His speech, The Internet is My Religion, has been viewed over 500,000 times and called "the best video on the internet." http://internetismyreligion.com/
A web-based tool could be developed that lots of geeks could install on their servers that would allow a person to export their Facebook data into this new service using the Facebook Graph API. Facebook would try to shut this down, so it would have be to have installed and operating in so many different places that they couldn't keep up. And the cool part is that as Facebook tries to shut it down, it will just build more and more media attention, driving more people to leave.
Brand it as The Facebook Exodus, or something like that, set a launch date, and then build momentum from there.
edit: I was wrong, it's the full number that's a test number. 5424 0000 0000 0015
Like, it'd suck to have your more well-financed competition (who happens to be buying lots of ads on Facebook) get the ability to automatically link up your friends as soon as you visit their site.
A possible area for expansion (or maybe even a new app entirely). There's a whole world of classical music that is extremely competitive. Since you've got the iPad sitting on their piano, use the microphone to record yourself playing the song, and then it can be uploaded automatically and rated alongside others who've played the song.
Then you can have a leaderboard for each song, and even an overall leaderboard, like a global tennis rankings. They could challenge each other to a "duel" like a tennis match, or there could be a tournament. People can have their ranking, a profile, how old they are.
It would be hugely motivating to kids learning to play, and very disruptive/democratizing to the whole classical music world.
More and more cloud services are running on AWS deliberately so there is very low latency. I can host a SOLR index on one service, a MongoDB on another service, and still get reasonable performance.
They also want the dataset. The current reviews google is crawling are lousy compared to Yelp's.
This applies to everything, whether it's programming or gardening or sales. You can only be great at something if you love doing it. Keep trying different things until you find what you love doing. Once you find that, everything else will fall into place.
I've used it for years with good results. People will even email me thinking that I've exposed my email address to spammers encouraging me to use the blah [at] blah dot com style.
It's one-way because Facebook has to be worried about spam since anyone can send a message to anyone else. Twitter doesn't have this issue because you have to opt-in before you ever receive a message from someone.
