jefe78··on I'm a former Miso engineer and the founders screwed me out of 10k
It was stated in an email(contractual agreement) that referrals would earn you 10k. That agreement was met during his employment. The company should have given it to him upon completion. They failed to do so. He doesn't forfeit whats his upon departure.

It would be like you being offered an additional 10k to do something for a client/boss. You did it, shortly thereafter left but hadn't yet received your compensation. You'd be within your rights to go after them via the labour board/a lawyer. If you don't see that, I don't want to know how you treat those around you.

jefe78··on I'm a former Miso engineer and the founders screwed me out of 10k
If your company is too stupid to have backups in place that's your own damn fault. The fact that he blew the data away is irrelevant. It can happen to anyone.

And you think screwing someone out of money they're contractually owed is ok? I'm sure you'll do well..

jefe78··on I'm a former Miso engineer and the founders screwed me out of 10k
You're an inspiring type. Certainly hope I never need to interview with the likes of you. The guy is owed money. he should be paid, regardless of your love affair with Miso.
jefe78··on DVDs and Blu-rays will now carry two unskippable government warnings
I'm sure the consumer will love this. I wonder when(if) these will be added to non-physical media (i.e., Netflix).
jefe78··on PHP-CGI Vulnerability Exploited in the Wild
That's strange. I forgot about the Sony site. The best one was the Exchange program. Was cool to see a connectdb.php file with 3 credentials to 3 different servers...
jefe78··on PHP-CGI Vulnerability Exploited in the Wild
Did anyone find any interesting sites with this vulnerability? I found a Chinese exchange program and an 'ask Army' *.mil site that has since been patched.

Wake Up Call is something I've been working on for a little while. This is my attempt at seeing if there is any demand. The premise is simple; waking up sucks. Making sure you get out of bed sucks even more.

I want to make sure you get out of bed. I plan on accomplishing that by annoying you with various challenge/response mechanisms. You won't know what to expect until the lovely voice on the other end demands you comply!

jefe78··on Reasons to Learn Clojure
Thanks for the awesome answer. My girlfriend and my weekend are not pleased with you but I'm pretty excited to explore this. Thanks again!
jefe78··on Reasons to Learn Clojure
Interesting article. I've been toying with the idea of learning a LISP lately and you sold me. What is a good route to explore this? I.e., what should I install(I run Linux/OSX and Windows) and what are some real world applications? Also, do you recommend any books or online resources?
jefe78··on Show HN: Server installs simplified (and built from source)
Hardly. People here routinely call themselves "Dev ops". They choose to go down that road and tout themselves as "One man shops".
jefe78··on Show HN: Server installs simplified (and built from source)
Maybe you shouldn't call yourself "dev ops" if you don't want to focus on this type of thing?
jefe78··on The World's Longest Invoice
What purpose does this server other than to demonstrate these individuals lacked the savvy to secure their compensation?
jefe78··on Sacrifice volunteers to improve your Linux Distro. (In a game.)
I don't understand why you feel the need to post this link everyday. How about you try advertising elsewhere and see if that helps?
jefe78··on Insecure websites to be named and shamed
I can see this going badly. I understand they probably have altruistic motives but I can see some website owner claiming their vulnerable site was 'safe' through obscurity but was attacked due to this public shaming. Should be interesting.

Can anyone correct me/inform us as to whether the site owner will have a leg to stand on in court?

jefe78··on Show HN: MicroFly - An Open Hardware, Open Software , 4-inch flying machine
I was really excited about this until I realized you're linking straight to your kickstarter page. You lost me.
jefe78··on 3 million bank accounts hacked in Iran
I can't help but wonder, what possesses the CEO of a company to not act on this type of information, in SOME capacity? Is it apathy, perhaps they're so busy that they never see it?
jefe78··on 7 lessons I learned while being banned in Google for 12 hours
WTF did I just read?
jefe78··on Can you build a startup on .Net?
Jesus man, have some dignity. You're whoring that name around here like nobodies business.

Edit: Double-Jesus on a stick! I counted ~6 of YOUR references in this one thread. Pretty unimpressive.

jefe78··on Show HN: Trio, 50% better than Pair
The demo link left something to be desired :(
jefe78··on Show HN: MadeiraCloud lets you draw AWS architecture and clone apps in minutes
Agreed. What type of app requires you to give up your credentials to something as sensitive as your infrastructures credentials?! No fucking way. Fix this asap.

Edit: Any admin that gives these up should probably not be in the role they are. I'd fire someone over something like this. The OP commented further down that "64%" gave up their credentials. I think their bosses need to know about that or their clients should be warned.

I don't care who this guys is and how much assurance he can offer; there is no reason for this.

jefe78··on Why my company doesn't send automated email from a 'noreply' address
This cost Netflix my business today.

-I have ZERO desire to know what my friends are watching.

-I unsubscribed from receiving promotional emails.

-I received said promotional email.

-I clicked the link to unsubscribe.

-Said link was broken.

-I sent a response to the address that emailed me.

-They sent back an automated response.

-I cancelled my service.

While I enjoy Netflix, they're shoddy email policy was more than I felt like dealing with today. Another company that is on the verge of losing my business is Porter airlines up here in Canada.

All of this to say; thank you for forwarding responses to your support email.

EDIT: In addition to the fact that they manage to NOT send me emails regarding billing me. Is that too much to ask? Yet they pester me if for some reason the transaction doesn't go through. So long Netflix!

jefe78··on How I went from idea to profit in under 24 hours
I really like your idea. However, you didn't provide us with a link to signup if we're interested.

On that note, how does the app release work. Do you leave the client up to their own devices to submit the app? Do you provide them with all the assets upon completion(tar of code, etc)?

jefe78··on Gmail Tap
While I'm tired of these jokes, this is the first time I've actually wanted the product.
jefe78··on [dead]
Ouch...my brain hurt after reading parts of that. I believe it was generated code, but if not...that poor dev!
jefe78··on Show HN: API Jobs, a new job site focused on APIs
Cool, but can you make an API request to see the jobs?!

Clarification: I see that your API is coming soon. Just kidding around. I really liked the design though.

jefe78··on Ask HN: To Ask for CC on Signup or Not?
Please understand this is just my opinion. I don't speak for anyone else nor am I necessarily an accurate representation of anything. This is my anecdote:

I have NEVER signed up for a new service that required a credit card up front. I HAVE signed up for free accounts, saw the value and then converted.

This is a little different for certain brands, i.e., AWS and such. However, for an unknown brand to want my CC info? Not a chance.

Psychology
jefe78··on Gridlocked Out
I have to wonder; what makes a lot of these people qualified to do this sort of thing? I'm not saying it isn't a noble goal, but do they have any experience in behavioral pharmacology or classroom education? And yet they're dictating what should and shouldn't be scored? I cringed a little when I read they would be ranking various criteria, such as 'teamwork'.

And after all the articles on introverts on here, lately.

jefe78··on Driving Girls Out of Computer Science
Does anyone else understand what the hell was trying to be said in that article?! Incoherent as all hell..
jefe78··on ESPN Developer Center
Ya, that was pretty unimpressive too. Thanks ESPN for helping me relive my highschool name calling! /sarcasm
