jeffrese··on Ask HN: Has Gmail spam blocking taken a sudden nosedive?
Yes. Lots of cigarette spam lately.
jeffrese··on Ask HN: How can I become more eloquent?
If you think about it you can probably come up with 10 points that you can use over and over again in different situations. Write them down, then do a second draft and then a third. Memorize them and then start using them during conversation. Your presentation and flow will improve when you are not searching for one word out of a possible four different languages.
jeffrese··on Ask HN: CTO of a $10M Company or SDM of a $150B Company?
Do it, take the startup job. No downside. If it all goes tits up you will now have lead technology operations on your resume so your next corporate job will be a jump up.
jeffrese··on Ask HN: VC firm reached out to me, what are they looking for in an initial call?
Thank you! It was an associate, quick call, stuck to strong growth narrative and kept it casual. Seemed to go well but who knows.
jeffrese··on Ask HN: VC firm reached out to me, what are they looking for in an initial call?
Awesome, thank you!
jeffrese··on Ask HN: How to avoid being psychologically manipulated by the media?
boycott it, don't pay attention to it. Don't watch it, read it, delete facebook and even twitter. There is zero need for it. The important stuff will bubble up and be more prominent. I haven't looked at a news site in over two years and I've never been more informed about real issues.
jeffrese··on Ask HN: Successful tech startup but find every day emotionally challenging
Meditate each morning and afternoon. That will help an immeasurable amount. Headspace is a good app for that but I prefer TM. Also, take a hit or two of weed then netflix and chill. The weed won't give you a hangover like booze does and you'll be super productive with energy the next morning after you meditate.
jeffrese··on Ask HN: How should I structure a simple co-founder agreement?
Thank you!
jeffrese··on Ask HN: How should I structure a simple co-founder agreement?
Thanks, I will.
jeffrese··on Ask HN: Carta (eShares) for equity compensation, any experience with them?
Carta charges $2k for up to ten people for one year. That includes the 409a valuation plus a bunch of other reporting and management features. Does that sound like a good price to you?

https://www.carta.com/

jeffrese··on Ask HN: Equity and cofounder title for first hire?
I would not be where I am today if he wasn't a part of this. What would I do if I lost him? Answer is I don't know. The company would not implode and we would keep moving forward but at what cost?????

Talking this out helps. Thanks for the input.

jeffrese··on Ask HN: Equity and cofounder title for first hire?
Thanks! I was thinking 5% as well.
jeffrese··on Ask HN: Equity and cofounder title for first hire?
What if I said he's asking for 30% equity?
jeffrese··on How to thrive as a solo non-technical founder
Congratulations Terry and thanks for sharing your story. What kind of ownership split did you do with your post product, post revenue, post funding co-founder?
jeffrese··on Suicide
Ben Huh, Cheezburger Network founder, wrote a great post on how he contemplated suicide after the failure of a startup: http://www.benhuh.com/2011/11/29/when-death-feels-like-a-goo... "It wasn’t until after I seriously contemplated suicide that I was ready to handle a $30 million check. "

jeffrese··on How I Quickly Test and Validate Startup Ideas
LaunchRock is a great landing page tool for testing a startup idea. I think they are a Y Combinator company too.
jeffrese··on Stanford Hopes Its $2.5 B. StanfordNYC Proposal Can Beat Out NYU
Please let Stanford win. NYC needs Stanford. Bloomberg is a tech entrepreneur, perhaps he can sway the RFP voting.
jeffrese··on Nest - The Learning Thermostat
I love it, sign me up.
jeffrese··on Galaxy Nexus: 1080p Video
I've got a Galaxy S2 and it looks just as pretty. Only problem is the battery life is just awful. I would recommend iPhone
jeffrese··on Amit Gupta needs you
You have to be South Asian to be a match. Lots of South Asians in South Asia, but not a-lot in the NYC tech community. This is a numbers game.
jeffrese··on Amit Gupta needs you
He's big in the entrepreneur community, started Jelly co-working, is a great mentor to many young entrepreneurs, but more than that he's a really great guy. If your brown and down, donate your marrow.
jeffrese··on The State of Venture Capital and the Internet
I hope PG reads this article, my Y Combinator application is in this field.
jeffrese··on Ask HN: Anybody outsource their startup?
oDesk works well for this and they have great PM tools baked in. Stay away from firms, only hire freelancers, be quick to fire and quick to giving raises to good developers.
jeffrese··on Ask HN: Is there a NYC AI startup job list anywhere?
Join NextNY, sign up for the email list, start going to events and start networking. http://nextny.org/
jeffrese··on Ask YC: Startup crisis. Out of money and tech co-founder has bailed.
Use Odesk there are some talented developers there. Odesk has great management software for you as well. It's a numbers game, hire 10 ppl, put them all on the same simple task, by morning you will most likely fore 8 of them. Keep doing that until you have a large and reliable stable of developers. Oh and stay away from Indian developers. Sorry if I offend but my real world experience has shown me time and again Indian developers aren't good. Feel free to report me to the anti defamation league and the thought police.
jeffrese··on Ask YC: Best ways to become socially adept?
Want to change your lifestyle? You need to force it, it is difficult and you need to get out of your comfort zone and put yourself in awkward situations. Here is a great book with a 30 day lifestyle challenge. Each day is a new challenge. By day 30 you will be comfortable walking up to and engaging any stranger in interesting conversations. Day one challenge for instance is start five conversations with 5 strangers. Each day there is a new challenge and they get progressively harder and funny enough easier as you become more comfortable outside your comfort zone. http://www.amazon.com/Rules-Game-Neil-Strauss/dp/0061540455/...
jeffrese··on Ask YC: Crazy Egg vs Clickdensity
Is one superior to the other, should I spring for both, is Google analytics superior? If you used one or both in the past and have an opinion I would love to hear it.
jeffrese··on Ask YC: Dealing with post startup depression
drink heavily for three weeks while watching lots of TV. At end of third week go to the gym, get on a treadmill and think about what your next business will be. Come up with idea, get off treadmill and run with it.
