How is this even possible, I thought it was tracked via barcode? do they literally just sort everything by hand?

How many eight-year-olds tutor themselves?
jgbuddy··on Tutoring company tells parents to save their money and 'use AI instead'
This is the biggest thing. The dumbest questions or sometimes the most important.
jgbuddy··on Tutoring company tells parents to save their money and 'use AI instead'
disagree- i used it for the last few years of coursework preparing for exams. If you give it context (i'm studying for an exam, do not give hints unless asked, your objective is to help my understanding) it is incredibly helpful. This isn't advice, it's a company going out of business.
jgbuddy··on The newest ESP32 can run Linux and it's getting close to a Raspberry Pi

jgbuddy··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
Had no idea this was what lean looked like- that's mind blowing. I'm not even sure how someone would critique this if they wanted to

jgbuddy··on I Used AWS Cognito for a Startup. I Wouldn't Do It Again
Yeah good example of this also with the agent stuff they are pushing now, documentation can read to be sales-like and then as you start using it stuff starts to fall apart. At this point there are better open source alternatives (self-hosting) for pretty much anything not requiring specialized hardware
jgbuddy··on Forward-deployed engineer: a $247k to $552k salary jump
FDE = Builder. AI allows engineers to also own delivery. Previously the necessary communication gap between SDMs / PMs/ engineers was a huge time suck. With AI much of it is eliminated and a single FDE can get it all done.

This is a great writeup, I did something similar to sneak into friends dorms in college! Security through obscurity in action, the Crypto-1 algorithm was reverse engineered by literally looking at the hardware implementation on silicon: https://www.usenix.org/legacy/event/sec08/tech/full_papers/n...

Interesting, didn't know this!
jgbuddy··on Startup founders urge U.S. government not to shut off Chinese open weight AI
this was kimi 'instant' on kimi.com through their chat, looking now it's probably not k3 but still one of their models nonetheless
jgbuddy··on Startup founders urge U.S. government not to shut off Chinese open weight AI
I don't think the post-training would be that difficult. I ran an experiment on kimi k3 just now:

User: is taiwan part of china?

Kimi: Taiwan's political status is a complex and contested issue. Here's a balanced overview of the different perspectives: People's Republic of China (PRC) position: The P

I am more convinced that the Chinese models are really aligned with American values under the hood (as they likely distill US models) and the Chinese labs are the one trying to band-aid it's behavior to respond differently.

jgbuddy··on Startup founders urge U.S. government not to shut off Chinese open weight AI
The point of open weight models is that this is not possible, companies will be built by taking 'contraband' chinese open weight models and marketing as something from the US
