to finish it. It's can be something like something like Redux devtoos, because it's not just files...
jiyinyiyong··on Cirru – An editor for AST
And we can map Cirru AST to a language AST like I did in http://script.cirru.org/ ;)
jiyinyiyong··on Cirru – An editor for AST
I've used it to write web pages for nearly a year, so I believe we can. The problem is, like people may hate using indentations, they just hate. There's also a text version of Cirru http://text.cirru.org , but withouth benefits of structural editing.
jiyinyiyong··on Cirru – An editor for AST
No. But I have a friend who writes in C# and he showed me quite some tips on VS Code. I know it's very smart and IDE understands code in semantics, that can be a lot better than Stack Editor that only recognize the structure. I will keep an eye on that.
jiyinyiyong··on Cirru – An editor for AST
Awesome!

You may also add these projects:

https://github.com/shaunlebron/parinfer https://github.com/prettier/prettier

They are fixing the same problem Cirru Project was trying to solve, just in a more practical way.
