jeegsy··on A Plane Ran Out of Fuel over the Atlantic. The Pilots Saved 306 Lives
As someone who works in Quality in the manufacturing space, the way these sort of decisions get made feels frighteningly familiar.
jeegsy··on Why Are There No Empires in Age of Empires? (2019)
“stop overthinking it, it is just a game.”

Indeed, you should write about what you wish especially considering the authors usual material. Even so, I didn't have the relationship between distinctively modern ideas of diversity (in a positive light) and traditional empires within a critique of "Age of Empires", a real time strategy game! on my bingo card. These are the sorts of ideas for better or worse that only an "intellectual" will come up with.

jeegsy··on New York’s budget bill would require “blocking technology” on all 3D printers
As you might expect on a tech website, folks in the comments have immediately jumped to workarounds for this. Before we do that, spare a thought for whether our government should be allowed to conceive of something like this in the first place.

jeegsy··on Americans React to UnitedHealthcare CEO's Murder: 'My Empathy Is Out of Network'
Nearly fell out of my chair with that one. Who said that? Seems familiar

> He points up at the perfect blue sky. "I'll see him again."

By the time I got to this line, I could not stop the tears.

jeegsy··on An oral history of "We Built This City," the worst song of all time (2016)
Oh puhleassee.....culture gatekeepers really need to lighten up a little. The worst song ever? Heck no. I love that song. Corporation games indeed!

I'm so glad these videos are still on there. As much as I consume youtube now, this brings back memories of when it was literally "YOUtube". Truly a glorious time!
jeegsy··on Understanding how bureaucracy develops
> Once that competency band is established, we can work to bring everyone into the band (by providing training and support) rather than trying to stretch the band downwards to suit everyone regardless of experience.

Great point. This would also apply in the context of DEI hiring initiatives.

jeegsy··on 6th-generation Waymo Driver
I'm not sure that reason is all that common. People like cars primarily for the flexibility I think.
jeegsy··on Medieval
Lets just take a moment to give thanks for the technology that has made "dungeon synth" possible.
jeegsy··on The Typeset of Wall·E (2018)

jeegsy··on Supreme Court rules ex-presidents have immunity for official acts
I think we need to remember that Presidents have gotten away with a whole lot in the past. Many a blind eye before Trump came on the scene. Now that the seal has been broken, we were on course for a whole lot of these post presidency prosecutions in the future. I think the SC was sensitive to that and wanted to nip it in the bud.
jeegsy··on Supreme Court overturns 40-year-old "Chevron deference" doctrine
I was going to comment this as well. Somehow we as a country managed to get by before 1984.
jeegsy··on What Is a Personal User Manual? (2022)
> If you're employed in a company or organization, you have to conform your personality to their manual, modulo reasonable wiggle room. That's it.

Quite right! We have enough abstractions on reality already.

jeegsy··on Spotify: Droppin' Some Fake Beats
Right, if we reductively summarize any process then nothing really matters. Its sort of like saying "hendrix operated a string instrument"
jeegsy··on Stark Industries Solutions: An Iron Hammer in the Cloud
Tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth
jeegsy··on Agenda: a personal information manager (1990) [pdf]
Regardless of the social changes in recent decades, I think it is silly to decide to reserve the root "trans-" for a certain group when it has historically had multiple meanings. Correct me if you had some other reason.

jeegsy··on Exit Strategy: The Case for Single-Stair Egress
> the richer residents not have to have an old tower block spoil their view.

I've seen this particular point made a couple of times. Can someone explain how the cladding used affects the view from other buildings?

jeegsy··on The Star Destroyer and Imperial Military Doctrine
To each his own but part of why the article is great is that it dunks on the Disney canon for the good of the force. Where once these and other similar franchises inspired thoughtful and detailed discussions within fandom, what we have now seems like thoughtless corporatized fare and we should not waste time attaching more meaning to it than it deserves

jeegsy··on No one will read your book (2021)
> advantage if it discourages you from using flowery prose.

I've always said that "flowery prose" is something that needs to make a comeback. I really miss that style of writing. What fun to read! The 'modern' impulse for 'efficient' writing is at least a contributing factor to the decline in reading I daresay.

jeegsy··on Desert city of Dubai floods as UAE hit by heaviest rainfall in 75 years
I was not making a point about "chemtrails" in particular only as a relevant example because of the article. But, speaking about chemtrails, the rebuttal was not that it was only being done in some countries. Rather, it was that it was not being done at all. In any case, we can say all theories have 0 credibility until the evidence confirming them appears.
jeegsy··on The Intercept Is Running Out of Cash
> "Greenwald quit in fury to make quixotic allies on the right"

This type of (mis)characterization is really tiresome and you see it all the time in new media.
