You could get used to a lot of stuff. One of my friends is used to using a fake leg.

The quality is already insane if you think about how thin it has to be, with "glass" in front of it and the alu behind it. Pinch it with your fingers, imagine a CAMERA being thinner than that...

I feel like the only one that's still amazed by tech sometimes. I still look at planes and feel amazed we puny humans did that. It's never good enough.

jeffhuys··on Blurry rendering of games on Mac
I get what you mean, but to me it just looks like before there was a notch, like there's no screen there. I can't really tell where the bezel ends and the screen starts if it's all black. Just looks like a large bezel.

Guess it's just a matter of taste. I'm never bothered by it.

jeffhuys··on Fingerjigger
Ah, I guess it makes sense you're not crazy then, haha. For me it's probably 80/20 (80 being programming on a macbook). I've subscribed to your channel by the way, 7.8k videos is insane; you started when you were ~58! I was 13 then... I'd wager Humphrey isn't there anymore, but they'll always be there to look at!
jeffhuys··on Blurry rendering of games on Mac
Menu bar is on top on mac. I see it as the top bevel becoming a screen, not taking away from any screen real estate, actually FREEING up space for apps. I never see the notch anyway because my wallpaper is black.

Best one of all LLMs I’ve tried so far. And not only in sycophancy.
jeffhuys··on Fingerjigger
Haha, well, color me impressed. Because I’m curious: do you type a lot on your phone, or mostly on a computer or similar?

And sorry to say but my dad (71) also does this, so it indeed might be a geezer thing… you’re a cool one though, you’re on hacker news! ;-)

(All this typed with a big smile on my face, you made my day)

jeffhuys··on Fingerjigger
You use 1 finger, always, on iOS? Or am I misunderstanding? If not, how would you not go crazy? Or are you using swipe-style typing?
jeffhuys··on Claude says “You're absolutely right!” about everything
Grok. These were all in continuation, not first reply.

A lot of them use onshape. In-browser but not open source. Free for public use though. Not sure what you’ve seen.
jeffhuys··on Claude Sonnet 4 now supports 1M tokens of context
People hate it because it had less filters and media caught on, so they told people to hate it.

It’s actually the best one right now, or close to. For my uses (code and queries) nothing comes even close.

Once people look past the “but ELoN mUssKkkk!!!”, they’ll be surprised.

jeffhuys··on Claude Sonnet 4 now supports 1M tokens of context
There’s work being done in this field - I saw a demo using the same method as stable diffusion does, but then for text. Was extremely fast (3 pages of text in like a second). It’ll come.
jeffhuys··on Windows XP Professional
Works great! Tested on Orion. Sad to see I couldn't delete system32.

Oh the future is going to be BRIGHT for hackers!
jeffhuys··on uBlock Origin Lite now available for Safari
I love, LOVE Orion. Use it both on iPhone and Mac. However, lately, it's becoming more and more buggy and sluggish. Writing this in Orion though - just have to quit it a few times a day to battle the RAM consumption and sluggishness. So yeah, like the other person says: DEFINETELY still beta. And yes, I report the issues.
jeffhuys··on Show HN: AgentGuard – Auto-kill AI agents before they burn through your budget
If you have any tips, feel free to enlighten me. Even though I'm "only" in my 30s I feel the future is uncertain - the original author of this post made one other post that was also clearly vibe-coded, but not many comments seem to point it out. It'll only get worse from here, depending how you look at it of course; hackers will have a WAY easier time as time goes on.
jeffhuys··on How was the Universal Pictures 1936 opening logo created?
Twitter is just another blogging platform, but with more than half a billion users. So, why not?
jeffhuys··on Show HN: AgentGuard – Auto-kill AI agents before they burn through your budget
Well the author has many, many repositories like this.

It seems like he's still stuck in the "If I just say to my AI that I want a production-ready package that people will pay me $99/month for, I'll get it eventually, right?" phase of discovering LLMs.

The end-result is many commits saying "fixed all issues, enterprise-ready now as requested!" adding 500 lines of code causing more issues.

The funniest part, to me, is that this only damages his image, instead of solidifying it. We've had so many applicants at my company recently where we go to their github, and they have 10 repositories all obviously vibe-coded together, acting like they made some amazing stuff. Instant deletion of application, no coming back from that - this person would NOT get a job here.

jeffhuys··on Show HN: AgentGuard – Auto-kill AI agents before they burn through your budget
Well, that, and stuff like the commit descriptions.

jeffhuys··on Show HN: AgentGuard – Auto-kill AI agents before they burn through your budget
Honestly feels very vibe-coded [1] [2] and would not really trust my money with something like this. I had to read the code to understand what it actually protects me from, as the README.md (other than telling me it's production-ready, professional, and protects me from so much!) tells me "Supports all major providers: OpenAI, Anthropic, auto-detected from URLs". OpenAI and Anthropic are "all" major providers [3]?

jeffhuys··on The Math Is Haunted
Look at Arguman, now defunct, but you can probably find some good videos/screenshots.

Basically crowd-sourced statements, rebuttals, agreements, etc, in a nice interface.

We need that nowadays.

jeffhuys··on Ollama's new app
Honestly to be expected with a 4b model. 12b/14b+ is the minimum in my experience to get decent results, unless you have a specific use-case for the 4b ones and fine-tune it to your use.
jeffhuys··on The EU could be scanning your chats by October 2025
I mean, you can say that, but the unelected will decide for us.

Oh when it was just for "easier international trade". What a good one.

jeffhuys··on I want an iPhone Mini-sized Android phone (2022)
Thing about iphones is yea, they’re expensive, but if well-cared for can last you longer. I’m on a 6-year upgrade cycle and could stretch that more if I wanted to. Will go from my 12 pro to the 18 or 19 pro.
jeffhuys··on Recovering from AI addiction
If you see this as purely LLM-related, read again:

> AI addiction is the compulsive and harmful use of AI-powered applications. It can involve AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT, video or image generation apps, algorithm-driven social media platforms, AI-powered gaming, AI companions, AI roleplaying, AI-generated pornography, or any other

The youth is not ready. Infinite pictures of whatever you want to see. Downloaded models have _no_ restrictions.

Make of that what you want.

jeffhuys··on How to prove false statements: Practical attacks on Fiat-Shamir
Again, you mean "if Ethereum was". You're conflating things.
jeffhuys··on Show HN: Cactus – Ollama for Smartphones
The best way to go about this is realizing that there are more people reading this thread that make their own assumptions.

Not staying professional and just answering the questions, and just doing "aight im outta here" when it gets a little bit harder is not a good look; it seems like you can't defend your own project.

Just FYI.

jeffhuys··on How to Prove False Statements: Practical Attacks on Fiat-Shamir
That piece of information about Ethereum's cryptographers does not mean "all of crypto is a fraud".
