jimueller··on Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Reviewed
Scott Hanselman has a post on how to make the appearance closer to VS2010. Including a registry setting to change the menus to title case.

jimueller··on Hate Java? Maybe you should hate the industries stuck in the 50's.
This response is less on Java and more on the author's opinion of mainframes.

Large companies are risk adverse and generally for a good reason. That mainframe running COBOL has probably been reliably processing orders, crunching financials, and managing inventory for 30 years. No one is going to replace that on a whim because COBOL isn't cool. What are they going to use instead? It's certainly not Mongo DB and Lua scripts on AWS. SAP possibly, but you still end up with an expensive system with even more unpredictable cost and licensing terms.

jimueller··on Why Publishing on the Windows Phone is Like Walking Barefoot On Broken Glass
Actually, I'm one of those Windows Phone guys and I run CyanogenMod on my HP TouchPad, so I am familiar with the web versions of the Play store and Windows Marketplace.

I find I usually click on App URLs from sites like Engadget, that I trust.

I disagree that the long URL is a problem because I don't see people typing in mobile app store URLs. Either they search on the name or click a link. I do agree that it would be nice to have an app name that matters somewhere in the URL.

A choice other than Android and iOS?

Personally, I absolutely think the Metro UI is great and that is really what I enjoy about Windows Phone. Zune is probably second for me. I do have an Xbox and a Zune HD so I appreciate the convenience that offers for me. I understand you could have a similar experience with other services.

The article doesn't really match the headline as this really only confirms the change to billing.
jimueller··on Microsoft sends GitHub DMCA shutdown for Skype open source project
This seems legitimate and they are well within their right to do this as the copyright holder.

The labeling likely refers to Mandatory Access Control (MAC) where objects (data, cells) are assigned classification labels (e.g. Top Secret, Confidential) and subjects (users, processes) can only access objects that match the subject's assigned classification level.
