I can totally understand this, and it seems that a lot of the blog posts that make it to the top of HN are in some way self promoting the writer's work (be it music, IT consulting, their web-product, their music, etc).

I guess it is a hard balance to strike between self-promotion and good content. Perhaps if the writer could be more open about the promotion stuff in the beginning of the article it wouldn't feel insincere.

This seems like a good plan too. It has helped me to become a better musician just by playing music with good musicians. I would call it learning by osmosis.

Thanks for the reading suggestions. I had Asimov's sci-fi stuff in my reading list, and learning he's got comedy writing will definitely make me get acquainted with his work now even more quickly.

I do make people laugh sometimes, though I tend to be more literal and stick to meaning than absurdness in conversation.

I'm pretty sure there are. I hadn't considered that option. Have you tried it?

You're totally right. I actually didn't think of that, but just meant that maybe other forms of being could exist and manifest in dimensions we're not even looking at. Is that why my comment was downvoted?

I wouldn't be so sure we don't... Just because we don't see them with our 5 senses doesn't mean they are not here yet.

It makes sense to me, that a static species can not survive a changing environment. I believe we need to learn not to depend on monocultures and foster local production/consumption of food.

Most definitely dance lessons. I've taken both salsa and tango classes and from day one it's been a rewarding experience.
