jhasse··on Fairphone 6 and PostmarketOS working main camera
We don't need multiple OSs for that. One unlocked and FOSS OS is enough.
jhasse··on Framework Laptop 13 Pro
I do. Why not?
jhasse··on All phones sold in the EU to have replaceable batteries from 2027
Not water proof and definitely big for its capacity.
jhasse··on All phones sold in the EU to have replaceable batteries from 2027
Already exists in the EU: https://www.reddit.com/r/Smartphones/comments/1lad1a4/eus_ne...
jhasse··on All phones sold in the EU to have replaceable batteries from 2027
On Pixels too.
jhasse··on All phones sold in the EU to have replaceable batteries from 2027
Pixel 8 is nearly 3 years old. Battery is still perfectly fine.
jhasse··on SDL bans AI-written commits
You absolutely do need SDL, it's full of knowledge by humans from trial and error over years of using input devices in the real world.
jhasse··on Wayland set the Linux Desktop back by 10 years?
You mean OpenSL ES? Is anyone actually using that on desktop? On Android there's https://github.com/google/oboe.

While Mesa has OpenGL ES it wasn't always available (for example not all drivers are using Mesa).

jhasse··on Ninja is a small build system with a focus on speed
Good point. I think it would be fixable by using the Change Time instead of the Modify Time, because that changes when moving the copy over the original.
jhasse··on Ninja is a small build system with a focus on speed
Good news, I've been working an adding file content hashing to Ninja: https://github.com/ninja-build/ninja/pull/2735

That will fix the "switch branches back and forward" case :)

jhasse··on Wayland set the Linux Desktop back by 10 years?
Audio APIs on Android are completely different than on GNU/Linux.

3D was also different (OpenGL ES vs OpenGL mess), only now it's starting to become kinda the same with Vulkan.

jhasse··on Astral to Join OpenAI
Well if it's GPL without CLA and they accept outside contributions, they can't relicense / make it propriatary. Unlike with MIT.
jhasse··on US orders diplomats to fight data sovereignty initiatives
> Multiple citizens faced police raids, investigations, fines, or suspended sentences (jail risk if violated) for online posts calling Green politician Robert Habeck derogatory names like "idiot" or "moron," or sharing mocking memes [...]

The police raids were done because of the posted Nazi images, NOT because of the Habeck insults.

jhasse··on Open Letter to Google on Mandatory Developer Registration for App Distribution
Sure thing, as long as it doesn't require any permissions. I have installed multiple apks on my phone from unknown people. Note that Google's requirement is also for completely permissionless apps like games.
jhasse··on Open Letter to Google on Mandatory Developer Registration for App Distribution
Did your users really consider your app if it wasn't in the Play Store?
jhasse··on Open Letter to Google on Mandatory Developer Registration for App Distribution
Fairphone 6 with /e/OS for example.
jhasse··on Open Letter to Google on Mandatory Developer Registration for App Distribution
We can also do both, right? :)
jhasse··on Open Letter to Google on Mandatory Developer Registration for App Distribution
Even more reason to use these forks (and support them), right?
jhasse··on Open Letter to Google on Mandatory Developer Registration for App Distribution
Have yoz really checked for GrapheneOS? Which country?
jhasse··on Open Letter to Google on Mandatory Developer Registration for App Distribution
Only require Developer Registration for apps with READ_SMS then.
jhasse··on GrapheneOS – Break Free from Google and Apple
You can lock the bootloader again with GrapheneOS and many banking apps work.
jhasse··on Fix the iOS keyboard before the timer hits zero or I'm switching back to Android
> A similar spec Android costs about the same but usually has a flimsy plastic build and will become unsupported in 2-4 years

Maybe 10 years ago, but this couldn't be further from the truth today.

jhasse··on Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month
Shouldn't sales reduce inflation because they increase supply?
jhasse··on Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month
A wealth tax would be like 5% of the $100k, nothing to do with the gains.
jhasse··on Banned C++ features in Chromium
You're right, sorry.

Good point, so maybe the standard should just add some functions that take std::string_view. Definitely not add a whole new class like std::u8string ...

jhasse··on Microsoft forced me to switch to Linux
I'm using KDE with Wayland and 2 non-standard DPI monitors (one at 100% the other at 150% scale). No workarounds needed, nothing is blurry. I think your experience comes from GNOME which lacks behind in this regard.
jhasse··on Banned C++ features in Chromium
I never said always. Just add some new methods for which it has to be UTF-8. All current functions that need an encoding (e.g. text IO) also switch to UTF-8. Of course you could still save arbitrary binary data in it.
jhasse··on BirdyChat becomes first European chat app that is interoperable with WhatsApp
You are moving the goal post. But you're right: Signal's E2EE is miles better than telegram's. I was just trying to point out my experience in getting people to switch, most of the time they have different prioirities.
jhasse··on Banned C++ features in Chromium
Perfect is the enemy of good. Or do you think the current mess is better?
jhasse··on BirdyChat becomes first European chat app that is interoperable with WhatsApp
Russian connections is FUD and Telegram has E2EE encryption, but not by default.
