jenscow··on Age verification for social media, the beginning of the end for a free internet?
I won't disagree with that. And "better parenting" is a solution. However, what about the children who don't have the advantage of "better parenting"?

Rightfully blaming bad parents is reactionary

jenscow··on Ask HN: What is interviewing like now with everyone using AI?
> took me ~15 minutes to get working

You didn't blindly use it, you still used your expertise. You gave it a high quality prompt and you understood the reply enough to adjust it.

In other words, you used it correctly. It complimented your expertise, rather than replace it.

jenscow··on I made $100K from a dick joke

The only thing Windows is better at (almost equal) is 7-zip decompression. I wonder why.
jenscow··on Why bother with argv[0]?
In such a world, shells would probably have something like a $SCRIPT_NAME to work around this.
jenscow··on Show HN: Haystack – an IDE for exploring and editing code on an infinite canvas
This is why I set a limit on the tabs in my IDE.
jenscow··on Timeshift: System Restore Tool for Linux
I use BackInTime, which works in a similar way but is much more configurable. I have hourly backups of all my code for the past day, then a single daily for the past week, etc.

Saved my ass a few times.

jenscow··on Microsoft: Linux Is the Top Operating System on Azure Today
The Windows ecosystem supports those devices (which are irrelevant to servers anyway). ie, it's the manufacturers that support Windows, rather than the OS supporting them.

jenscow··on Microsoft's global sprawl under fire from regulators after Windows outage
Many in this industry have been saying this for a while now.

"I think that I am familiar with the fact that you are going to ignore this particular problem until it swims up and bites you on the ass."

jenscow··on Ask HN: Can anyone from Crowdstrike explain the back story?
> They have a staging system which is supposed to give clients control over this but they pissed over everyone's staging and rules and just pushed this to production.
jenscow··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
While I agree with the requirement, but it sounds like a vault would need to have an unlocked door with a sign.
jenscow··on Ask HN: Freelancer's Dilemma – Client Won't Pay Despite Clear Agreement
I've had this too.

Be pragmatic and move on (mentally), and don't make it personal nor seek revenge. I'm sure it would be tempting to make them suffer like you have, but if doing so will make you worse off then you already are (be it financially or emotionally), what's the point.

Accept the base line outcome is zero, don't make it less than that and anything extra is a bonus.

jenscow··on If AI chatbots are the future, I hate it
I guess they will work out on the average wait time over a period, or the company's can just drop the calls to keep it down.
jenscow··on Writing GUI apps for Windows is painful
incremental compiles. Changing a single line should not take over a minute to compile in 2024.

And it's not even a "truly large" project, your patronising tone is wasted.
