jesterman··on FinCEN Assesses Record $1.3B Penalty Against TD Bank
Yeah I’m surprised as well. Just searched it up here after seeing the news somewhere else…
jesterman··on MTA Open Data Challenge
One of the options is literally a trash can! https://new.mta.info/document/85441

Or perhaps... a subway seat? https://new.mta.info/document/85661

jesterman··on Israelis and Palestinians blame each other for blast at Gaza hospital
Do you have some sources for these? Can't find anything online.
jesterman··on Israelis and Palestinians blame each other for blast at Gaza hospital
Why do you say there are good odds of that?
jesterman··on Microsoft documents leak new Bethesda games, including an Oblivion remaster
I can’t find a link to the actual leak itself. Appears the documents were accidentally attached to some public court documents.

https://discord.gg/ukXPkeU9 I'm assuming they are talking about this.
jesterman··on Companies hide negative news with unrelated press releases alongside SEC filings
Sounds like most of the value in that site is locked behind a two thousand dollar a year paywall… wow.

The few articles you can see are interesting though.

jesterman··on I was laid off in retaliation for anti-discrimination whistleblowing
As frob said, given the size of the company and the statistic they gave that 20% of the company was laid off. The company laid off at least 10 people, and as she said in the article, they were ALL minorities. This feels statistically unlikely to be random chance.
jesterman··on I was laid off in retaliation for anti-discrimination whistleblowing
It appears it was flagged again? I can't see it on the first 5 pages of the front pages of HN..
jesterman··on I was laid off in retaliation for anti-discrimination whistleblowing
This is an incredible piece.

The fact that the 20% of the company laid off were all minority groups is absolutely insane. LinkedIn says they have at minimum 50 employees, meaning at least 10 people were laid off.

Here is their LinkedIn post (linked on their website), https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7058845... " It is estimated that one in five transgender people will experience homelessness. Unfortunately, it's my turn. After six months of searching, I was not able to find a new role in time, and I have lost my home."

jesterman··on Google contractors vote to unionize in historic landslide election
I believe the section of the comment you are referencing was on people who weren't in a union. So they can't have a union do it's job and negotiate a higher base salary because they aren't in a union.
jesterman··on UBS agrees to buy Credit Suisse
9% is probably wrong, it was using an earlier figure of less than or about 1 billion, when the actual figure is more than 2 billion.
jesterman··on UBS agrees to buy Credit Suisse
Not sure why, but that link isn't loading for me. https://archive.is/0ETzn
jesterman··on UBS agrees to buy Credit Suisse
They will be paying just 9% of the market cap from a week ago.

EDIT: This is likely wrong, it's probably more like 20+%, I was using the $.27 a stock from an earlier price of about 1 billion. It appears that the actual price is more than 2 billion.

jesterman··on [dead]
Anyone willing to make a non-torrent link for this? I'm interested since I know they've done good work in the past.
jesterman··on CheatGPT
I see what you are going with here for it not being able to come up with original things. But I think that falls apart when you realize almost nothing humans do is original, everything is just building on other things.
jesterman··on Let Teenagers Sleep

jesterman··on Poll: Are startup founders a minority on HN?
Wait this place is related to startups? I know it's owned by Y Combinator and occasionally startups will place employment ads here. Is this meant to be the place where founders go?
jesterman··on Perplexity.ai prompt leakage
I suspect it's actually leaking the prompt. You can do the same thing with ChatGPT. It's not a particularly big deal honestly, the important part is hosting it and getting an people to use your service.
jesterman··on “I’m selling data of 400M Twitter users that was scraped via a vulnerability”
You are correct, I’ve edited and removed it. Thank you for pointing that out.
jesterman··on “I’m selling data of 400M Twitter users that was scraped via a vulnerability”
From a cursory look the 1000 sample names seems legit, if it’s fake they at least did research to get plausible area codes for phones and some plausible domain names for some celebrities email addresses.

jesterman··on I liberate the ending to Minecraft from Microsoft and give it to you
There definitely was, as they mentioned in the article. They choose not to though, opting instead to just sit on it for a long time I guess? Hopefully they talked to a lawyer before releasing this though, and hopefully Microsoft doesn’t go after this guy.
jesterman··on I liberate the ending to Minecraft from Microsoft and give it to you
This was a great article. It was absolutely not what I excepted going in. Hats off to Julian here, for doing what they think is “good” in the end.
