jetru··on To-Do Lists Are Not the Answer to Getting Things Done
Oh, wow, JITing TODO lists, this is why I love Hacker News
jetru··on India raises withdrawal limit as rupee anger mounts
Fair enough :) I meant on television. I guess Fox News. And maybe I'm in the online echo chamber. It's really hard to tell.
jetru··on India raises withdrawal limit as rupee anger mounts
Isn't this what's happening even in the US though? Look at the 2016 US election and how it was reported. Hardly impartial or rational. I mean where are the people cheering for Trump and their view points?
jetru··on Today's Brutal DDoS Attack Is the Beginning of a Bleak Future
Why are Gizmodo articles even getting upvoted here? They are always sensational and low information density.
jetru··on In Data We Trust: Max Levchin on Consumer Finance
Most people don't understand how compound interest works or that APR isn't actually simple interest, but compound interest calculated monthly or in some other way along with secret fees.
jetru··on Why I’m dumping Google Chrome
I own an iPhone and there's NO firefox on iOS. The benefits of having synced history across every browser I use is pretty useful(Ex: that restaurant I looked up online on my laptop this morning is going to show up pretty quickly on my phone because it's in my Chrome history)

Also, Chromecast is just amazing. It works with Netflix, Hulu, YouTube etc. Browse for videos on the website, because it's usually easier to click than to do weird controller motions => chromecast. Back to coding. DONE.

I have no hard numbers or evidence for performance, but that was just my feeling.

jetru··on Why I’m dumping Google Chrome
Did this a few months ago. This is what happened: * No syncing history with phone * No chromecast, literally had nothing to watch on TV * Even slower than Chrome. Thought Firefox was supposed to be fast, but nope.

Switched back in days.

jetru··on Open-sourcing Facebook Infer: Identify bugs before you ship
Have you tried Coverity Desktop analysis? It'll let you run Coverity on your code incrementally(for only code changes), assuming you already have a baseline.
jetru··on Swarm: Foursquare's ambitious plan to split its app in two
You make valid points. The branding is hard fo 4sq. I think 4sq discovery is the best out there. But they're having trouble selling it. However, their approach is totally broken. 4sq is good because everything is in one place, and now they're trying this gambit to get more attention. Let's see if it works...
jetru··on Heartbleed and Static Analysis
There are numerous reasons for this, as Regehr points out. None of these products are "sound". In other words, they aren't guaranteed to find everything. Most of the time, these are tradeoffs to reduce the number of false positives and to speed up the analysis, which come with the risk of false negatives, as is the case here.
jetru··on Man gets 14 years for ‘lasing’ helicopter
I disagree. Stupidity does absolve people to some extent. Intent to harm is extremely important.

Would you jail a 2 year old who stabbed someone with a knife because they the poor kid didn't know what they were doing? If someone crashed into someone in a road accident(read "accident", they just fucked up, it happens), how would they like 14 years in prison? Do soldiers get imprisoned when they willingly murder innocent civilians abroad if they get in the way?

I can't accept "if not they will find out how dangerous it is at their sentencing hearing". WTF? We can surely do better than that. This isn't North Korea.

I can't comment on the intents of this dude with the 14 year charge, though.

jetru··on Man gets 14 years for ‘lasing’ helicopter
ROFL. Build a million dollar plane. Confuse the shit out of it with a homemade laser. We need more glass research.

jetru··on Wages For Facebook
As some of my smarter and richer friends tell me about stuff like this - "No one gives a fuck".
jetru··on Why Free Speech Loses in India
Should that matter? Even if he finds something objectionable, it's not his business what others should think. Let others make up their own mind.
jetru··on Could This Baker Solve the Gluten Mystery?
I wasn't aware that it was possible to develop coeliac disease.
jetru··on The End of Facebook

You fucking changed my life.
jetru··on Three Myths on the World's Poor
"cleaner air"...so if one city has cleaner air, and we think(?) on average that the air is getting dirtier...who's getting/creating the super dirty air?
jetru··on My Amazon interview experience
I always thought getting no response in a few days means you're not hired. This is pretty industry standard. Also, in the interviews they will always assume that you get hired. What kind of interviewer would say "well, you're probably not gonna get hired, but...".
jetru··on Why functional programming?
Don't the compilers optimize this? I always believed functional programming to be popular among compiler experts because it's easier to write certain optimizations on a program because of it's many properties like state not changing etc. I don't know if this leads to realistically faster programs in real life.
jetru··on Ask HN: What music do you listen to when hacking?
Metal - Heavy/Progressive/Melodic/Symphonic Electronic - Progressive/House/Dubstep

I use Spotify

jetru··on Should we stop believing Malcolm Gladwell?
Is this the same story with Freakonomics?

I listen to their podcast and they seem pretty intelligent and don't really drawn crazy conclusions and always advice with a pinch of salt.

jetru··on Writing a New Dictionary? [video]
Other than mispronouncing repository, I think it was a pretty decent video which completely non tech can probably understand. Fox does a lot of cringeworthy reporting, but this wasn't one of them.
jetru··on Apple Unveils The iPhone 5S
No one mentioned that stealing an iPhone is much more difficult now. Thieves need to be careful not to touch the sensor!
jetru··on Groupon India sells Onion. Traffic crashes site.
Ugh. Please stop creating accounts just to make some vague, inaccurate and misinformed political point.
