jim90··on Ask HN: Who's building an AI-free product?
Sounds similar to https://www.focusmate.com/ - are there any big differences?
jim90··on Source Code for Area 51 (2005) by Midway Studios Austin Found at Garage Sale
Wonder how long until takedown notice (considering all the confidential files in that repo..!)
jim90··on Optimizing a ring buffer for throughput (2021)
There is a cool trick using virtual memory allowing fast and gapless ring buffers.

See this page (about half way down) https://ruby0x1.github.io/machinery_blog_archive/post/virtua...

jim90··on 10x C++ Editor
Yeah, I have been a VAX user for years... took me 15 minutes of testing out 10x before I purchased it.
jim90··on Vauld suspends all withdrawals, trading and deposits on the platform
Kind of ironic a link to this blog post is on their front page: https://www.vauld.com/blog/crypto-savings-account/
jim90··on Developer of aluminum-ion battery claims it charges faster than lithium-ion
I guess that would be the case if the battery was 100% lithium. But they are not (and cannot be) If I remember correctly the issue with increasing density in lithium batteries is their propensity to catch fire + explode (due to dendrites forming between lithium plates)

So a better battery tech might have a material that can store less electrons per m3 within the "active" material - but it can contain 30% more.

jim90··on Six years of professional Clojure development
I'd argue Clojure has all 3

Stability - one of Clojure's core tenets.

Low language complexity - not much more than EDN and everything is an expression, plus a few extras like destructuring. Certainly simpler than any other language I have used.

Extensibility - again, one of Clojure's strong points with macros.

As for "Type systems removing the value of a repl" again, I disagree. Repl driven development is as much about exploring the problem than it is writing code.

jim90··on Pitch: Collaborative presentation software for teams
> In my experience, 9 times out of 10 delegating sections of content with a final edit and sign off by a designated individual would work very well - no real time collaboration needed.

So that's actually how we do our internal weekly presentation. Each team has a section, and we all work on it. (Albeit in realtime)

> no one is really sure when a slide is finished

You can assign slides in pitch and update their status. So everyone knows who is responsible for something and what state it is in.
