The fact that OpenAI can just scrape all of Youtube and Google isn't even taking legal action or attempting to stop it is wild to me. Is Google just asleep?
jensvdh··on Lastpass Security Incident
Then what should folks do? The alternative is having to "run your own encryption" by running your own Password manager on your own infra or re-using passwords
jensvdh··on Lastpass Security Incident
You store the answers in your password manager and treat them like passwords

Stacked diffs are awful compared to PR's. Not every commit should be clean
jensvdh··on Musk’s first email to Twitter staff ends remote work
If you paid me anywhere between 750-1.5M a year just go on in the office 40 hours a week I'd take that offer any day every day.

I did the same for less than half of that not even 2 years ago.

The problem with Musk companies is 1) It'll be MINIMUM 40 hours a week, no WLB 2) His companies aren't known for paying competitively

jensvdh··on 1Password delisting forum posts critical of their new Electron based 1Password 8
What a bad take. Multiple multi-billion dollar companies are built on the back of Electron.

Is it the most performant? No. Does your average user care? No.

Good luck explaining that to the supposedly unbanked crypto is trying to reach.
jensvdh··on “Crypto drainer” template facilitates theft
Because credit cards have consumer protection and laws and regulations. Crypto has none of that.
jensvdh··on “Crypto drainer” template facilitates theft
Problems that have been solved by regular banking decades ago. Jesus Christ the stupidity of crypto amazes me every day.

FlossBank has a pretty good approach for this use case. https://flossbank.com/
jensvdh··on It's probably time to stop recommending Clean Code (2020)
Aren't you creating new functions on each call to your parent function though? I imagine there must be a performance or memory penalty?
jensvdh··on AMD and GlobalFoundries Update: Orders Through 2024, Now Non-Exclusive
All the more reason for crypto environment regulations. We can't keep destroying the environment just because "miners" want to make a profit.
jensvdh··on Tesla has suspended vehicle purchases using Bitcoin
Great, let's bring Bitcoin down to ~$200 or whatever it's actual value is.
jensvdh··on California population declines for first time in more than a century
Paradise, California was hell on earth.
jensvdh··on How Basecamp Blew Up
Shopify and Airbnb were able to become multi-billion dollar companies mostly by running on Rails before it became unsustainable. I'd say Rails scaled pretty well.
jensvdh··on Verizon Sells AOL and Yahoo to Apollo for $5B
"Portfolio", holding DOGE is about the same as holding lottery tickets.
jensvdh··on List of apps people pay for but have low rating
More like selling a map of gold veins to a gold digger in this instance.
jensvdh··on Mighty Makes Google Chrome Faster
+1 I love their service, it's flawless and I often forget I'm using a stream. Then again, I'm on a wired Ethernet connection and a fiber line within 5ms of the datacenter so that probably helps.
jensvdh··on iOS 14.5 delivers Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch, new privacy controls, and more
I hate TouchID, never works when my fingers are sweaty or I'm cooking or anything like that.

FaceID is perfect.

jensvdh··on iOS 14.5 delivers Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch, new privacy controls, and more
Yes, although home is probably the place where one tends to wear a mask the least.
jensvdh··on iOS 14.5 delivers Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch, new privacy controls, and more
If you're detained or mugged you have other problems to worry about. They can also threaten you with a knife to get your pin code or put your fingerprints on the phone. If anything face ID requires your eyes to be open, they can knock you out and use your fingerprints more easily.
